The Jezabels – Nobody Nowhere Lyrics

While bruhnio's interpretation is more in keeping with the general theme of most of The Jezabels' lyrics, and more likely to be the intended, my initial thoughts were quite different.
This could be seen as a commentary on the destruction us humans are causing to the earth; the lack of forethought, an individual's feelings of responsibility, and yet all the while feeling hopeless and powerless to act due to being just an individual. Horror music. |

The Butterfly Effect – A.D Lyrics

Sound scape, for sure. Such a composition; it’s like a journey
It appears to me to be about the conflict in one’s mine about religious faith, and moreover the increased conflict in the mind of a dying person. A.D. (anno domini) — the year of Christ, points to religion, but A.D. is sometimes (incorrectly) taken to mean “after death”, perhaps relating this song’s meaning to be about after one’s own death. If I have faith will I be saved when judgement is befallen?

The Go-Betweens – Streets Of Your Town Lyrics

The quintessential 80s Brisbane song. Everytime I hear this it I am flooded with memories of growing up in Brisbane in the 80s. Very few songs stir so many emotions within me. |

Something For Kate – Stunt Show Lyrics

Hmmmm, a tough one. Perhaps:
It could be anyone; a friend, a lover, yourself most probably. Thinking too much about your own life. Remembering, watching, predicting and most probably feeling bad about it. Regrets. After a while you become too predictable to yourself and beat yourself up about it.
How will you get yourself out of this one? Move on; make something up; copy someone else.

The Temper Trap – Science of Fear Lyrics

It's not hard to work it out really. Science of fear - the way the world has been since the turn of the century. The video gives it away with the shot of the highrise windows shattering. Clever, clever stuff Temper Trap. Love your work. |

Editors – Camera Lyrics

Right on Jonzard. This song has the flavour of a relationship break up, but more properly addresses depression, and hiding it in "the back room". We smile because it's easier. Studies have shown that the majority of suicides are unexpected. "Look at us through the lens of a camera, Does it remove all of our pain" - the ultimate suicide note, and that, Tom Smith if you are listening, is a compliment. So powerful. |

Editors – Let Your Good Heart Lead You Home Lyrics
| 15 years ago

So few words with so much emotion. The underlying emotion- depression.
The first verse is pure genius:
"You let the dark in, somehow" - things/life getting you down.
"Sharks swim around your, drowning soul" - as garygwapo says, a possible drug reference, but also possibly the exponential effect of depression. When you're down, little things seem much worse.
The final verses:
"Once you've gone, you can't come back" - suicide is irreversible. |
