M.I.A. – Bucky Done Gun Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it may be about rape in war. Just throwing this idea onto the pitch. |
Kings of Leon – Sex on Fire Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The video is about an exorcism, said so in the NME. Take that how ya want. |
Elbow – Grounds for Divorce Lyrics | 15 years ago |
In the lyric sheet that comes with the album, it's "polishing a compass that I hold in my sleep", "doubt comes in on sticks..", "a chinese cigarette case..." and the whole second verse "there's a whispering of jokers doing flesh by the pound. To a chorus of supposes from the little town hoods. There'll be twisted karaoke at the aniseed lounge. And i'd bring you further roses but it does you no good." aside from that, nice try. |
Finch – Dreams Of Psilocybin Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Finch – Bitemarks and Bloodstains (Album Version) Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Straylight Run – Hands in the Sky (Big Shot) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
are you guys retarded.. it's about the holocaust by easyxluckyxfreee on 03-16-2007 @ 10:28:24 PM even in the music video.. they show the atomic bomb, ect. That's extremely offensive, y'no. I know it's used a lot in American colloquial slang and that, but it's actual meaning is very offensive in those terms.. A lot of people seem to miss that artists can make lyrics ambiguous so that it can be put into context in more than one area - I for one cannot see the direct holocaust references in it, but I defiantly agree with 1984 references (your name suggests you like Bright Eyes, it's one of Conor Oberst's favorite books, he references it a few times too), and he's using it to reference to modern wars as well. Winston smith getting that book which is one of the only blank page books in existence (creativity is kinda outlawed in Oceania), and writing his thoughts into it - he wonders if he should tear it out, constantly knowing it would lead to him being shot The woman and children bit is fairly obvious, blank faced as they have to hide any sadness or emotion - this could also be a metaphor for woman and children being the ones left behind as men go into war, blank faced as the happiness is taken away from them, the font bit being newspapers and the general media lying - a very large element in so many things. Living lives like dears in headlights - Winston Smith, especially when he's waiting for room 101, he is kept waiting for so long, even saying "I wonder when they'll come and get me", he's kept in that constant fear. This could also be a metaphor towards soldiers, you can figure out how, and even civilian citizens - 9/11, the london tube bombings, ect. Also, soldiers being drafted into war. We want you, have to, need you - Soldiers being recruited. And the final repeating chorus - Winston Smith getting shot..? Also, soldiers in the war. And if it really matters for those that ask, a gun pointed up in a diagonal angle towards the head from behind - the bullet could go through the neck, up though the spinal chord into the skull, and go through to come out the face between the eyes. x |

Cheap Sex – Fuck Emo Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Hmmmm.... Well, I can take solace in that none of this is remotely witty. and Brand New, Bright Eyes, Glassjaw All write truly astonishing lyrics. Emo wins again! x |
Penknifelovelife – There's Nothing More Romantic Than Watching The World Die Lyrics | 16 years ago |
How messed up the world in general is, i'm guessing. It's terrifying, chavs and that in most areas going out at night means you'll just get stabbed. It's a mess and it's hard to fix, and even what we're born as is a mess |
Penknifelovelife – Porphyria's Lover Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The lyrics to this are amazing imo. It's not really a thing you can relate to, but it's so brilliantly done - like late victorian gothic poetry, and obviously the name is refrencing 'Porpyria's Lover' By Robert Browning. I'm not sure if it's trying to metaphor to anything but its most plain outline is that it's someone's total despair in someone they love dying, and how they would do and try to do anything to take that person back, but obviously they can't. Very different from the original poem Porpyria's Lover though, that's someone killing someone that they love so they can never leave them.. |
