I believe this song is about a philosophical journey. His eyes open wide due to the astonishment of the starts because he is filled with philosophical wonder. He is wondering where his home is because you must leave a comfort zone in order to think philosophically and you cannot dwell forever in that realm due to sanity. The child reference is then dealing with the idea that children are filled with wonder. Also the avalon comment could have something to do with the fact that the world of philosophy is like heaven or the search to be in a paradise so to speak. It took me awhile but I'm pretty sure that this is what the song means. |

I changed my mind. I think this song is saying that the gravity of the sun (which is a girl) is pulling the boys star toward it. The reason she is the only one who knows what it is to burn is because she is the center of the galaxy and is the one who controls the orbits of everything around her. I think it's a really sweet love song. That's just me though. |

This song reminds me of Icaruas. I was just reading about Icrasus. I think all it's saying is that someone tried hard to achieve glory and failed and now their in their own personal hell but the guy finds comfort with a girl who did the same thing. Who tried hard to achieve greatness and fell as well. Maybe they both started too young and their wings melted in the fire of the sun. That's all I've got. Maybe they feel safe together because they both know what it feels like the burn up like that and then burn in their own personal hell. |

I agree with what the last person has said. The only thing is that if the ambitious person is a good person even if he/ she does fail there will always be a lot of people especially children that will look up to them. It is ambitious people who fail that sometimes make better role models then the ones that succeed. Everyone however, is ambitious in their own way and at some point everyone hits a place in their life when they feel this way. Sometimes it comes later in life and sometimes it comes earlier depending on what it is you are dealing with. I just think that if people rememembered that to someone like a child they didn't fail then they would always try to see how far Icarus's wings could go. |

I agree with janeitals. A friend of mine told me to listen to this song and I just had a completely different perspective then they did. It was weird. I think it's interesting for venting or coffee talk though. The song also reminds me of this one movie with socrates as a character. The main character wants to throw a part of himself off a building but in the end he comes to terms with it and feels better and gets over that side instead of killing it. I think it's interesting to see what people say about lyrics. That's my personal opinion. |

I'm going to keep this really simple. True (real) love is a death sentence. No matter what it ends badly for someone. I think the girl is pushing him to fall in love. Not so much forcing him but he's falling and he doesn't want to fall in love but the way she makes him feel makes him fall. When he tells her to put the trigger on his finger I think it's saying you're falling too and i'm the one responsible. If you think about it you're never the one that falls in love with the other person. It's the other person that makes you fall in love with them. Right? |

I think that the reference to the movie seven is perfect in this situation especially if it's true. The reason I say this is because in the "Divine Comedy" in Heaven the 7th ring is for those who contemplate. In the movie seven at the end the the good cop, brad pitt, recieves his wife's head in a box. Honestly, ok... A lady bug is a lucky bug in Eastern society... All I really think this song is saying is that boys smash up things metaphorically to prove something... ie... girls and boys are the same we just show things differently.... Look, I'm sorry but this song is not a kiss my fucking ass song or anything like that. Before Brittany shaved her head, I did. I have never stolen money from friends but I did take the blame a few times although I shouldn't have. I am rapid mixed cycling bipolar one... I tell my friends this is a bullshit thing, but that's simply because there is such a stigma with bipolar disorder. In all honesty I have been hospitalized several times and it is a serious disorder. I hope she gets some help, because bipolar disorder is very serious... Your mind works against you instead of for you... I hope Brittany gets some help... her disorder is serious and dangerous if you google bipolar you will see that... People seem to care more about people who have bodily disorders as opposed to mental ones. In all honesty when I shaved my head I told people that knew me that I had cancer because people make fun of people who have mental disorders but they don't make fun of people with cancer. I recant my previous statements about this song... After further research of topics sparked by the line "alpha waves" I have decided that this song is different then I first expected. Anthony Green was or is (i am unsure) in a band named zoloft the creativity killer (or something to that effect). Anthony Green has also written songs about the book House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski which is basically a layered novel about psychosis. With that information and his liking to films such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind I have thusly changed my opinion to that which follows:

**Stanza one:
Although he says 'we' I don't know if he is talking about 'we' being one person or 'we' being two people. I am going to take a stance on 'we' being one person... this is theme in some literature and religions... i.e. 'we' being the 'I' (Please note I have recently finshined Ayn Rand's ANTHEM. Anyway, if 'we' is reference to the collective soul but also used to not distinguish the self, 'I' (the ego) then perhaps what he is saying is as a whole we try but I am falling apart due to the fact that he wants to be an individual. A fight ensues but I am taking this on a broader 'world view' scale as opposed to two people. Perhpas it is saying another war starts and he begins to wake up... Perhaps the line, "I once believed..." is dealing with the idea that in a war each group fighting sees things in a different way and each group is trying to force another to see their views (think South Park the Marklar episode with the Ethiopians)....
If only I had the strength then maybe you could believe in something else.
**(Let's call this) Stanza Two:
Perhaps it is saying if only I had the power to make you change your views to mine then you would accept this situation for the way that I see it and abandon your own points. This is a common war theme of today dealing with the 'religious' war that is going on between America and the Middle East. Please note that I have a view that in war or even volunteer work attempting to convert someone to your views is highly difficult especially when you see things in a different way. It is my beliefe that if you want to convert someone to your viewpoints you must allow the opposing forces to come to a point when they begin to questiong their own views... this is the necessary element for conversion if you think about it. So what he is saying here is you can't set someone else in line unless they are first willing to question their position...

I do not see this as being relationship bound so much as saying if you keep asking him questions or asking him what his beliefes are only to counter him then he's just going to disappear and give up because it would be a great deal easier to do that then point out the flaws in the other persons arguments and/or beliefes. Perhaps hurt is not dealing with the emotional idea of being denounced but a more violent concept due to the references in earlier stances to riot.. (That word stands out because a riot is never between just two people if you think about it) however riot can also mean... To grow luxuriant and with abundance (ironic?).
**Stanza, this one:
Through and through the alpha waves and power cables everywhere.
Exercising self-control.
The child calls and she lies open.
I once believed if only I was thinking at all.
I think this is taking from a group to singular to better explain a point. Perhaps it is a child of the rioting opposition that makes a soilder realize that they may not be as right as they thought in their views. To me it seems like that "oh, fuck" moment when you realize that there is more going on then you first realized. Also alpha waves are waves that are considered harmonious to creativity. I recently read that EP-MRSI make people with manaic depression have a normal mood after one pass through the MRI machine at this frequency (See Harvard). So maybe it's saying, now that I have the time to clearly think I realize my own errors and now have no idea what to say. Perhaps it has an element of 'shit now my hands are tied' type of dealing...
Final Stanza:

**I am going to verbatum quote the dictionary on this one... My focus is the word stole (the definition I have chosen thus follows) to pass, happen, etc., imperceptibly, gently, or gradually... It ends with the vibe it happened, I get it, I have regrets, but I'm better for it so hell, I might as well smile.
I guess the entire song can be taken from a relationship perspective or it can be taken on a global war perspective... I think this song is simply saying you have certain moments in your life that make you realize something... I think this song is basically about one moment. Just one. |

To me I see the battle thing. Maybe though it isn't about how he survived... maybe its during the battle, before the battle and after the battle. However, the person the song is about is a soldier... the person 'singing' the song is not.

I think it means the government will 'tie their hands behind their back' i.e. force them to go off to war... It makes war seem really somber when they say the line "To set me off on someones lawn"... I think that line is basically saying he's being sent off to die on someones lawn... literally... they don't always fight wars in random fields... due to the middle east theme I guess I can say that america should have listened to their founding fathers and stayed out of foregin affairs. I feel guilty not being nice to people sometimes but you shouldn't ever call anybody a whore etc. Sometimes people have real problems and they really need help... this song reminds me of an ex from high school... he said his parents wouldn't let him play football and he really wanted to... he was supposably being abused so I took him to the hospital one night when he ran to my house. I needed more help then he did but instead I helped him... which turned out to cause more trouble in my life then it was worth. He went on to have a happy family and they let him follow his dreams... I hate being rude but he doesn't deserve to succeed. I offered help when help was needed and got nothing in return except a TON of bullshit. You don't do that to people. His parents should be proud. They raised a fine son. Not so much. |

Well, well... interesting song... here's something a little more interesting... If we are the generation who knows how to operate the technology the best, if we are the generation who fuels the economy with our purchases, then are we not the generation that could easily end much of the worlds problems. I mean relationship drama (in all forms) is proven to be enough to keep anyone busy... why all the rest of the drama? Like athletes why don't we let different athletes play each year? Then they can take breaks and they won't ruin their bodies or take steroids because there will be no need. And crime, if we just helped clean things up no problem... And if all the youths got together and decided domestic abuse/ emotional abuse is no longer acceptable could we not pit ourselves against our parents... Just think if all the youths banded together and embarassed their parents in an auditorium, the secret would be out and then could they really keep it up? I think this song is about a different sort of love. This is sensual love at its pinncale. This is being so into someone to the point that they don't even matter... you just kind of flow... just exist... but then when the lights go down the sexual connection is so erotic, so intense that it is just an explosion. Like (I don't know the word but) when in a movie they just flip through a lot of sequences of pictures really quick... like a flip book like when a flower comes into bloom but sped up and then they show something else and something else and something else... I got a kick out of the George Orwell thing... Maybe it is high school/ 1984... It reminds me of the movie Juno. Haha... high school was such a horrible experience... If I could go back in time I would have sent myself to an all girls private school somewhere else. About all I got out of it were some decent test scores and a substance abuse problem. I don't think I was ever really sober in high school... I got involved with the wrong type of boy and that scared me off from relationships for a really long time... even now still... I get drunk and cry **for** him... He treated me like complete shit and made up all these little lies and it was so... I felt so sorry for him... He came off as being Mr. Player and his ego was larger then life. I remember once he actually said to people that he didn't talk to me until I was hot... funny thing is he stared at me all the time and everytime one of his friends decided they were interested he would swoop around with his broad little chest and block the other guy from my view. It was so amusing. Boys are fairly dumb... I remember right before I graduated he was like "Everyone makes fun of you and everyone hates you", in one year I get to laugh at the person I thought was the biggest joke in my high school... I even learned about the sport he plays so I can sit back with some popcorn on draft day. |

Well, here's the thing... talking to oneself is a sign of high intellegence... I'm going to guess at why (don't quote me, I'm not going to background check this)... When a person does a lot of reading, thinking, etc... they begin to process this info and talk to themselves about it... Like instead of checking thoughts with someone else they check them with themselves because all the info is up there. He also says he's a little "Impaired" Probably alcohol? Alcohol inhibits sleep. Coming off a nice bender is quite the little nightmare. The above comment it interesting... I see things a little bit differently... What if all a mental disorder is is a different way of processing thought... Like I have had different computers with different processors... Also windows vista vs window XP, etc. We all have a different version of the human brain. Perhaps if we began educating people by giving examples we would be better off. I read a lot of philosophy and sometimes people think these ideas up but don't know philosophy and that, in my opinion, is enough to drive anyone nuts. Plus everything is carnal vs mind, this vs that... It's like the tragic hero... Their greatest weakness is their biggest strength... Maybe it's the same for the mind... The more you can do with it the more dangerous it becomes to you? |

I like this song alot. I can totally relate to this in a lot of ways. I pretty much spent the last four years of my life as a complete drug addicted drunk. The funny thing was, was that before I ever did drugs I bought a bag of coke and brought it to my mother trying to explain to her that I couldn't take my problems any more and they weren't giving me a way out. All she did was yell. All she does is yell. When I was in college she would call me hammared, it was really sad. I definately couldn't take it. I surrounded myself with untrustworthy friends and people because I didn't want to bring the good/nice people down. I always felt sorry and tried to protect people from me. I started changing my life but I was stuck in a bad enviornment and there were too many problems that I couldn't handle. I'm not a control freak but if someone is burdening me with their problems and they don't listen to my advice but keep it up I can't take it. I tried reaching out for help but I had no friends to turn to. I tried reaching out to an exboyfriend who popped up but he couldn't even give me a straight answer... I always thought people were nicer... I guess I was really wrong. I always thought that if you couldn't help someone, you would find someone who could... I was wrong.
