The Beatles – Back in the U.S.S.R. Lyrics 16 years ago
I prefer to call it an homage to the Beach Boys not a parody. I love the fast paced lyrics and trying sing along to it. Love it!

The Beatles – In My Life Lyrics 16 years ago
I don't understand the drugs theory at all. It's just the most perfect, most beautiful love song. Everything that went before pales into insignificance now that he has met someone he loves so completely. Makes me a blubbering mess after not hearing it in a while.

Paul Simon – Still Crazy After All These Years Lyrics 16 years ago
I would agree with everyone here that the song is about a couple of one time lovers who meet up and reminicse, and agree they're 'still crazy' after all these years; it's the last verse that has me puzzled.

"now i sit by my window and i watch the cars
i fear i'll do some damage one fine day
but i would not be convicted by a jury of my peers
still crazy after all these years..."

He seems to be implying that the 'crazy' here is of the insane variety. Perhaps the window he is looking out of is of an institution. He also says he would not be convicted by a jury of his peers, is this because he is already incarcerated and what does he mean by doing some damage one fine day? Something dangerous/illegal/mad?

Still a great song

Kate Bush – Waking the Witch Lyrics 16 years ago
This song follows the track 'Dream of Sleep' on the second side of the album where someone is trapped under ice and knows that if they give in to their tiredness and sleep they will die. 'Waking the Witch' is the inevitable exhaustion that occurs after struggling to get out of the water and the nightmare that ensues.

The lyrics portray a witch trial where she is condemned to death which is an anology for the freezing water, also condenming her to death.

It is a very powerful song and after hearing it again after several years it still gives me goosebumps. The greetings from different voices is very evocative of perhaps of comforting memories of the past. The trial is disturbing and terrorfying with it's demonic atmosphere.

The helicopters at the end signal the end of the nightmare and back to reality as she is finally rescued from the water.

Such a bold, daring and imaginative song! Fantastic!

Kirsty MacColl – In These Shoes? Lyrics 16 years ago
I love the line:
"Won't you walk up and down my spine,
It makes me feel strangely alive."
I said "In these shoes?
I doubt you'd survive."
I said "Honey, let's do it.

So naughty!

Kirsty MacColl – Autumngirlsoup Lyrics 16 years ago
I just love this song - it's so beautiful as well as melancholy. At first I thought it was about sexual longing with the lyric:

"on a cold grey day, a cold grey man will do"

but I realise now it's much more than that. It's about a woman's emotional vulnerability to a man's sexual predatory nature. Likenen it to a recipe is clever and witty and some of the lines are very erotic like:

"Get me on the boil and reduce me to a simmering wreck with a slow kiss to the back of my neck"

Kirsty was a genius wordsmith - she is sadly missed!
