Shadows Fall – Act Of Contrition Lyrics 14 years ago
This song is about an episode from Battlestar Galactica. The first season, fourth episode is titled "act of contrition". I recently started watching the show since ive gotten more into space operas in the last couple years(mass effect, new star trek movie, star wars, firefly/serenity, etc). When I read the title I remembered a Shadows Fall song by the same title. I read the lyrics and saw the episode and it ties in perfectly. The episode is about a girl(Kara) who is feeling remorse because of the fact that she let this man Apollo's brother(Zack) into flight combat even though he wasn't fully trained for it and wasn't even capable of the basics. The reason she felt so terrible is because she was in love with Zack, and she let her feelings towards him get the best of her instead of denying him into the the squadron like she should've. He eventually died and afterwards the father of Zack(commander Adamo) had her become the trainer for the new squadron. But he did not know about the situation with Zack and Kara. He assumed she would use her better judgement to pick pilots like his son(even tho she only let him be a pilot because she let her emotions get the best). The pain was eating her alive and she took her frustrations out on the new squad by letting no one become a pilot even tho it was just their first day of training, she didn't give them a chance because they weren't good enough. The memories of Zack were painful. She felt she didn't want some one else dying and it resting on her conscience. If you read the song lyrics and see episode, u will see its exactly what the song is about. I suppose all bands draw their inspiration from somewhere. Who knew Shadows Fall were fans of Battlestar Galactica. I would've never drawn that line of hardcore metal to space operas lol. Its definitely a great show I recommend watching tho. And shadows fall is one of the best bands of course :-)

Between the Buried and Me – Disease, Injury, Madness Lyrics 14 years ago
It sounds like a dark entity, probably Satan, speaking to some one. Being that he is making it seem like everything will be alright at first, and take the person to a higher place. As if he will be a king, like Satan would claim to lure some one in. Then says "Trust the Pedestal". Telling the person that he is their new sin and lust. Then referring to that person as a slave with a predetermined fate/destiny. The child is the prey. Unsure of what choices to make, so he lures him in with the fantasy of becoming a king. When in fact he wants to enslave and destroy all of humanity. "I am a cult by defintion, a friend by first impression" gives off that vibe. "I bid every method into the hands of my employees", employees being his workers/recruits he believed he saved and now should do his dirty work. "Tonights your death, Resurrect my new you", in other words, your sould is mine. "I am a cult by definition, i will end this human world", fairly selfexplanatory. The part "I am a cult by definition, scientist by default" makes sense when u consider this. If its Satans 'goal' to take followers from God, science would be the best way to provoke these people. Convince them there is no God or afterlife, after all, if u dont believe in that, by default u go to hell. Thus "Fuck humanity, end humanity. You are now dead, and i soon will be." In final battle between God and Satan, Satan loses.

Avenged Sevenfold – Almost Easy Lyrics 16 years ago
Well what i meant was that no matter what, people tend to side with the devil. Lets just say for instance that there IS a heaven and a hell(i believe there is because i believe there is a higher power than what we know, but for those of us who dont believe that, juss pretend that there is a heaven and a hell for a minute). Do u know how many people that are fans of Avenged Sevenfold that will say "sure, i'll go to hell with Avenged Sevenfold any day"? Lots of people, and what i was getting at is that, even tho, most people know or atleast have an idea hell, most know that if they do side with the devil, all they are gonna do is burn eternally. Personally i dont know how that sounds fun to them, what do they think that this is an anime cartoon??, With flames around u or something looking cool?? Put ur hand on a lit candle, and tell me if u wanna live the rest of ur afterlife engullfed in flames. Some people have the silly imagination that when they get to hell they are gonna party and drink and have sex, when clearly the bibles states that you are going to burn forever. Anyways, thats besides the point. While i am no bible expert, verses that i have read indicate that there are many ways the devil will try to sway u and make things feel alright. Ever hear the expression "why does everything thats wrong, feels so right"?? To me its a stupid expression, but applies in many ways to how the devil "works". U think about some of the biggest sins in the bible, adultery, blasphemy, and one of the biggest being vanity, most people are won over by vanity. Self-love in other words. People who care about only doing things to better themselves and what they have or own. According to the bible this would be the devils favorite sin. In those certain sentences where M. Shadows says "I treated you so wrong, now let me make it all right", the way i saw it(considering the setting of the video), is Satan wanting to make up for his wrongs, by giving you something, anything u can think of. "How about Instant Bliss???" as Al Pacino would say in the Devils Advocate(a good movie that devles further into what vanity and the Devil are about). Most people go for this(selfishly). While i do not believe that every band or every other person famous in the world has sold there soul to the devil to achieve things, i do believe that there are more than a handful who have. Especially bands that sport 666 like its cool. Many have their own beliefs, but look what this "fake" fame has eventually led them down. Theyve had drug addictions(and died from that), became alcholics(losing everything they love dearly in some cases), and overall chose a rode that leads to a life of sadness and emptiness. The lines "shame pulses,.....", "its hard to face,....", and the "suicidal memories,..." all are pretty simple because they jump straight to the next one letting u know the while the devil may be shameful of what he does, its nothing new(in other words, he hasnt stopped, nor will he ever stop). And he's selfish in his ways(doing something for u just to get more people to join him in hell or to bring about the apocalypse), though deep inside he's not insane. Him being against God, he probably feels that what he's doing is the right thing to do, and shouldnt be branded as being insane for doing what he pleases to those who join him.
So yea, hopefully that helped you better understand what i was getting at. The only line i dont understand is the end of verse one, where he says "How long did i,....love outweigh ignorance,....look on your face,,,,,,,forced the scale to tip". By Love i think he means God, and like u said, bliss is supposedly like heaven(or A Little Piece of Heaven, lol). As thats what Satan would prefer. He'd rather Reign in Hell, than serve in Heaven. So bliss would be the obvious choice. I just dont understand the "by that look on your face i may have forced the scale to tip". I dont know what to say of that, other than it could possibly mean that after all he's done to those(who've slipped a way as he's tried to hold on), he may have gone too far, even if he feels he's not insane. Thats all i have for now on this. They have some great music tho, most people just cant see through the lack of screaming and have an issue with them like some who have posted on pages and talk about them. All i say about them is watch out what u are singing if u dont agree with what they are singing. That goes for all music out there. Theres things i dont understand about Avenged Sevenfold tho. They kind of confuse me as a band in what they talk about tho. I'll post what i mean on the Afterlife songmeanings page.

Avenged Sevenfold – Almost Easy Lyrics 16 years ago
I completely agree with sleeptones. Prior to seeing the video, i thought the song was about some1 he loved and lost. But then after seeing the video, the song makes more sense especially considering Avenged Sevenfold invokes alot of religious and devilishly themes throughout their music
"Come back to me its almost easy"(the devil trying to sway back those he lost), henceforth ppl are coming back to him and jumping into hell willingly. "Shame pulses through my heart, from the things i've done to you, its hard to face, but the fact remains that this is nothing new"(ppl know that in the religious battle, siding with the devil will eventually lead to a life of eternal torture and pain, yet its nothing new to them as they know what they are doing and do it anyways. "Now that I’ve lost you it kill me to say(Hurts to say) , I try to hold on as you slowly slip away. I’m losing the fight. I treated you so wrong, now let me make it right. (Make it all right",.. (in the bible, the devil is destined to lose against God,...to sway ppl back to him even tho he's hurt them, he will grant something to them. Its kinda like when you hear ppl say they sold their soul to the devil for something, whether it be fame, or who knows. So the devil will make it right, even if for a brief time period and eventually turn back to screwing you over,...thats why he keeps saying Come back to me its almost easy),...."I let you down inside with suicidal memories, Selfish beneath the skin, But deep inside I'm not insane." (another example of the devil hurting ppl and being selfish in his ways to sway more ppl to join him in hell,..but yet feels deep inside he's not insane)/

Well, thats what i came up with as my theory of what the video is about. When i first heard the song, i thought, finally, avenged sevenfold isnt quoting the bible and making more personal music, but they are still using their biblical and religious references. Thats who they are though, great music, but u have to definately listen to it with open eyese and ears, especially if u personally dont agree with anything they are saying. And i thought the song was about like some1 he loved or something. But After seeing the video, if u really put together the lyrics and video it makes sense, and i think that the song is almost exactly like my theory.
