Sting – Roxanne Lyrics 14 years ago
Hmmm interesting, that sounds even more like the guy's dealing with jealousy and other complex issues related to open non-monogamy. (And, looking at the rest of the song, that he hasn't dealt with his feelings very well and is sort of acting like an asshole, wanting her to quit her job and financial security just so she can date him)

The person the song is sung about sounds like a complete jerk in the middle of the song - he implies she should be grateful he didn't disrespect her (wow, what a stand-up guy...) but tells her to put her stuff away and to stop working because "it's a bad way" (perhaps he's highly religious and his beliefes tell him so?) and he doesn't want to "share" her (which implies he's either very jealous and thinks she'll magically fall in love with a client - highly unlikely as this is just business for them, in the same way that that lady that sold me my car isn't really THAT interested in my personnal life - or perhaps he doesn't seem to understand that prostitutes deal in sex not love - pretend love, yes, but real love? For a woman, or anyone, to be like that you'd basically have to fall in love with people at the drop of a hat - someone like that would more likely end up in a dead-end marriage that fizzled out than at a red light district...)

In summary, this song is about the types of men who think they can "save" prostitutes.... from what? their independence and financial security?
This guy the song sings about claims to be in love with the person he's talking to, a prostitute, and decides to show his boundless love by making her quit her job and presumably become financially dependant on his income - because of his emotional issues with regards to jealousy/fear and possessiveness and all (or, maybe he's simply the kind of guy who simply doesn't want his womenfolk working/making more money than him, regardless of occupation, for religious reasons - or he simply doesn't want them selling their sexual services for religious reasons...)

My original critique is a little too vague so here's another one:

My original critique is a little too vague so here's another one: (I'm posting it here because I'm pretty sure almost no one reads past the first page)

Me too, despite the fact that it's basically a song about a man who claims to be in love with a prostitute, but then decides to show his boundless love by making her quit her job and presumably become financially dependant on his income - because of his emotional issues with regards to jealousy and possessiveness and all...

Or, maybe he's simply the kind of guy who simply doesn't want his womenfolk working/making more money than him, regardless of occupation, because of religious views or whatever - the person the song is sung about sounds like a comple jerk in the middle of the song - he implies she should be grateful he didn't disrespect her but tells her to but her stuff away and to stop working because "it's a bad way" and he doesn't want to "share" her (which implies he's either very jealous and thinks she'll magically fall in love with a client - highly unlikely - or he doesn't seem to understand that prostitutes deal in sex not love)

I disagree with mikxx's interpretation... to me, this is a song about a man who claims to be in love with a prostitute and decides to show his boundless love by making her quit her job and presumably become financially dependant on his income - because of his emotional issues with regards to jealousy and possessiveness and all...

A song about a man who claims to be in love with a prostitute and decides to show his boundless love by making her quit her job and, one has to assume, become financially dependant on his income, because of his emotional issues with regards to jealousy and possessiveness. (or, maybe he's simply the kind of guy who doesn't want his womenfolk working at all...)

From watching their music video so many times I realised they seem to be telling us that 2 or 3 men in the video are trans, and one woman is trans

The Moody Blues – Melancholy Man Lyrics 16 years ago
so sad.... reminds me of when I was depressed and when I was slowly realizing there was something wrong with me.

"I'm a very lonely man, doing what I can, "
I never really had any real friends when I was depressed, and I struggled throught life, not being able to see the positive aspects of things at all, always seeing the negative, always punishing myself & beating myself down, becoming so emotionally dead that I only felt pain and sorrow, and emptiness.
Following lines also describe this
"Another man is what you'll see,
Who looks like you and looks like me,
And yet somehow he will not feel the same,
His life caught up in misery, he doesn't think like you and me,
'Cause he can't see what you and I can see. "
Being depressed, I also wondered what made other people so different, so happy? What did they have that I didn't? I figured I was just meant to be this way, that in the game of life there were winners and losers, and I had lost somehow.

At least, there is hope (just like when one realises what he's feeling is depression, and he might be able to get healthier somehow) :
"That we're going to keep growing, wait and see. "

"When all the stars are falling down
Into the sea and on the ground,
And angry voices carry on the wind,"
When everything goes wrong...

"A beam of light will fill your head
And you'll remember what's been said
By all the good men this world's ever known. "
...There's still some hope

Nine Inch Nails – The Only Time Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is probably about someone having his first homosexual experience despite being told that it's wrong.
"I'm drunk / And right now I'm so in love with you"
Lowered inhibitions.
"And I don't want to think too much about what we should or shouldn't do"
"While the devil wants to fuck me in the back of *his* car"
"My moral standing is lying down"
"Maybe I'm all messed up /Maybe I'm all messed up in you"
He's been taught by his religion that homosexuality is morally wrong.
"This is the only time I really feel alive"
"I swear / I just found everything I need"
"Nothing quite like the feel of something new"
He enjoys having sex with men, or at the very least, he enjoyed fucking that one guy at the back of his car.
