Johnny Cash – Hurt (Nine Inch Nails cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
Haunting. This is a NIN song, but Cash's interpretation has an entirely different meaning. Instead of drug addiction (as Reznor's version implies), he is dealing with his life story...

"this song reminds me of my troubles.. i love this girl, who is going out with my best friend. she cheated on him with me countless times. she SAID she loved me, but now everything is gone. she said she lost feelings. this reminds me off everything we used to do together. GOODBYE MY LOVER "

My comment is this. Did you SERIOUSLY think that this would work out for you? You cheated on your BEST FRIEND with HIS girlfriend!

As karma would have it I think you got yours...that was a gutless and evil thing to do...

Avenged Sevenfold – Walk (Pantera cover) Lyrics 16 years ago
This is a PANTERA track, a band as gay as Avenged Seven Fold should not take credit for or be able to even cover this track!

Pantera – Walk Lyrics 16 years ago
This is the song that gave me back my confidence and self belief. For the years I was at high school I suffered at the hands of bullies who wripped my confidence to shreds and left me in tatters. They basically chewed me up and spat me back out. This song is about attitude and self belief. I got into the metal scene and found an outlet and music I loved. Far from being the victim, I became the victor, this song was my anthem. I forgot all about the bullies and their cruel taunts, I became the person who I am now.

"Can't you see I'm easily bothered by persistence
One step from lashing out at you..."

I was bothered by the persistence of the bullies and I was literally ready to lash out at them...

"You want in to get under my skin
And call yourself a friend"

They tried to be my friends just so they could wrip me to shreads, just to get under my skin.

"I've got more friends like you
What do I do?"

Every friend I had was like them, only my friend on the surface, simply because they were not on my wavelength.

"Is there no standard anymore?
What it takes, who I am, where I've been
Belong"

There were no standards, the bullies had no standards! I wondered who I was and I tried to "belong", but just didn't.

"You can't be something you're not
Be yourself, by yourself
Stay away from me
a lesson learned in life
Known from the dawn of time"

Music became my outlet and helped me make new friends who were "different" just like me. I found I could only be myself and developed the confidence to say I liked myself and ask the bullies to "stay away from me".

"Run your mouth when I'm not around
It's easy to achieve
You cry to weak friends that sympathize"

This is EXACTLY what they were like, they would spread all sorts behind my back when I wasn't around. They had these shallow friends who were their sympathisers and joined in. They were the weak ones, not me. The violins symbolies how discordant their lives were!

"Those same friends tell me your every word"
The bully's so called friends ended up grassing them up to me.

RESPECT, WALK, WHAT DO YOU SAY!

Classic line repeated over and over to myself, my confidene, my spirt was never broken by them.

Now whenever I go to a club I always shout the words as if they were my own. I have a boyfriend who is as nuts and metal loving as I am and I am starting my Masters degree. More than these shallow people will ever have in their pitiful existences.

I won RIP DIME!

James Blunt – Goodbye My Lover Lyrics 16 years ago
Lyrically this song is very powerful, more so than melodically. Its message is one of fundermental loss and I think that speaks univocally to a person, regardless of the type of loss they have experienced. The lyrics open with the protagonist seeking to find out why his lover has left him. Evidently she has met somebody else. His crie de cour is one of extreme passion and loss made evident in the opening stanza. He doubted the releationship from the outset, he knew she was blinded by the love of another. It was his "eternal right" to question her fidelity by metophorically opening her soul to explaination. The part that really makes me cry is "I've kissed your lips and held your hand, shared your dreams and shared your bed. I know you well, I know your smell; I've been addicted to you". I think we have all felt like this, when someone has been entwined with us and etched in our heart, part of them exists within us. My current relationship is like that, he is part of my soul and this is exactly how I would feel if he left me. This person is still attached to him and exists within his dreams in the second stanza, he can almost feel her still with him. "It's my dreams you take" referrs to this. "We've had our doubts but now we're fine" referrs to his relationship being put to rights within his own psyche, dispite the fact that she left. "And I will bear my soul in time, when I'm kneeling at your feet" is a wish that she would come back to him in reality. His soul can only be cleansed if she were with him, but because he is unfulfilled he remains "hollow". I hope you all agree with my interpretation of this song.
