Evanescence – Field Of Innocence Lyrics 11 years ago
I'm surprised no one has brought religion into this.
As a former Christian turned atheist, these lyrics speak to me. Whether or not this was the intended meaning, this is exactly the way I felt when I de-converted. I wanted to go back to "believing in everything and knowing nothing at all". And "trapped in the eyes of a stranger"... growing up I never would have imagined being an atheist, it was becoming something totally foreign to all of my previous life experience. However believing in God just goes against all my reasoning, and now that I've already done this process I can't go back to blissful ignorance. There was healing afterwards but this song definitely captured what it felt like for me at the time.

Train – Drive By Lyrics 11 years ago
I can't stand this song because it's on that blasted Ford commercial that is on the TV 24/7 and it's on the radio every day. If it weren't for that though, it's a cute and catchy song. But is the girl on the other side of the street the same girl?

Vienna Teng – Recessional Lyrics 12 years ago
Actually, on further thought, I think it might be that the child is her biological daughter who she gave up for adoption. She sees her, and is thinking about what could have been and whether her decision was the right one. That would make a little more sense with the "I never thought I would find her here" and the "the stranger in the shell of a lover, dark curtains drawn by the passage of time?"

@dresdendoll I absolutely agree with this interpretation. That it was about someone else's child was the first thing that I thought it was - especially since I had just listened to "Lullaby for a Stormy Night" which seemed kind of similar.

To add a little to what you said,
"There's a reason not to want this but I forgot..." - this line is obvious, in this context
"Who are you, echoing street signs?" - children do this all the time in the car
"Who are you, the stranger in the shell of a lover" - children resemble their parents but are their own person

30 Seconds to Mars – This Is War Lyrics 13 years ago
I liked this song but now I am kind of sick of it because there are so many bad AMVs that use this. Idk why it's so popular in the anime fan community.

At any rate, the song mentions "the people, the good and the evil, the Soldier, The Civilian, The Martyr, The Victim, the prophet, the liar, the honest, the leader, the pariah, the victim, the messiah" When he says "This is war", I think he means something that transcends all of these things. Because he's talking "to" all of these people. What that is, I don't really know. But it sounds cool that there's some great cause that everyone needs to be fighting for, right now.

Mae – Awakening Lyrics 13 years ago
@luvmesings -- Agreed. And if you haven't seen it, Koopiskeva created a beautiful AMV ("Momentum") using this song with the anime "5 Centimeters per Second", which you can find on youtube. For me it really brings this song even more to life...and if you've seen 5cm per second you would know why ;-)

Duran Duran – Come Undone Lyrics 14 years ago
The first verse sounds like it's about a newborn child.
"Mine, immaculate dream made breath and skin
I've been waiting for you
Signed, with a home tattoo,
Happy birthday to you was created for you"

"signed with a home tattoo" could refer to a birthmark.

Mute Math – Clockwork Lyrics 14 years ago
And to comment as to the content of the lyrics for this particular song, I think it is talking about the Biblical reference in Proverbs about resolving conflict before the sun goes down. What comes to mind first when I hear this song is I imagine a husband and wife that have been having this longstanding unresolved conflict, and then after putting it off, before they know it it's too late to fix it - maybe one of them wants a divorce, or perhaps one of them dies. And the one remaining is left with regret that they didn't try to make things right when they still had the chance. I suppose it could also apply to other family, boyfriend/girlfriend, or just regular friendship.

Mute Math – Clockwork Lyrics 14 years ago
Mute Math has some great tunes and beats, but the difference between where they are now and where they could be is that musically their verses tend to be much more boring compared to their awesome choruses, with this song being an example. The entire songs tend to have great lyrics but they need to get a little more musically creative in the rest of the song. I do love this song, but I can imagine it being so much better and getting so much more crazy if their non-chorus sections were more memorable

This song fits Mute Math much better than Electrify

Mute Math – Electrify Lyrics 14 years ago
Really, MuteMath? This song doesn't sound bad but the lyrics suck. Generic and mundane. Doesn't fit with the rest of the album either. Just him singing about his lust for some girl, like all the other artists

Mute Math – No Response Lyrics 14 years ago
"We'll ask imaginary friends Why no response" Personally I don't think there's much room for interpretation here, this is hardcore about doubting the existence of God - and not just doubting, but pretty much giving up

Owl City – Fireflies Lyrics 14 years ago
The song is definitely about insomnia - and although the tune is quite happy, the lyrics are somewhat sad. Insomnia is often a byproduct of depression. As someone who currently suffers from insomnia I can relate. He's saying that the night time hours when everyone else is sleeping are beautiful (fireflies=stars) but it is also lonely. "I'd like to make myself believe that planet Earth turns slowly" and "I'm weird because I hate goodbyes, I got misty eyes as they said farewell" could refer to still being awake when the sun comes up. If you're an insomniac sometimes you want the night time to last forever. But sure enough the sun always comes up and you can't stop the flow of time.

I think a lot of people here are misinterpreting the line "It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep". This means that he would rather be *sleeping*, not awake. (It's like me saying 'It would be hard for me to say that I enjoy getting root canals'.) He would rather be in his dream night world than have to face reality - which gets to the secondary meaning, that is meant to be more subjective is the reason for his insomnia. I think you can interpret it however you want - perhaps something about childhood nostalgia and fear of growing up, or perhaps a lost love, or a combination of both.

Fastball – Funny How It Fades Away Lyrics 16 years ago
This song emphasises the temporality of everything in life. The other significant point here in the lyrics is the question "Who on this planet would ever refuse the chance of a lifetime to love and lose...?" If everything is so temporary, including our lives, then why do we waste it away instead of taking advantage of it and truly experiencing it while it lasts?

Fastball – This Is Not My Life Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about a guy reacting to a breakup (or perhaps more likely, a divorce). He's not able to move on and get over it because he insists that "this is not my life", and that "I live in the shadows...Because you are my life." "This is not my life" and "You took away my world" implies that he is now living single as opposed to in a relationship or marriage. Apparently she was the pin that was holding everything together, and now his whole way of life is altered. ("Do you remember our car/house/what it was like?") He had invested a lot into this girl and now she's gone, and now it seems like all the color is gone from his world.

Jars of Clay – Flood Lyrics 17 years ago
The lyrics are obviously intentionally designed to have multiple meanings and references. The story of Noah is the background theme, with the frequent references to rain, huge flood, waves, and the "forty days." But the story of Noah isn't the main message of the song - it's only the background. Is the song really saying anything at all *about* the story of Noah? Not really.

What it *is* doing is drawing a pretty cool metaphor with the story, as it is applied to the pain and struggles of the individual. The great storm/waves serve to represent the struggles that a Christian may go through with their faith and with sin. The rain represents tears, hence the "rain on my face" that "drench my eyes" The rest of the lyrics emphasize God's restoring ability when we feel that we've lost our foothold ('can't feel my feet touching the ground) or that we're just overwhelmed and think we can't make it ("falling", "drowning",...etc).

And finally, the song as a whole is actually a prayer, and a really humble one at that. It reminds me of many of the Psalms. Great song
