Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Done All Wrong Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think this song is just about how people live to learn from their mistakes, and everyone constantly is doing things wrong and learning from it. If everyone was perfect there would be no point to life. |
Elton John – Circle of Life Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is my funeral song. |
The Black Ghosts – Full Moon Lyrics | 14 years ago |
"When the thorn bush turns white that's when I'll come home I am going out to see what I can sow" -Exactly what it says — he’s going away from home to ‘see what he can sow.’ Eg,to see what he can make of himself. When the ‘thorn bush turns white’ means probably the changing of the seasons. He intends to return next season. "And I don't know where I'll go And I don't know what I'll see But I'll try not to bring it back home with me" -He doesn’t know what he’s setting out to do. He doesn’t know exactly what he’s looking for, but ‘I’ll try not to bring it back home with me’ means that he wants to totally separate himself from the journey. He likes who he is, he doesn’t want the journey to change him, he wants to return who he is. "Like the morning sun your eyes will follow me As you watch me wander, curse the powers that be Cause all I want is here and now but its already been and gone Our intentions always last that bit too long" -His loved ones, his mother, girlfriend etc will watch him like the sun. ‘Morning Sun following him’ means that they follow him constantly, they are inescapable. It’s not just talking about them watching him literally, also his thoughts about wanting him to come home. As they watch him, he ‘curses the powers that be,’ eg he is distressed that there is something unknown driving him, and preventing him from coming home. All he wants is ‘here and now’ eg, he just wants to experience life for the moment, but it seems to him that it keeps slipping away from him. I think ‘Our intentions always last that bit too long’ just means that things you do always take longer than you think. "Far far away, no voices sounding, no one around me and you're still there Far far away, no choices passing, no time confounds me and you're still there" He’s gone ‘far far away’ and, no one has been talking to him, surrounding him as they did previously, to distract him from his family. Here, he doesn’t have to make choices, he is no longer distracted by the passing of time, and he thinks about his loved ones finally. Presumably for the first time in a long time. Without all those things, there is nothing to distract himself and he can delude himself no longer, he has to think about his family. He’s found he can no longer ignore them as much he’s tried in the past because they wont go away, they are simply ‘still there.’ "In the full moons light I listen to the stream And in between the silence hear you calling me" -The defining moment of his life — he’s standing by a stream in the full moon by a stream, and he’s overwhelmed with guilt about the knowledge of how much his family want him to come home. ‘In between the silence’ I think implies that it is silent but the voices are really overwhelming. He thinks about going home. "But I don't know where I am and I don't trust who I've been And If I come home how will I ever leave" -But he decides not to. He doesn’t know where he is in his life, not literally doesn’t know where he is. He doesn’t trust who he’s been — he done things he’s regretted. But I think the word ‘trust’ implies that he’s not sure- he doesn’t know whether or not he regrets it, because he’s changed so much. If he goes home, he’ll be stuck there like the rest of his family. |
Guillemots – Sea Out Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I had another thought. Marbella was a woman he treated badly who left him. Marbella at the end of the song is a different woman to the original one, but her refers to her as Marbella because he's still emotionally in a relationship with her. His 'cheating' refers to his emotional cheating with this woman Marbella that has ruined 'all the rest' of his relationships. Marbella caused him to become emotionally detached and treat all the women in his life like prostitutes. |
The Black Ghosts – Full Moon Lyrics | 15 years ago |
My bad. It actually is 'thorn bush' |
The Black Ghosts – Full Moon Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The lyrics at the start are actually 'When the full moon turns white that's when I'll come home' not 'when the thorn bush turns white...' This song is not about Twilight. Sorry. It's about someone who has left their home and their loved ones to discover themselves. A long time passes between the first verse and the last verse. They've become detached from everything. They miss the people back home, and they're haunted by the fact that said people want them to return but they can't go home because they're just not the person they used to be. Everything has changed. |
Beyoncé – Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree with [hutch], this is the worst fucking song ever. It's also totally pathetic. Like the woman needs a ring to feel secure in her relationship? How incredibly pitiful. |
Guillemots – Sea Out Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It's about a guy who is in love with a girl he's treated badly. She's left him, and he's pining after her, but it turns out she's just one in a long line of similar woman and he'll soon move on to someone else, and the cycle will repeat itself. I think. |
Depeche Mode – Dream On Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The song is totally about drugs and the world of drugs. It's about someone who gets involved with it. Then they're coming clean and having withdrawals and their life going to shit. Because people never get over drugs, not really. |
The Kills – Cheap and Cheerful Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Na, expensive sadness means that he'd wants to be rich and sad rather than poor and happy. He's been in prison and he wished he'd been able to be bailed out, because parole drives him mad, as do constant hospital bills and pressures. It's very beautifully lyrical. I can't work out what the rest of it means though. What does it mean? |
OneRepublic – Come Home Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song makes me want to cry. It was playing in a sad moment on 'Gossip Girl' once and I was literally in tears. It's an amazing song, it evokes so much emotion. Obviously it's about a man who is in love with a woman, who he can't have and he's begging her to come home, and hoping. |
MGMT – Time to Pretend Lyrics | 16 years ago |
They pretend that to live fast and die young is the way to go and that they don't care about anything. They're fated to pretend it's all ok, shooting heroin and forgetting their mother. Then at the end they wish they hadn't done it. |
Frank Sinatra – I'll Be Seeing You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The song is about a woman whose husband has died in war. Or wife, depending on whether it's a man or woman singing. |
Citizen Cope – Son's Gonna Rise Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is so awesome. |
OneRepublic – Stop and Stare Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't really see the implications that it's about being gay...it's about being stuck in one place and wanting to be somewhere else 'you start to wonder why you're here not there' 'I think i'm moving but I go nowhere.' He wants to move on to something, but isn't sure how. That could be 'coming out' but I it could be also about a heap of other things. |
Don McLean – American Pie Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Lenin/Lennon is supposed to have a double meaning of both those people. |
Don McLean – American Pie Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I interpret this song as just about the loss of innocence generally, in all way. |
Billie Holiday – I'll Be Seeing You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's about a woman whose husband dies in WW2. Or the woman is singing. |
Boney M – Rasputin Lyrics | 16 years ago |
oops! I forgot I had posted here already. lol |
Boney M – Rasputin Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Rasputin, he was pretty scary looking http://www.alexanderpalace.org/gilliard/images/rasputin2.jpeg And It was def. the World War One, not the Russo-Japanese war. And The Empress did not have a sexual relationship with Rasputin. |
Boney M – Rasputin Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Oh yeah, and it was World War One that the Czar went of too, not the Russo-Japanse war of 1905. |
Boney M – Rasputin Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yeah, the heir to the throne had hemophilia. The Czarina constantly worried that he'd fall and die, and Rasputin was a holy man who could supposedly heal him. The Czar went away to war, leaving The Czarina in charge of Russia. He basically told her everything to do, ruling Russia. It is not believed at all that The Czarina and Rasputin had any sort of physical relationship for many reasons, but it does well in the song. |
Malcolm Mclaren – About Her Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Yeah, I think it's about a girl who's really screwed up, and hurt the person she loves. And 'she's not there' as in he doesn't love her anymore. |
Men at Work – Down Under Lyrics | 17 years ago |
omg this is like my favourite song ever. I don't think it has any deep meaning, it's just about an Australian guy traveling around Europe. People are like 'Oh you come from Australia?' |
Billy Joel – Vienna Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Vienna is in Austria, and I always interpreted it as telling someone to slow down and enjoy life 'Vienna waits for you' I think means, go enjoy the world, go to Vienna, 'you can afford to lose a day or too' there's no need to rush through life. But he wrote it for his dad who survived the Holocaust? wow. |
Fergie – Mary Jane Shoes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think it actually is about shoes though, because Mary Jane is a shoe brand. |
Fergie – Mary Jane Shoes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love this song |
Kate Bush – The Red Shoes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The film is my all time favorite movie. The song and the film are based on the Hans Christian Anderson fairytale in which a girl puts on a pair of red hoes that keep her dancing until she falls down dead. |
Sneaky Sound System – UFO Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's not about believers, it's about being lonley. The person saw a UFO, but nobody is close enough to him to believe him. |
