The Smashing Pumpkins – Glynis Lyrics | 15 years ago |
you can listen to this song on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbGV6ZiLXi0 |
Dire Straits – Romeo And Juliet Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think it's "there's a place for us in all the movie songs" and "all i do is keep the beat and the band company" "all i do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme" |
The Sea and Cake – Parasol Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i agree. anyone who hasn't heard this song needs to look it up immediately. |
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Mercy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
sad but it's a beautiful song. i think it's about losing hope |
Wolf Parade – This Heart's on Fire Lyrics | 16 years ago |
it's definitely "sometimes WE rock and roll" in both verses, "i HELD my mother's HAND" (makes sense as she was dying) and "i'd rather stay at home AND FEEL ALIVE" |
U2 – 40 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i don't see how U2's songs are blasphemy- you have the right to post your opinion on here and they have the right to sing about whatever they want. what i find offensive as a non-Christian is your preaching on a website that is supposed to be about music. |
Sleater-Kinney – Modern Girl Lyrics | 16 years ago |
ok i don't mean this in a negative way because i really like this song but the music at the beginning is so beautiful that her voice comes in kind of harsh and ruins it a little bit. the line "my whole life is like a picture of a sunny day" is beautiful though |
PJ Harvey – The Piano Lyrics | 16 years ago |
missing someone, obviously but the lyrics and the way it sounds hints at a darker meaning. she seems to be haunted (either literally or figuratively) by the ghost of someone who's been murdered. |
PJ Harvey – The Mountain Lyrics | 16 years ago |
pretty straightforward lyrics, betrayal and a resulting broken heart. |
PJ Harvey – Rid of Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
its about obsession over someone maybe who cheated on her ("don't you wish you had never met her?") |
PJ Harvey – A Perfect Day Elise Lyrics | 16 years ago |
to me it sounds like "joe" has fallen in love with either a prostitute or a woman who wants nothing to do with him except sex. he lets himself back in room 509, though, so maybe he goes back... to kill her? to commit suicide? or just to convince her that he loves her by saying "its" a perfect day. on the other hand it could be the woman telling herself it's a perfect day to assure herself that she made the right decision in leaving him. |

PJ Harvey – The Devil Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think the devil is a metaphor for depression, that however far away she gets from it it manages to find her ("wander into my soul") again. the "come here at once" part sounds like she is calling for the person she is "pining" for to come save her. the last stanza goes along with the depression, what once made her happy now has no effect. |

Tori Amos – Cornflake Girl Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this is my favorite song of hers because she always seems to keep her voice restrained to a lower pitch and when she sings "you bet your life it is" it goes a lot higher, sort of like kate bush. i think this song is about the catty and manipulative social games girls play, forming cliques and choosing sides, excluding people, ect. not only as children but also about how that dynamic continues in high school. not really on the topic but it's so weird that she says "rabbit, where'd you put the keys girl" because rabbit is my nickname! |
This Mortal Coil – Song Of The Siren Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think its "were you here when i was false" |
The National – Abel Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i always thought he was saying "my mind's not ready". it seems like abel's trying to drive off somewhere and the panic in the singer's voice makes me think the subject matter is dark. like suicide, like abel drives off and his friends follow him in time to see him jumping off the bridge into the water. and then the person saying "turn around, take me back... i can't calm down" and "my mind's not ready" is his friend, who isn't prepared to accept what he has just seen. |
Menomena – Rose Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this is what i hear: "my beds are always empty if you don't count the ghosts cause i have those aplenty and his name is rose its name is rose so dear rose, is home this sack of skin? or is home somewhere i've been so i can trace back my tracks i can trace back my tracks romance in me is dwindling should i be wanting it back? so i can trace back my tracks i can trace back i need some of that wonder bread my blood, dark red some things not said, not said" its hard to tell what this song is about. at first i thought he was someone haunted by the ghost of rose, but after listening to it again i think he might be the ghost. he could be recalling that his name was rose, but since ghosts walk outside of their body he refers to himself in the third person (his name is rose). the second time he says its name is rose, as if confused at trying to remember who he was in life. wonderbread represents the normalcy (sp.?) which, as a ghost, he craves. the part about dark red blood could be a memory of his death or a longing for being mortal again. i think instead of meaning romance literally, since no one else is mentioned in the song, he means that he is becoming disenchanted with his existence and watches his interest in his life fade while wondering if he should pursue it. some things not said= regrets. he is asking rose, or himself when he was alive, what home is, whether his existence lay in his physical body, or if he returns to the places he lived, could he recapture what it meant to be alive? sry for the long explanation. this is an amazing song, especially the second verse. |
Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton – Crowd Surf off a Cliff Lyrics | 16 years ago |
JaysonLaser, the soft skeleton is the rest of the band. its emily haines and the soft skeleton. |
Band of Horses – I Lost My Dingle on the Red Line Lyrics | 16 years ago |
it always sucks when you lose your dingle |
Handsome Furs – Hearts of Iron Lyrics | 16 years ago |
actually, he might be saying "when did we go home in hearts of iron" |
Handsome Furs – Hearts of Iron Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this is what i heard: six eggs were gold and one was iron i broke them all and left you lying in bed one bed of moss, very very small you thought the sea could make her belly swell in a bad dream you wake and pace the hallway spitting gold seeds there's iron brothers my life's a dream nothing matters at all at all, at all nothing matters at all at all, at all la la la la la la la la when did we grow cold in hearts of iron when did we grow old in hearts of iron baby when did we grow old in hearts of iron *he either says old or cold. i think the "baby" part is him talking to his wife/girlfriend, asking her when did they get either old or cold |
Kevin Drew – Lucky Ones Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this is the rest: i meant to tell you that you are not mislead ooh and i know we're gonna be the lucky ones that's just what i heard but mnlwnd and clockwrist could be right too, probably some combination of the different things everyone heard. it's pretty impossible to guess at the meaning because these lyrics could be interpreted in a lot of ways but maybe something about salvation, not necessarily in a religious way |
Kevin Drew – Lucky Ones Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this is what i hear: well every time they took me to the rise of your bed you know i try to do it at the top of your head but all my little words that came down like the smiles trick them to the morphine try to make them cry but i don't expect to suggest that we're through you know i can live without you if you do but tell me that the temperature's rising in your head tell me the blood is not to be mislead all these little boys coming through the cracks trying to pick up with ease, falling from the stars i can see the broken fences lying down on the yard green like the mom that said 'i never was retired' i know, i know, i know it's true all the things you thought about what you could do when the clouds separate in comes the sun heard it through a song that a girl once sung she's the reason why i'm trying to make it all right trying to drive through the cold wishing tonight all my life was sad i've got the moon in my hands try to be a stereotype with a plan but mom is the god and my god is love that's why i do it all the things to be above (?) don't you expect to make a phone call tonight treat me like a motherfucker who is right ooh and i know we're gonna need a lucky one everytime the future comes into my past i know you should sleep about things that won't last i have got a cause and never (?) took a tatoo and try to make a new friend but you can see the ivy coming up in the glass everyone speaks about something that passed but i don't which side that i can believe in take me to your bed and show me some treason i can pay the phone bills you will hold try to fill you in where there is no one alone you're the one i got that tried to make a friend i'll do the rest later g2g |
Tom Petty – Walls Lyrics | 16 years ago |
bright eyes often covers this in concert |
Bright Eyes – Lover I Don't Have to Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
in concert concert said this song was about casual sex, which he "highly recommends". he also said "you will. you will" is the opposite of "lover i don't have to love" |
Kate Bush – Wuthering Heights Lyrics | 16 years ago |
the first time i heard this song i was kind of taken aback by how high kate's voice is but i listened to it a few times and i think it's really pretty and cathartic. as for the meaning it's pretty self-explanatory- wuthering heights, heathcliff and cathy. werru, not only do you not have the "sensitivity and intelligence" to spell 'shakespeare,' you shouldn't be surprised when people are discussing the book's plot and characters on a site called songMEANINGS under the song called WUTHERING HEIGHTS. wow |
The Knife – Heartbeats Lyrics | 16 years ago |
amazing song! i think this one can't really be compared with Jose Gonzalez's version- they are both good, just really different. |

Regina Spektor – Fidelity Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think it's about being cheated on by the person she's in love with (fidelity) and having everything remind her of it (i hear in my mind, in music, ect. and it breaks my heart) |
Devendra Banhart – Carmensita Lyrics | 16 years ago |
it's hard to say what it means. it mentions colors, elephants, three polka dot eyes, and a "colorado beard" |
Devendra Banhart – The Beatles Lyrics | 16 years ago |
in english the last two verses mean something like: rickitickiricki sings the troubador like the fat flower that doesn't have flavor life is as rich as love kill the bull don't kill the bullfighter if i listen to Donovan if i listen to Marc Bolan if i listen to Ben Chasny i like the Six Organs (this may be a little off i'm still taking spanish) |

Supergrass – Alright Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this is an amazing song. although i think in this case feeling alright means feeling good, not okay. because of the drug references it captures the feeling of walking around with your friends drunk or high and laughing at everything. |
Ramones – Teenage Lobotomy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
the cerebellum is the part of the brain that controls movement |
The Stills – Helicopters Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think it's "and the cracked skin peeled" |
The Subways – No Goodbyes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i always thought it was "a single man can't be wasted" |
Bruce Springsteen – Your Own Worst Enemy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
it sounds christmas-like. i like it! |
of Montreal – Tim I Wish You Were Born a Girl Lyrics | 16 years ago |
is it weird that this song makes me cry? |
Kevin Drew – Broke Me Up Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think it's: waiting hours and hours of fights ... texture like the mormon cries (?) i'll only be in parks if you were me ... shouting back ... good job deciphering the lyrics though |
Clinic – Distortions Lyrics | 16 years ago |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b7R5HeLBEY. arcade fire covered this song. pretty amazing :) |
Silversun Pickups – Lazy Eye Lyrics | 16 years ago |
johansolo, it could still be about losing your virginity, which isn't always a positive thing imo. basically i think it could be about anything that didn't happen the way you thought it would. like maybe he has liked someone for a long time and then when he finally tries to talk to them he ends up looking like an idiot. |
The Thermals – I Might Need You To Kill Lyrics | 16 years ago |
cite should be sight |
Sonic Youth – Do You Believe In Rapture? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
whether or not it is the best song on rather ripped is an opinion, not a fact, thecrticfl. i think it could be about bush/america too: i.e. "stand behind his drunken imp"- the number of people supporting bush, "hear him yell of blood and war"- war in Iraq, "do you believe in second chance?"- bush being re-elected. i think the part starting at 1:51 is really pretty, and the line "can you tell me what to feel?" |
Bonnie Tyler – Total Eclipse of the Heart Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i wonder if this is where conor oberst got the name bright eyes. imo the guster cover is better though, even though this is the original. |
The National – Friend of Mine Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"I don't care what you're into I'll put velvet ropes around you, if that's what you need" protectiveness. i think that line is kind of sweet in a strange way. as far as the balloon man, i have no idea. |

Bright Eyes – The City Has Sex Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this reminds me of sex and the city, of course! |
Bright Eyes – Make a Plan to Love Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
