Cat Stevens – Moonshadow Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I think this song is about how we are all stalked by the dark possibility of tragedy (followed by a moon shadow) but he has decided that he won't let it it oppress him. In fact he plays with it (leaping and hoping on a moon shadow) by finding something freeing in any tragedy (the rest of the song). |
Poe – Center Of The Sun Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Yes, the girl is a prostitute that hates what she does or atleast hates what is done to her. This song belongs to poe. Anyone who knows her work and Conjure One's work can immediately see that she was the main creative force behind it. |
Mindless Self Indulgence – Shut Me Up Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It is about censorship. For example, I can't wait for you to shut me up And make me hip like badass Is a reference to how some counter-culture artists only become popular after someone tries to censor them. Then they become the forbiden fruit that everyone wants. |
Shriekback – Nemesis Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think part of the lyric is wrong "God is not mocked, he IS our business". This is a direct shot at the hypocrisy and mercenary nature of organized religion. |
Shriekback – Nemesis Lyrics | 16 years ago |
To me this song has always been about the seductive evil of power. How the primitive emerges in the pretense of civilization. And how we have become those decadent empires of the past that we so like to despise. the most telling part is this paragraph. We feel like Greeks, we feel like Romans Centaurs and monkeys just cluster round us We drink elixirs that we refine From the juices of the dying We are no monsters, we're moral people And yet we have the strength to do this This is the splendour of our achievement Call in the airstrike with a poison kiss |
Men at Work – Down Under Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The meaning of this song is clear to me and best captured in the chorus. "Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover." This song was written in the 80's when the nuclear cowboy "Ronald Reagan" was president. This man was building mass of new more powerful and dangerous nukes when the nuclear arsenals would destroy the world over by several time. He was also cracking jokes about nuking the Soviets Union. No one but him was laughing. In this song the singer is an aussie wandering the world encountering all sorts of outrageous charecters. But what they all have in common is that the are australian emigrants that are wondering if it is time to run back to australia to hide from the impending nuclear holocaust. |
Imogen Heap – Missing You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
lol, imogen heap is not a transvestite though I think she has marfan's syndrome which is the same genetic disorder that lincoln had. I have perfect pitch and that is imogens voice. She has an extraordinary range high and low. The high end of the register is way too high for almost all guys. |
Frou Frou – Maddening Shroud Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Oh yeah, she starts the song with die, dee, die, dee, die. "DIE" get it! |
Frou Frou – Maddening Shroud Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I still think this song is about suicide or more poetically the parallel between giving up on a relationship and giving up on life. The allusion to shroud reminds me of the concept of the mortal coil or the funeral shroud. That is why I don't think it is just about a failing relationship. The maddening shroud makes me think of how life can envelope you with its insanity. Her statements like "sometimes i feel my life's in vain maybe its time for me to pack it in maybe its time for me to jack it in maybe its time for me to halt" Sound much more fatalistic yjan a failing rlationship. |
Poe – Trigger Happy Jack (Drive by a Go-Go) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is very clear to me. It is about an abusive relationship with a person with borderline personality disorder. "Nothing more sadistic than an infant than a gun" is about their innocent emotional violence, "can't talk to a psycho like a normal human being" is about how they will twist anything you say into an emotional crisis, "And he looks at me like a prince. But i know i better bit the bullet Cause it's jsut another one of his Jedi mind tricks. " is about their guiless charm in the interludes between thier melt downs. I am sure about this one folks, probably more sure than even POE. |
Poe – Choking The Cherry Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song has me more confused than most. My best guess is that it is about sexual frustration or more specifically her frustration and ambivalance about losing her virginity to some specific guy. I say this in the context of the song "not a virgin anymore" and some interview material that indicates she lost her virginity later than most. Still this idea doesn't quite fit with all the lyrics. |
