The Unicorns – Do the Knife Fight Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This is such a fun song! Makes me wanna dance and climb mountains and things |
Radiohead – Optimistic Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this song is probably the best showcase of radiohead's genius than any other. the whole thing is a sarcastic parody of the idea of optimism: "If you try the best you can The best you can is good enough" this is what people say, when in reality you could do your best and still come out on bottom. just doing your best and being optimistic is no guarantee that things will be OK. "The big fish eat the little ones The big fish eat the little ones Not my problem give me some" in other words, just as the daily struggles of the fish are meaningless to us, our daily struggles are also ultimately meaningless, and it makes no difference to the world whether you succeed or fail, or "get eaten by bigger fish" "This one's optimistic This one went to market This one just came out of the swamp This one dropped a payload Fodder for the animals Living on an animal farm" here it's almost like Thom is imagining the world from an alien's point of view - this one is optimistic, as though optimism were just another trait that the person has, and it ultimately has no real effect on anything. **** this is where the genius really comes in. the way he says that last line makes it form the beginning of the nursery rhyme about the pigs ("this one went to market...."). in other words, nursery rhyme = nice little lies that are told to make children feel good. THEN, at the same time as all that, a third meaning is apparent, when he mentions Animal Farm. Animal Farm was an allegory for Communism (ie, do what work you can, and you'll be ok even if that work is not very good) "Nervous messed up marionette Floating around on a prison ship" by this he is clearly referring to humans as the marionettes - controlled like puppets by forces outside their control - located on a prison ship that they cannot escape from - Earth itself. "Dinosaurs roam the earth" another parody of optimism. the dinosaurs did their best to survive, but ultimately were wiped out by forces beyond their control. if optimism really worked this way, dinosaurs would still "roam the earth" because they did their best. |
Radiohead – On the Beach Lyrics | 16 years ago |
ive never even heard of this song...has it been released? |
The Verve – Bittersweet Symphony Lyrics | 16 years ago |
it's not exactly about "walking the road of life"....kinda but not really. it's really about the idea that life is hard, difficult (the bitter part) and generally not fun. but it is also amazing. life can have its high points, and those are often truly beautiful (the symphony part). it's about the fact that this seems like a contradiction, but it all just seems to work |

Lupe Fiasco – Superstar Lyrics | 16 years ago |
normally i'm not a big fan of hiphop, but this is really an exceptional song |
Radiohead – Reckoner Lyrics | 16 years ago |
has anyone heard the original version? it's got completely different lyrics and it's much heavier. |
NOFX – Scavenger Type Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i really like this song a lot. I think it's about a poor man who lives in california and is on welfare. he might have alcohol problems, not sure. the welfare money isn't consistent and as it gets cold, he can't pay for heating, and dies. |
Radiohead – Reckoner Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think that this song is about trading on the stock marker, and how people who do that don't do anything useful in the world but make millions of dollars. for example: "reckoner", as in, someone who reckons, like on the stock marker "you can't take it with you", in reference to the money they make. "We separate like ripples on a blank shore", we separate like waves into the poor and the rich, even though there is really no difference between us. |
Soulja Boy – Crank That (Soulja Boy) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this song sucks soooo bad, except the remix with Travis Barker drumming to it is realllly good. now when i listen to the original it just sounds like a song that with the drumming cut out. |
The Used – Liar Liar (Burn in Hell) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
ah i'm really not liking this album for some reason. In Love and Death was really good and it just clicked, but this one.....it's wayyyy over produced, and it sounds so...forced or something. like they went into it with too much confidence and just went the wrong way. =\ |
The Used – Hospital Lyrics | 16 years ago |
jesus christ would everyone stop trying to make connections to mcr? nobody cares! you all may find it fascinating when people have falling outs and whatever, but personally i couldn't care any less. I just like the music and i don't want to know anything about the people that make it, so just shut the fuck up already |
Radiohead – The National Anthem Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this song is fucking AMAZING i love how its so experimental and just....incredible the sampling of trumpets....they way they start in the background and slowly become the main sound....they way they individually are chaotic but work together in a cohesive way.....kind of like democracy (it IS the naitonal anthem, after all)....it's just incredible. Thom Yorke is GOD |
Radiohead – Fitter Happier Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i remember reading that Thom originally planned to read the words himself, but found it even more effective and haunting when it was read by that word processing program on the old Mac computers. I would have to agree. It's obviously just describing the way life would be if it was all run by machines to be technically perfect but unfulfilling and inhuman -- the way it is increasingly becoming. |
Muse – Butterflies and Hurricanes Lyrics | 16 years ago |
well given that the album is about the end of the world and the various reactions to that, this song is about the reaction where some people would be thinking they have to become the best and rise up to take action in this impending apocalypse |
Radiohead – Optimistic Lyrics | 16 years ago |
this song is obviously just Thom ruminating on optimism. "The big fish eat the little ones, not my problem give me some" the big fish in the ocean eat the small ones, the little ones being optimistic that they'll survive, but to people all that struggle doesn't matter, the fish just get eaten anyway, so the optimism is pointless. "if you try the best you can, the best you can is good enough" this is how optimists think, when in reality, it doesn't matter. "this one's optimistic, this one went to market..." if you look at people as just little things that run around and do things, then being optimistic doesn't change a thing. ie. being optimistic and going to market...just things people do, none of them consequential in the end. in animal farm, the animals ran a communist system, in other words, try the best you can, and as long as you do your best, it's ok. This is sort of like optimism, ie "if you try the best you can...." "nervous messed up marionette, floating around on a prison ship." Here's where Thom's genius really shines. he's saying we're all like nervous messed up marionettes. like, we're all afraid of the future but hoping for the best, all the while controlled by events around us (a reference to determinism, perhaps?) just walking around on earth which we can never escape from....our prison...our inescapable future (another reference to determinism?) "if you try the best you can.....dinosaurs roaming the earth" again, Thom is providing a counterexample to the "try your best and everyting will be OK" doctrine. dinosaurs tried the best they could. they lived for millions of years, and look what happened to them -- they're all dead now. they did nothing to deserve it, but they still all died. optimism fails at explaing this. |
Thrice – In Years To Come Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is clearly about devotion and self-sacrifice. i noticed in The Odyssey there is a line "be brave, you too, so that men in times to come will speak well of you", and i think that's where the title comes from, except they changed "times" to "years" |
The Used – All That I've Got Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i'm not really sure what this one means, but if you think about it, the lines, "so deep that it didn't even bleed..." and "so deep that i didn't even scream fuck me" the first one seems to be about being stabbed, and the second is about sex....notice the "love vs death" duality....ie "in love and death", the album title |
Thrice – The Beltsville Crucible Lyrics | 16 years ago |
i think that everyone is overlooking the real meaning of the album at large. It's called "The Illusion of Safety" and that's exactly what it's about. each song examines a different aspect of life and how safety is really non-existent. This one is about how people take drugs and think nothing will happen, but they cannot be safe there either. At the end, however, he says "three thousand miles just to learn, how to let my guard down. accept the fire has spread among us. and if youre feeling alright, you've got to play it again". What dustin means is that he has come so far to learn to live in the absence of safety, but few people can see that "the fire has spread among us". then, in a moment of sheer brilliance, he finishes the album with the line "and if youre feeling alright, youve got to play it again", basically meaning that if you listened to this whole album and still feel fine, you missed the meaning, and should go listen to it again. |
Thrice – Firebreather Lyrics | 16 years ago |
it's confirmed now, firebreather is the title, and it's the first track off the Fire disc. CANT WAIT FOR THIS ALBUM! |
Thrice – Under A Killing Moon Lyrics | 16 years ago |
ok, so the meaning of this song is really obvious and the lyrics arent as cryptic and mermerizing as usual, but i just love this song especially at the end where he just shouts "BURNNNN" |
My Chemical Romance – The End. Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this is clearly about someone dying and nobody caring. i just wish it didnt cut off at the end like that. or maybe thats just me. idk |
Panic! at the Disco – Karma Police (Radiohead cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
how dare they do a cover of such a beautiful song. panic at the disco are not worthy to cover such a masterpiece. |
Fall Out Boy – This Ain't a Scene, It's an Arms Race Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i find it absolutely hilarious that fall out boy (probably the most coporately engineered and exploited band ever) is blatantly saying out loud how everyone buys their music and listens to it and repeats the lyrics simply because everyone else does it... AND THEN DO THE SAME THING WITH THIS SONG ex. they tell you "bandwagon's full, wait for another" theyre saying "so many people have bought this music because its the fad" and then people buy THIS VERY SONG, for the same reason decried in the song itself! and people are posting like "yeah i like how this is about punk pop bands" "no, it's about gangsters and hip hop" wrong. it's about you. |
The Smashing Pumpkins – A, Ab, E, B, F Lyrics | 17 years ago |
its not the length restriction, its the # sign. the site only supports certain segments of the ASCII code, and the # sign isnt included |
Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics | 17 years ago |
ive always thought of this song as being like an epic poem about a peasant boy in the 1600s who kills someone and is imprisoned by the king, but (not so clear on the end) escapes, possibly at the aid of an anrgy mob |
The Smashing Pumpkins – Cupid De Locke Lyrics | 17 years ago |
MCIS makes much more sense when listened to in the order that comes on the triple LP vinyl edition. this song is about falling in love, plain and simple |
The Smashing Pumpkins – Farewell and Goodnight Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i listened to MCIS all the way through, and it hit me that this song ends the album with the same piano piece that opened it. how perfect, for an album that is supposed to represent the cycle of life and death, to open and close with the same tune. anyway, i think this song is about dying, and saying goodbye to the one you love. its so beautiful |
The Smashing Pumpkins – Muzzle Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this is about how no matter what you do, the troubles and problems of the world will one day consume you. everyone will die, things fall apart, nothing is forever. all you can do is accept it, and live to the most you can. experience what's out there, before it or you is gone. |
NOFX – We March To The Beat Of An Indifferent Drum Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think the first 4 lines is one of NOFX's greatest moments |
800 Octane – Brand New Faces Lyrics | 17 years ago |
christ.....where the hell are all the lyrics?! |
NOFX – Thank God It's Monday Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song is great...the first NOFX i ever heard however, the lyrics are a bit mangled. he's not saying "thank god it's our army", it's "thank god for irony" and where are the background vocals? they make up a good portion of the song btw, its about being a musician, and how your schedule is backwards from what everyone else's is |
Zebrahead – Falling Apart Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i love how right when he says "everything's falling apart", everything pauses but the vocals and then slams back in. amazing. |
Good Riddance – There's No "I" In Team Lyrics | 17 years ago |
We havent got the luxury Of neutral oberservation 'Cause when its said and done We stand or fall as one WOW! those are incredible lyrics! |
Good Riddance – 30 Day Wonder Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think the title refers to the first gulf war, which lasted about 30 days |
Strike Anywhere – Laughter In a Police State Lyrics | 17 years ago |
wow...this is fantastic |
NOFX – Medio-Core Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song is so great. it just reminds me how impressed i am with NOFX. |
NOFX – Medio-Core Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song is so great. it just reminds me how impressed i am with NOFX. |
Rage Against the Machine – Killing In The Name Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song is ok, though a little repetitive for my taste |
Rage Against the Machine – War Within a Breath Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i think when they say "everything can change on a new year's day" it's a reference to the U2 song New Year's Day which says "nothing changes on new year's day" |
Rage Against the Machine – New Millennium Homes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i doubt zack's saying "as the wheat grows strong" it makes more sense as "as the weak grow strong" |
The Suicide Machines – Hey! Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i love how the singer rolls syllables together so they become something unintelligible yet still following the tune. |
The Suicide Machines – Steal This Record Lyrics | 17 years ago |
why isn't anyone commenting on the machines' stuff? they rock! anyway, the meaning here is very straightforward. |
The Suicide Machines – I Hate Everything Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this song is so cool.....its just about being pissed off, plain and simple |
NOFX – Reeko Lyrics | 17 years ago |
i love this song, but i'm clueless as to what the title means |
Propagandhi – Allbright Monument, Bagdhad Lyrics | 17 years ago |
they did it again! they nailed the issue straight on with devastatingly eloquent lyrics that evoke amazingly descriptive images. |
Propagandhi – A People's History Of The World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
they hit it so dead on in this song.....its perfect. i couldn't imagine it said any better. |
The Suicide Machines – Bleeding Heart Lyrics | 17 years ago |
there's something at the end of the song....it's played backwards and followed by a short part spoken forwards |
NOFX – Bleeding Heart Disease Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this is such a great song |
Pennywise – God Save The USA Lyrics | 17 years ago |
this is a great song, but whoever took these lyrics down got it all wrong. and why isn't the part where the voice is talking in the background included? that's practically the best part |
