I did not know what this was about at first but now listening to it and looking at the lyrics (if these are in fact accurate) I think this song might be about a long distance relationship where both people only communicate through some form of telecommunications possibly skype or something. I mean I think this part of the song says it all "Is it far away In the glitter freeze? Or in our eyes, every time they meet? It's by the light of the plasma screens We keep switched on All through the night While we sleep." The only point of connection may be this means of communication and as such their relationship is sort of broken hence the name. |

pilispring seems to be dead on about the underlying themes from 1984 I have listened to the album several times now and thematically it kind of strikes me as "1984" meets "2112"(Rush). The entire first portion of the album dealing with the society presented in 1984 and then a transition on exogenisis to the same sort of themes that 2112 ended on that is human colonies out in space unrelated to the government controling earth really being the last best hope for humanity. I realize this has nothing to do with this song but I saw a few comments in here that I thought I need to put my input on. Possibilities for this songs meaning I think that activelymovingaround may be onto something with the concept of eugenics playing into the theme I kinda remember in 1984 that the government had tried to control reproduction which was a big part of why love was outlawed in their society, which is the theme of the song "resistance". Also it seems that the line I "wanna push it beyond the peaceful protest" may not be the speakers internal desire because he follows it up with the statement "I wanna speak in a language that you will understand" so maybe this is talking about wanting to be able to relate to some one who only understands violence. any way I am new to Muse so I am not really all that up on the themes of previous albums if there where themes (i.e. Concept Albums), and this is just my opinion. P.S. there is no way this has anything to do with American politics if anything, beyond the politics of 1984, it has to do with European politics as the Band is from Europe. |

I disagree with the title and I think Spyder does too as he shouts this ain't a song about noting through out the song, I think that was his intention. I think it is a commentary on how brainless celebs and pop culture has become (and probably always was) and how vacuous consumers of pop culture are. It may be about the dangers of being vacuous in such a chaotic world. This is only speculation at this point but if this album ever turns out to have anything to do with Year Zero and I am not saying it is, (Really it feels more akin to the The Downward Spiral and The Fragile Lyrically) Maybe it has something to do with the ARG Web site Hour of Arrival and the song cold be from the father's point of view regretting the fact that he will never see his Daughter/Son. That is If this album is at all tied to year zero. Too me the album seems to be about someone going insane but it could have something to do with year zero given the fact that the AIR/OSR Flag was used in the art packaged with the album. Something tells me we won't know until the concerts this summer. |

Zeitgeist does not suck I think it is a pretty pertinent album it may not be like the other smashing pumpkins albums but it is a lot better than allot of the other crap that they call music anymore. And the album lives up to it's title Zeitgeist which is a German word which means spirit of the times. If any of the songs are about celebrity or are related to the Paris Hilton picture in the book I think it is this song. It is about an unhealthy obsession or love. In the lyrics the sinister alteration to the idea of falling in love, "fall in hate with me".I think the song is simply talking about in the modern era how we are getting our concepts of love and hate mixed up and more and more the concepts of love and violence are getting sickeningly intertwined. Thats just a thought I have no Idea what the song really means but I thought I would put my interpretation down here because I really have started to like this album. |

Considering that he mentions a blurring of lines in with teeth, a song which is most likely about his struggle with drugs could this be about a relapse. I would say that it could also work as a semi political song considering that Year Zero is totally political. It could be about how confusing it is today because no politican today will ever tell the truth DEMOCRAT or REPUBLICAN, their both too busy fighting each other leaving the average citizen confused as to who they really believe or why they really care. |
