this song is in no way a reference to Bruce Springsteens "Dancing in the dark" seeing as that song was not released until 1984 and Blue was released in 1971. I love the simplicity of the lyrics,,,yet they convey so much emotion, the joy of a carefree and loving relationship, but also with the touch of loneliness that pervades so much of this album. |

| I think this is a great song and I am wonderng about the connection to Place Pigalle in Seattle and whether Elliott titled the song this way because Place Pigalle is right on the waterfront of Elliott Bay in Seattle. this song is obviously about Kurt Cobain which Mary Lou Lord claims to have had a relationship/friendship with him. The first lines Song about a sun beam Song about a girl are obvious references to Nirvana songs "Jesus dont want me for a sunbeam" and "About a girl" references to Seattle and Drugs are also key giveaways. I like this song and the homage to Bob Dylans Mr Tamborine man are great, Its a sad testament to a broken friendship or an old life and how hard it is to let go. |

I always thought this song was written for Joni Mitchell, although I am probably wrong in my dates but the line where he says "..please see if her hair hangs long if it rolls and flows all down her breast.." that line reminds me of both sides now, and since Joni was from Canada (and so am I ) I always thought maybe his north country line was a reference to Canada. All in all it's simply a great song, one of my favorites from Dylan. |

| I think this song is about futility..we get past the foothills which are populated with the things that get in our way, simple distractions like the media and organized religion so we are trying to get to the plateau (a higher consciousness? fame? or just something different?, thinking there actually might be something to gain from our hard work. but after scaling the face we see that there is just more work so we try to better the surroundings, trying to cleanse our "environment" some people are happy where they are in life and the work they have done, so they stay where they are. Some are never satisfied with what they have achieved, they need another challenge so they look for something else to attain to. | |
