Foo Fighters – Good Grief Lyrics 16 years ago
I think scottyp has the best interpretation of the song here that I see.

I'd have to say I agree, I won't comment any further on trying to dissect it because it's already been done, but I just always think about what Dave had just gone through before making this album... and although some of the songs were written before Kurt's death, others came afterwards....

I just love the rawness and emotion of this album, Dave has said he did it as a way of healing. Someone else commented that they didn't like this album because it's not like Foo's later albums... but honestly, I'm not a big fan of their albums after The Color and the Shape... and none compare to this one, in my opinion. Dave is a genius, and I love that every note on it is played by him. (Except for the solo on X-Static of course ;)

Weezer – Across The Sea Lyrics 16 years ago
Very funny...^

You do know he's married now, right?

This part:

"At 10 I shaved my head and tried to be a monk
I thought the older women would like me if I did"

I think is just thrown in there for humor... but that's just me. The other bit a harder to explain... and I honestly have no clue.

"You see, ma, I'm a good little boy
It's all your fault, momma, it's all your fault"

I really don't think it's that he's saying he wasn't loved as a child... because Rivers has talked about many times how wonderful his childhood was... he was raised on an Ashram for a large part of his early life and describes it as an environment of constant love and encouragement.

Weezer – Glorious Day Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is so fucking awesome. It actually inspired me in High School to go for this chick I really liked, and it totally worked out for me, I just went for it. I LOVE this song. It just totally fucking rocks.

If you guys like the Green Album, River's actually had alot of demos and b-sides for The Green Album. There's a ton of songs that didn't make it on the album but were recorded in the studio and have found their way online.

If you're interested, use these two sites for rares, demos, and other cool stuff that hasn't been officially released. Green Album demos are under the "Album 3 Demos":

http://www.weerez.com
http://www.weezernation.com

And, if you want all of the stuff at the above two, PLUS all their official studio releases and EPs, go here:

http://fenix.dreamhosters.com/weezer/Maladroit%20(Demos%20&%20Mixes)/

I personally suggest 'The Kitchen Tapes' and 'The Real Blue Album Demos' for downloading. Both are rawer and slightly different versions of the songs on the Blue Album. Very kick ass, I love Weezers much more abrasive vocals and the diff guitar solo on The World Has Turned.

Enjoy guys! Weezer is incredible, And although I really don't dig all that much on Make Believe, Maladroit and the Green Album definetly get bashed on way too much. I'm glad you guys like it.

Weezer – Crab Lyrics 16 years ago
You guys have called it spot-on on the meaning of the song, a guy "crab"ing, or bitching and moaning at his girlfriend because she won't have sex with him.

As for neonicgreenslug's comment about where the song came from, I'm not sure, I actually just obtained every single Rivers and Weezer demo/bootleg/mix every recorded and has been leaked at one time or another, and I'm still in the process of checking out all of it.

If anyone else in interested, I used a torrent, but all this stuff can be obtained at the follwing places:

They're great albums, they're not sell-outs, they're making fun pop-rock the way they want to. Sure, Blue and Pinkerton are their best, but this stuff is Weezer just as much as the old stuff is.

The Rentals – Barcelona Lyrics 16 years ago
I really can't stand this version of the song. "California" sounds so much better to my ears, but then, I'm much more partial to the early 90s Rentals/Weezer sound than their later work.

I enjoy Seven More Minutes, but I'm sorry, the way Matt sings the lyrics on this song annoy the shit out of me, although I do like the chorus. (NOT nearly as much as "California"'s chrous though.)

This was actually originally a Weezer demo.

Also of note, Matt Sharp eventually re-wrote the lyrics of the song and added synthesizers for The Rentals 1997 album, Seven More Minutes. Instead of "California", the track was changed to "Barcelona". Look it up on here for more lyric info.

Personally, this version kicks much more ass than the "Barcelona" version.

Sorry to keep posting, but another fun tidbit about Kurt's being homeless:

After returning home to Olympia after recording Nevermind, Kurt had been evicted from his apartment for not paying his rent on time. He ended up sleeping in his car!

Do you guys see the irony and almost perfect metaphor for Kurt's whole troubled life in that? After returning from recording an album that would change the world and make the band superstars, Kurt was sleeping in his car, homeless.

Nirvana – Something in the Way Lyrics 17 years ago
oh, and Kurt did not freaking trap animals, you idiots.

Yes, Kurt was an animal lover. But the lyric in this song is a METAPHOR!! He's saying that he's so hungry he's trapping animals to kill and eat them, but that he's too sensitive to go through with it, and that he ends up keeping them as pets instead, further placing a burden on himself.

Come on, open your mind guys! Kurt's lyrics are beautiful and one of a kind BECAUSE they are abstract and metaphorical. Of course Kurt wrote about his real feelings and experiences, but he hid it alot better than this people. He very rarely wrote a totally literal song, except for Sliver. (Which is a true story.)

You see? The song that is actually a true story is about going to his grandparents house. Pretty normal, just like anyone else. Don't you guys get the point? Kurt was a one of a kind and gift to this world for the short time he was around, but he was human and he was just like everyone else. Not every part of his life was this fantastic tragedy like sleeping under a bridge in Aberdeen, lol.

If you want to know where Kurt actually slept when he was homeless, like I said, READ HEAVIER THAN HEAVEN! But, I'll go ahead and tell you, it was friends houses, and when that didn't work, friends porches, Apartment building hallways, and the waiting room in the local hospital.

Yeah summer_nostalgia, it was actually an old stella with 5 strings. Krist, Dave, and a cello player that was brought in ALL had trouble tuning to match Kurt's piece of crap guitar, lol.

For those of you still spouting BS, KURT DID NOT LIVE UNDER A BRIDGE!!!!!!!! Yes, Krist and Dave named the live album that because THEY ARE FROM THE MUDDY BANKS OF THE WISHKAH!

I repeat here people, Krist has said it himself. THAT WAS IMBELISHMENT ON KURTS PART! He did that often when he told stories, he changed the facts. Read Heavier Than Heaven to hear all about his contradictions. (Like that his first rock show he even attended was Black Flag, when it was infact Sammy Hagar). KURT COULD NOT HAVE SLEPT UNDER THAT BRIDGE!!!!!!!!!! The Wishkah River runs right into the Pacific Ocean, people, look at a freaking map. The Tides rise in the river, and if Kurt had slept down there, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN WASHED AWAY DURING HIGH TIDE!

Geez people, research! If you're interested in Kurt, read Heavier Than Heaven! Then, I suggest Come As You Are, since it's an official band biography written with Kurts cooperation. It's just better to read Heavier Than Heaven FIRST, since you get the full facts about many stories that Courtney and Kurt smuged the facts on in Come As You Are.

and Mirza, you are right! Joe is an incredible guitar player and I've never heard him get props for it. The guitar in all Pixies song is just wonderful, but the guitar in 'Hey' is just classic.

Pixies – The Holiday Song Lyrics 17 years ago
I think every got it pretty it correct about this song. So not much for me to add.

scattered, I wasn't aware of that book, but I will definetly have to check it out in the future :D thanks.

Just wanted to add that the Pixies are so amazing. I'd have to agree with a comment I saw on Alec Eiffel, that many times art is not appreciated in it's time. Though it has gotten to the point where the Pixies are referenced as godfathers of alternative rock and all that, but still most people I know have never heard them. Black was just so creative and original, very much like Kurt Cobain ended up being later, a trait you know Black helped shape in Kurt, without even knowing it.

Also, I have a band who does little gigs around the local area, stuff like bars and clubs, and we almost always open with this song :D

Man, lol. Some people have it right on here some people don't.

This song was written by Kurt as almost a stab at his parents and family, telling them that this is where they have sent him, 'underneath the bridge'. Also, it was a methaphor for isolation and lonliness that all of us feel as adolscents.

It is NOT a true story. Kurt could not sleep underneath the bridge that he is referring to, as the Wishkah rivers tide rises and would wash him away!

Also, as a sidenote, Kurt recorded the Nevermind version of this lying on his back in Butch Vigs recording studio, playing his old beat up stella I believe.

They couldn't get the song right, so Kurt walked up to Butch as said 'This is how it should sound' and layed down on his back and started playing/singing. But was like 'Whoa, whoa, wait wait' and turned off everything in the whole place, put mics all around Kurt, and let him go at it. And it worked out beautifully.

No matter how sad some think this song is, I always get a chuckle out of imagining Kurt lying on his back and singing it, heh.

Foo Fighters – Exhausted Lyrics 17 years ago
Did you guys know that Kurt Cobain really loved this song? It was on the the demos Dave worked on during NIRVANA's down time. He played it for Kurt and he really liked it alot, he just wanted to write his own lyrics for it and make it a NIRVANA song. For some reason though, this never happened.

Also, Kurt really liked Alone an Easy Target, he liked the chorus alot. He wanted to make this a NIRVANA song as well, but this too, never happened.
