Tool – Schism Lyrics 17 years ago
This is the first song I heard by Tool, listening to it in a music store. When it was done, I asked the guy working the counter who it was, he told me Tool, and I bought Ænima and Lateralus right then. I went home, listened to both of them through like twice while reading bios and articles about them on Wikipedia(love it) and other sites. The next day I went and bought Opiate. I'm still a Zeppelin guy at the core, but of all newer stuff, Tool is easily top 10...

Blink-182 – Aliens Exist Lyrics 17 years ago
funny song, but if you "love this song", then you live a very meaningless life and you need to figure out that good songs are ones with a purpose beyond being a album filler/amusing song.

Vanessa Carlton – White Houses Lyrics 17 years ago
Lol... I don't really like this song but I have to admit its catchy. It's also a friend of mine's myspace song, which is funny because he's a decently big dude and he skates, surfs and all that jazz. You'd never expect him to listen to some of the stuff he does. He'll be the first to tell you, most played artist on his iPod, might just be the Spice Girls

Nirvana – Smells Like Teen Spirit Lyrics 17 years ago
Ok really quick, I don't want to waste all day here because it's simply not worth it. iamtheone (on the first page), your an idiot. Kurt wasn't even born when rock started and was a toddler when punk started to take root, so how the hell could he be the "Godfather" of either. Don't post if all you have to say are dumb comments about something that your totally uneducated about. In short, jump of a cliff kid, your an idiot.

Nirvana – Lithium Lyrics 17 years ago
P.S.- To all the bleeding hearts that posted before me, just because you have a condition doesn't mean you need to cry about it to people that you don't even know. Take your meds and live your life, pouring your heart out on a page just because it talks about being bi-polar isn't going to correct your chemical imbalances, it just makes your look like a wimp who can't handle life.

Nirvana – Lithium Lyrics 17 years ago
I have bi-polar and consequencely I take lithium. That being said, I don't think it's about the "ups and downs" of manic depression (bi-polar disorder) because the lithium helps control the mood swings. I think its more about being happy because the condition itself has gotten better, but knowing that it takes medicine to make you that way makes you feel dependant on something. A lot of times you don't think about it this way, but there are times when I hate the fact that I need to take a pill to stabalize my mood.
The line:

I'm so happy 'cause today
I've found my friends, they're in my head
Im so ugly, that's ok 'cause so are you

Seems to say that, he is happy, but he feels ashamed or different because of what it takes for him to be happy, when most people don't need assistance in making them feel "normal", This feeling of "unhappiness about being happy" is something that tends to make people's condition to worsen. And if Kurt really did kill himself (and I think that's a fair assumption), then this theory would explain why he was still unhappy while being treated for his disorder, so unhappy that he eventually ended his life.

Bob Dylan – All Along the Watchtower Lyrics 17 years ago
phuCKYouPUNKS11.. this is originally Dylan's creation.

But anyway I was just commenting on the Hendrix version and I think it's a bit funny how people call that one better. The folk sound is a wonderful element for this song, and while I love the Hendrix version, Dylan's rendition seems to do the trick, if you know what I mean.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – All Along the Watchtower (Bob Dylan cover) Lyrics 17 years ago
Ok, before I start, let it be known, I love Jimi. I think he was closer to a God then anything christians believe in (hehe). I also love his version of this song, it's so powerful. That being said, he didn't do this song "better", he did it in the more popular way. The Dylan version is amazing, too. His use of the harmonica is brilliant to say the least. And if you ask me, the lyrics suggest a folk story of sorts, so harmonica and acoustic kind of makes sense over the electric, hard rock sound Hendrix turned it into. Just my opinion...

Brand New – Soco Amaretto Lime Lyrics 17 years ago
First song I ever heard from them, and if it wasn't for it, I never would have considered listening to them. It's not my type of music at all but the lyrics are pretty well written, I had to admit. So even though the sounds of some of their other material isn't quite as pleasing at first glance, I figured I'd give it a listen and see what I thought because this was such a good song. I'm not a big fan of the whole screamo craze, I'd much rather listen to some hippy shit, classic rock or even a bit of old school rap. That being said, I can actually appreciate their work, and I think that's proof that they are a good band that has not just catchy songs but ones with meaning and purpose behind them...

Tool – Opiate Lyrics 17 years ago
Technically, no one has nailed what an opiate is, so I guess I'll post it anyway. An opiate isn't a drug itself, it's a category of drugs that are derived from opium poppy plants, from black tar opium to morphine and codeine... all of them. No to the song itself. It wasn't meant to brainwash people, and anyone who is had that effect on, seriously or just jokingly is a moron. A song thats about how the church brainwashes it's members and followers is clearly not going to aim to do the same thing to it's listeners. It's meant to open your eye to it, then decide for yourself if you're going to continue to follow (if you were a practicing member in the first place). If you want to "worship" a band and take everything the lyrics say, then go listen to Slipknot, Maggot. Tool is music for free thinking people, not idiots that blindly obey their idols. If I am correct in the general message of Tool's music and lyrics, that seems to be the exact type of thing they hate.

Chicago – 25 or 6 to 4 Lyrics 17 years ago
Boogiemenscott (on the first page) I see your point, and I can't come to a conclusion of whether it's song writing or drug usage. Every line that could be acid related could be used to show the struggle of writing aswell. But your refference to "Purple Haze" by Jimi Haze isn't really relevant because a)it's two different types of music, hardly able to be compared in any way and b) just because someone else was writing songs about drugs doesn't mean Chicago was and c) "Purple Haze", if it is really about drugs (Jimi claimed it was about a dream where he was walking on the ocean floor.), purple haze is a type of marijuana (good stuff too, hehe) so how can you relate it to a song that may be related to a different drug entirely.
Anyway, my take on it is maybe it's a mixture. I do a little writing (and I mean very little, not songs but short stories and such) and doing it while high can be a great experience where words just flow magically and you don't even feel like your thinking them. But other times, you get caught up on some stupid detail or thought and writing becomes a near impossible task. So my theory, maybe it was meant to have two possible meanings, because it's about both... just a thought...

Catch 22 – Keasbey Nights Lyrics 17 years ago
Yeah I'm with everyone... great song. I love ska as a genre of music. The attitude of the punk rock scene with the horns to pep it up is a great mixture. The only problem is, with the exception of these guys and a few local bands, I have trouble finding artists that I like within ska music. Most of them have decent cd's but just get to drunk and tripped out to perform half decently. It's frustrating because ska, as a genre, has so much potential. But it's wasted on mediocre musicians with no sense of how to have a successful band. If anyone has any bands they think I should check out let me know, i dig this music, but other than Catch22 I can't find people that play it the way it deserves to be.

Catch 22 – As The Footsteps Die Out Forever Lyrics 17 years ago
Wow... this song... I don't even know... it's amazing. So well done too. If more new songs actually had meaning like this one I wouldn't hate it as much. I saw the RxBandits a few days ago and it was awful, nothing they said was audible and it was so sloppy. I love that there are still bands that play good songs and play them well.

Led Zeppelin – Hats Off to (Roy) Harper Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm alot like Zoso71 actually, and i agree with him too. I'm 15, and haven't been listening to Zeppelin that long (around a year or a little more) and I must say that this song is not only one that gets me moving but it demonstrates so well their ability to go from genre to genre, not just in a career but even within an album. If I'm not mistaken, this is off of Zeppelin III, which also has Immigrant Song on it. If that isn't a demonstration of two way different music types displayed quite well on the same album, I don't know what is.

And to whoever said they didn't really like Pink Floyd, I have to ask, isn't hard rock supposed to be a little over the top? I mean, if it wasn't they'd call it country, and that's one genre of music I do NOT want to be a part of.

Nirvana – Come As You Are Lyrics 17 years ago
ownpersonaldemon (way back on the first page) I think thats so judgemental of you. I'm not about to say that I condone or recommend suicide, but Kurt was known to have a terrible case of manic depression. A lot of poeple with the condition, if not surrounded by people that can/want to help, become suicidal. So it's not a selfish act, it's a last resort of someone who saw no other way out. Don't be so quick to throw out your opinions on a subject that you clearly know nothing about, if you had a clue what it was like to be bi-polar or severely depressed... you wouldn't have those opinions.

Sublime – The Ballad Of Johnny Butt Lyrics 17 years ago
Good song, but if what juhnlaaa says is true... then I can't see what it's about. I mean it still could be about heroin addiction, but artists, real ones anyway(which Brad, Eric and Bud are), wouldn't sing a song about such a weighted topic if they didn't write it themselves. A meaningfull song about a personal struggle needs to be heartfelt to be done right. Maybe the drugs are just a metaphor for something a little less weighted as a topic. Or, maybe it's not about the writers personal addiction. If that's the case then I could see Sublime using it even if they didn't write it.

Sublime – Santeria Lyrics 17 years ago
I have to say I'm with possessedpath... I hate when people blame the stupid shit their kids or other peoples kids do on music. I mean yeah, some kid listening to rap might see the lifestyle "glorified" but still, in the moment when they choose to shoot someone or do/sell drugs, it's them making the decision, not the musician. If parents don't do their job to show their kids what's right and what isn't, that's the only time the are too impressionable and when music can effect decision making. And even then, the parents had more then enough chance to stop it. Most kids don't even listen to music other than what mom and dad have on until they are around seven or eight, by then, any sane child knows not to shoot people.

Van Halen – Runnin' With The Devil Lyrics 17 years ago
Mr. NoName and Helbound.. you couldn't be more right about 10west. I hate people that make rock and roll into the satanist bullshit. It's true, sometimes it is the subject matter, but Van Halen was not that kind of band at all. Your just making rock look bad when you mak everything about devil worship and crap. It bad enough that our musicians love sex and drugs, we don't need anymore bad publicity.

If it was border, the could just cross right? lol So yeah i don't think it's border because of context of other verses.

No way.. best part of this song is

Now follow as we riiide...
Mothafuck the rest, two of the best from the west side.

It so Tupac style... elongating words, slight pause, then back into ripping lyrics. It's what I've always loved about him, he can put suspence into songs, it's amazing

Ok, so there is supposedly a part in this song, according to the Slow Cheetah comments, where it mentions Bonnie Brae (the street in L.A.). I knew I've never heard it in the song before and I know it word for word so I came here to see if there was something I was missing, but it's not in these lyrics. Anyone have some insight???
