The Jimi Hendrix Experience – Burning of the Midnight Lamp Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm not so sure the "burning of the midnight lamp" refers to sleeping with a woman. If it's about loneliness, he's alone, which means he probably isn't with a woman. It is possible to feel lonely if you're sleeping with a woman you don't love I suppose, maybe even more lonely cuz you're not with one you want to be with. Anyways, I think the "burning of the midnight lamp" means that he's burning the midnight lamp which is the light that keeps him alive... 'til midnight, the light keeping the darkness away so he can live to another day. And I'm speaking metaphorically about the light and darkness... I'm not saying he's actually keeping the light on til midnight, lol.

Deep Purple – Child In Time Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm sure this is an anti-war song. I've grown up listening to this song, (off the Made In Japan album) and from a young age I've always thought the "blind man shooting at the world" was a metaphor for (not necessarily or specifically the US) but our world leaders who are fucking everything up. My dad has some Deep Purple DVDs and Ian Gillan talks about this song to the audience before they start playing it. He pretty much says it's a song about world affairs; of how it meant alot back when they wrote it, and of how it still has the same meaning now in the present.

Oh, for those of you who havn't heard the Made In Japan album, you MUST check this album out. The live version of Child In Time on that album is unlike anything you'll ever hear. Gillan's vocals on Child In Time are just out of this world... Nothing tops him. He puts Robert Plant to shame. If you don't believe me than check it out.

The Jimi Hendrix Experience – 1983 ... (A Merman I Should Turn to Be) Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm almost positive that this is nothing but a daydream Jimi had... Probably when he was on an acid trip. It's like a Sci-Fi story written and told by Jimi with music to back it up and add emotion. It's great.

Stevie Ray Vaughan – Little Wing Lyrics 17 years ago
Alright... First off, Stevie never sang this song, he just did the most beautiful instrumental I've ever heard. Second off, Jimi's playing was a bit sloppy when he played live at times... I think this was due mostly to the fact that he was always flying high as a kite when he played live... Therefore his playing was a bit compromised. Towards the end of Jimi's short career his live playing cleaned up tremendously. I know this cuz I have many Jimi concert DVDs... He also played sloppy on alot of tunes because he was sick and tired of playing the same old shit, and didn't really care. Jimi was more of a studio guy... All his greatest work went into making some of the greatest and most beautiful studio recordings ever. And wetcoaster... You couldn't be any more wrong about Stevie having a sizeable ego. He was one of the most humble guitar players ever. He shared the stage with many guitarists with less talent and never tried to upstage them or show them up... And he gave them the spotlight. (even though the spotlight always landed on Stevie regardless) Stevie also would not have covered this song to shut people up about calling him the next Hendrix. Stevie played his music to reach out and touch people... And this song is a perfect example of that. And lastly, I would like to add that you really cannot compare Stevie to Jimi. Stevie was the better guitar slinger for sure... But Jimi was the original. In Jimi's short-lived career he wrote some of the most beautiful and memorable tunes of all time, and nothing can take that away... Stevie wouldn't be Stevie if it wasn't for Jimi. What Stevie did with Jimi's work was amazing and a compliment to Jimi... Stevie not only did Jimi the justice that he deserves and more... He also managed to do this AND put his own spin on this beautiful song and make it his own. Jimi would be proud. I consider them both equals, differences aside.

I like to picture Jimi and Stevie up in Heaven with all the rest of the fallen greats, just having a jam session and heaps of fun.

RIP Jimi and Stevie
