Incubus – When It Comes Lyrics 11 years ago
To me, this song is about scientology and other religions where lame ass philosophies are sold to people (ie "what i want and what i need is and will always be free").

Stone Temple Pilots – Meat Plow Lyrics 13 years ago
Scott started heroin while on tour with the 'Surfers in 1993. It's possible he went to rehab before writing purple and the press never knew about it...obviously he didn't stay clean, but it's still a possibility...people like to be private about that shit, especially back then with kurt and layne in the media every other day.

I have been to rehab myself and I recognize a lot of things in the lyrics that are about getting clean \ recovery.

Wild child is dead on about "Take a break from the mousetrap we call home
takes more than a message to make me smile" -- in rehab they take you to outside 12-step meetings where you leave the facility and go to an outside meeting at a church or whatever.

"I can feel when she kisses me sleeping but not when the news is on" -- I take this to mean that he's having dreams about using drugs (she is the drug..heroin, crack, whatever), but not when the "news" (talk of recovery) is on. One of the worst things about getting clean is having dreams about getting high and then waking up all sweaty and shit :) I could be wrong though, WildChild's interpretation could be right too (she is actually a girl).

I think the one thing that doesn't fit with this interpretation though is this line -- "throw a tack on the road, stop the meatplow got a bullet but it ain't mine" -- but that's only because I have no fucking clue what the word "Meatplow" actually means.

Only thing I could find outside of STP using the word is that there was an indie band called "Ethyl Meatplow" who made one major label album in 1993 and played Lollapalooza that year as well. Outside of that I have never heard of "meatplow" before...so I have no idea. Tack on the road could mean a spike (needle) in the arm, but that's a stretch. Got a bullet but it ain't mine could mean he's holding for someone...but again, it's a stretch. Someone should ask Scott what this song is really about :)

Radix's post (up a few) is also interesting.

Stone Temple Pilots – Dead & Bloated Lyrics 14 years ago
Aight, I'm gonna school you guys.
Scott wasn't into hard drugs (heroin and cocaine) until after this record was written.
Scott says that he was first introduced to heroin by the Butthole Surfers singer Gibby Haynes when STP was on tour with the surfers in 1994.
Core came out in 1992, and Purple came out in 1994.
I think this song is more about relationship shit.

Scott Weiland said the song is dedicated to Robert Pirano and his family...probably a personal friend of his or the bands, so the song is definitely about family tragedy.

Slipknot – Dead Memories Lyrics 15 years ago
Cory was on Squizz XM the other day doing Lockdown..and explained this song was about the person he once was, for the past 10 years of his life. He didn't mention a relationship and I really don't keep tabs on his personal life...BUT, that appears to be what he was talking about. He also mentioned that he purposely didn't scream at all throughout this song because "you don't need to scream to show emotion." I agree...this is one of my favorite songs.

RA – Do You Call My Name Lyrics 16 years ago
Jeeze...all of these posts, and no one actually talking about their interpretation of the lyrics! I agree Ra is a great and unique band...but I wish people would have commented on the lyrics.

I can't really put my finger on what he is trying to describe here...Here's my interpretation (probably wrong, but here goes):

The whole thing sounds like a person realizing that they are locked into a fucked up society ran by corruption and greed, and really can't do anything about it -- this feeling overcomes the person so much that all they have left to feel is fear.

The whole "Do you call my name" thing makes me think the person is feeling so fucked, hopeless, and afraid that they call out for someone to save them, but no one is there.

Well, there was my go...love it or hate it..:)

Alice in Chains – Man In The Box Lyrics 17 years ago
In some interview layne said he was "really stoned" when he wrote the lyrics for this. I honestly think he was just f-ed up as hell and thought this up out of some heroin induced euphoric nod. Drugs and angst create GREAT music people, DON'T THEY!?!?! Hell yes, AIC4E BABY

Alice in Chains – Head Creeps Lyrics 17 years ago
layne did not write alot of songs, most of the songs were written by jerry. this one is special because he actually wrote all of it himself, lyrics and music. when layne wrote music, he usually wrote about his addiction. this song is clearly about heroin addiction "one more time". He desires to get clean, but suddenly his "Head Creeps" and he wants to do it one more time. Too bad if you're addicted to the stuff you 'can't have just 1!'
