Woods Of Ypres – Alternate Ending Lyrics 12 years ago
This song has a whole new meaning now that David has passed on. Irony is a cruel mistress as his lyrics always played with the idea of death and endings even though his life was filled with hope and aspirations. "Back on the highway... my final moments" how was one to know what faith awaits him. R.I.P. David, you will forever be missed but your music will forever leave a legacy. A brilliant musician

Deep Purple – Child In Time Lyrics 15 years ago
I don't think this song is about the Vietnamese war, but rather war in general. The blind man is not just a person, or a country - it's mankind. Almost every nation has been in a conflict or war. And yes, some countries are more powerful than others, but in the end - what has war resolved?

"If you've been bad, Lord I bet you have
And you've been hit by flying lead
You'd better close your eyes and bow your head
And wait for the ricochet"

Every country has sinned, some more than others. Nobody is innocent. Every action has a reaction - you shoot bullets blindly for unjustified reasons, and you are bound to have it ricochet back to you.

The lyrics alone make this song great, but what really sends it to one of the all-time best works of genius art is everything else in the song - from the captivating organ intro, to Blackmore's unreal guitar skills, to Gillain's extraordinary vocals, and the passion that brought it all together. Probably the best song ever.

Woods Of Ypres – Your Ontario Town is a Burial Ground Lyrics 15 years ago
Amazing song, very strong lyrics.

I live in Ontario, and although I wasn't born here, I think those lyrics can be related to anywhere in the world.

"What a shame to know nothing more
Than the town where you were born"

It's the artist's view that a life should not be wasted living a simple life and not know anything outside of your community/town/city. In essence, you are a slave to a world of walls built around you and you do nothing to at least attempt to break them and be set free.

It's sad, but many people choose to live in one place their whole life, unaware of what the world has to offer, if they just extended their hand and grabbed it.

People are born, live their whole pathetic life, and die, in a patch of land they call home - no one to remember them, in complete isolation.

While the artist wanted to see what the world has to offer, to expand his knowledge and mind, and to experience life, people from his town chose to stay behind and know nothing about the world other than their home town.

This song is a wake up call, not just for people living in small towns, but for everyone - if you are not living life to its fullest, you do not deserve to live.

Funkadelic – Maggot Brain Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is definitely about war, specifically the vietnam war. Even without listening to the lyrics, I can somehow feel that it is about the sad meaning of war - that's what makes this song so special to me.

"For ya'll knocked her up" means it was everyone's fault, not just specific individuals.

"I have tasted the maggots..." means the narrator has been in war and has seen it all. He is not offended that he had to kill. He knew that it was either the enemy or him - "for I knew I had to rise above it all or drown in my own shit."

Incredible song.

Alice Cooper – Poison Lyrics 16 years ago
To me, this song is about drug addiction, specifically heroin. "You're poison running through my veins" and
"Your mouth, so hot
Your web, I'm caught
Your skin, so wet"
Although I don't believe Alice Cooper is a drug user, some of the bands he tours with (specifically Megadeth in 1986) have had people hooked on drugs. Dave Mustaine in fact considers Alice Cooper his "godfather" for helping and supporting him through the rough period when he was a hardcore addict.

Sixx: A.M. – Tomorrow Lyrics 16 years ago
Hey havana4sale, I am not a big fan of Motley Crue, they are way too cheesy for me, but Sixx:AM is different because you can feel that the music is coming from the heart and from the darkest places of his soul. I would say it kind of sounds like any other new rock band, but the meaning of the lyrics and the idea behind it is what makes it stand out and impress me.

Sixx: A.M. – Girl With Golden Eyes Lyrics 16 years ago
This, for me, is the one song that sums up the whole album. It's executed perfectly, and the story is deep and moving. The 'girl' speaks Persian, because when Nikki ODed in 1987, it was Persian heroin.
"And though I hardly know her
I let her in my veins
And trust her with my life"
Nikki's dealer gave him this type of heroin for the first time, Nikki was drunk and the dealer offered him to shoot him up, causing him to instantly OD. He was then checked into a clinic and that's what the second part of the song describes.

Sixx: A.M. – Tomorrow Lyrics 16 years ago
This song, as with every other song on the album is about heroin addiction and the lows that come with it. Even if you survive from the use of drugs, you will always have to bear the bad memories and know that you caused pain and sorrow to your friends and family. "Tomorrow you'll have to cross bridges that you burned today" says that what you did today will negatively affect what you can do tomorrow. It's a cryout for help, even though you know no one is going to help you and if you continue down that path you will die.

Sixx: A.M. – Dead Man's Ballet Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about Nikki's childhood and what caused him to go down the spiral. His father had abandoned him at very early age and his mother and abusive boyfriend raised him. The lack of parental guidance caused him to steal, lie, and do and sell drugs.

The second part of the song is about when Nikki overdosed after a show and died for a few minutes before being revived by a paramedic on the ambulance. "You can lead him to the ambulance, But you cannot make him live"

Fair to Midland – (Tibet) Dance of the Manatee Lyrics 16 years ago
I love that song, but I don't have a clue what (if anything) they are talking about. Obviously, the tortoise and the hare is an old fairy tail and judging from the video, it's supposed to be some sort of tail, but to be honest it all sounds like a random compilation of words that sound well together. Still a great song, will get their album soon too
