Flobots – The Moon Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It shows up in three of their songs that I know of, all of them on the Platypus EP. (the original version of Handlebars was on the EP). So I guess it just kind of came out during that time period but I haven't heard them refer to it anywhere else on Fight With Tools or later |
Flobots – The Moon Lyrics | 11 years ago |
yeah man those were the two corrections I spotted immediately also. It should be changed. |
Muse – Plug In Baby Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I like the interpretations of guitar, dildo etc and find them interesting... my initial impression of this song is that the "plug-in baby" is a baby jesus statue which perhaps lights up or something. I mean he references crucifixion and virginity, two main aspects of the jesus story. Just my knee-jerk interpretation. |
Dream Theater – Misunderstood Lyrics | 12 years ago |
and that would be das Ubermensch, the "Overman". honestly I dont think DT had nietzsche in mind when they wrote this song |
Dream Theater – Misunderstood Lyrics | 12 years ago |
JesusPedro, I noticed this too. some may call this overanalyzing, I call it meta-analyzing: understanding the underlying conceptual presentation beyond the point that the band even intended but what is manifested directly from the inspirational energy that defined the composition. |
Dream Theater – Misunderstood Lyrics | 12 years ago |
no I totally caught that. In fact it reminds me somewhat of the riff Pink Floyd plays on The Wall in the middle of Hey You, at the end of Waiting For The Worms and at the end of The Trial. it's that tragic plunging finale riff, perfect for a culmination. p.s. I featherplucking love this song |
Dream Theater – Misunderstood Lyrics | 12 years ago |
yes enderwggn, that is the story of Scenes From A Memory... however Mozzy is right, SFAM does look at the spiritual and supernatural in terms of the soul- reincarnation, karma etc ("our deeds have traveled far/what we have been is what we are"). and Mozzy buddy you hit the nail on the head- Six Degrees looks at issues in terms of psychology, morality and ethics. as for Octovarium, I am a somewhat new DT fan and look forward to the pleasure of experiencing it. |
Dream Theater – Misunderstood Lyrics | 12 years ago |
it's about exactly the opposite of being superhuman... clearly you have Misunderstood! |
Dream Theater – The Dance of Eternity Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Well I was tempted but I'll refrain from commenting on the inane assertions some have put forth here. Instead I just want to say that the first time I heard this song it was 2am and I was lying high in my bed and after I few minutes of being blasted by The Dance Of Eternity I just could not contain myself and burst out laughing. This song is the most intense, complex and utterly fantastic single piece of music I've ever heard. I'm proud to call it a top 10 all-time all-genre favorite. I played this song for one of my friends who is somewhat egotistic and picky about music and here are his words: INSTANTLY like this band! |
Dream Theater – The Shattered Fortress Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I listened to this song, in fact the first five on BC&SL for the first time tonight... this is the fifth DT album I've bought and the fourth time I've been blown away. As for this song in particular, without any prior research I could easily tell that it is a sequel to The Glass Prison and has many parallels musically and conceptually. In fact the "faithful ascent" quatrain has the exact same melody as the Glass Prison lyrics "Fatal Descent, spinning around, I've gone too far, To turn back round", which I found pleasing as it was a contrast to the distorted vocal effects on the Glass Prison melody. All in all aften one listen to the first five tracks on Black Clouds & Silver Linings(I'm still working up the nerve to tackle The Count Of Tuscanny), and a listen to two of the instrumentals, I have to say this is absolutely classic Dream Theater. While it may not completely match Metropolis II's scope of drama or Images & Words' poppy energy, I find it a solid installment in DT's catalogue and a fantastic work of music. I sincerely hope everyone hears what I hear in this album, and I only hope that when I finally do surrender myself to The Count Of Tuscanny I don't orgasm and/or shit my pants. |
Radiohead – Sail to the Moon. (Brush the Cobwebs Out of the Sky.) Lyrics | 12 years ago |
I always thought the first line was "I shot the moon"... and I stand by that |
Tool – H. Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is inspired by and named after Maynard's son, Devo H. Keenan. Read the lyrics. I'm sure the fact that H is slang for Heroin was taken into account by Keenan; he writes his songs for us, not for himself; so the song is about whatever you designate it to be. to *SoBeR~STiNKFiST*: Maynard Keenan's born name was James HERBERT Keenan... youre an idiot. |
King Crimson – The Mincer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
what album is this off? |
King Crimson – Walking on Air Lyrics | 16 years ago |
A met an amazing girl several months ago... I cared for her more than any girl before. This became "our" song. Unfortunatly after two tantalising months she ended up choosing her ex boyfriend of two years over me. I play this song very rarely, but when I do it brings tears to my eyes. |
King Crimson – Three Of A Perfect Pair Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I was about to contradict itzed when I paused and thought for a minute, and I believe he is right on. In the Christian faith (and others, I assume) it is intensely stressed that a marriage is a triangle which includes God, who is as significant in the marriage as the other partner. Obviously the lyricist (I'm not sure about this time period, was it Fripp...?) introduces this concept rather sarcastically and critically. I first heard this song by the band Between The Buried And Me, although I am an avid Krimso fan. It had a special significance for me at the time because a good friend of mine, who is a lso a fan of KC, and I were trapped in a sort of love triangle with this girl... I always felt like we were three of a perfect pair because any two of us (not is a perverted way) would have made a "perfect pair" and yet we were trying to cram three into that mold. Just some sentimental nostalgia. |
Between the Buried and Me – Sun of Nothing Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Between The Buried And Me list Pink Floyd as one of their influences... I believe this song is titled after Floyd's unreleased early version of their epic "Echoes", "The Return Of The Son Of Nothing". |
Roger Waters – Hello I Love You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Actually Hakimike, I disagree. "Have you heard it was on the news you can make your peace on the dark side of the moon I'll see you there we can rock 'n' roll we can make our choice we can say goodbye or say hello" Don't forget that "the dark side of the moon", as according to the album's concept, in the peak of insanity/revelation/death that all people must eventually face. In the album it is also portrayed as a place that cannot be reached in this life (perhaps for better); so to me it sound like Waters is saying that the Floyd will never "make their peace", or that they will in the very end after it no longer matters. Good song, I also like the movie it appears on, The Last Mimzy; one of the best children's movies I've seen. Shine on |
King Crimson – The Court of the Crimson King Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Wow. I love King Crimson! This song is amazing. When I heard it in Children Of Men I couldn't believe it. I went absolutely crazy when I they look out from the Battersea Power Station and sea the Floyd pig... Still my favourite movie! |
King Crimson – Indiscipline Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Crazy, crazy song. I first heard it when I was trying to fall asleep... and awoke confused and disoriented. Pretty cool. |
Pink Floyd – Goodbye Blue Sky Lyrics | 17 years ago |
^ THANK YOU! I love how so many people cite "1984" as the origin of the phrase "brave new world", when, in fact, Huxley's "Brave New World" is usually far more recognised than Orwell's work. Anyway, if you read between the lines you find typical Waters cynicism. The hope concept in this song is obviously the "promise of a brave new world", which is actually, when Huxley's book is considered, only a promise of a dehuminising future. Uplifting, no doubt. Anyway, an amazing song. Shine on |
Primus – Have a Cigar (Pink Floyd cover) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
^ Nice observation, but this song comes off of the band's most loved (not well-known) album, Wish You Were Here. Have A Cigar was always the lowpoint for me when I listened to WYWH, but I think this rendition is amazing; This song always sounded like a mature LC song and a little too... well, not quite a Foyd song. I think this is amazing. BTW, my friend introduced me to Claypool and Primus, and I've pretty much burned him every Floyd album (except AMLoR- but that's an arguement for another day). Anyway, for his birthday I'm getting him Claypool's cover of Animals, which I'm sure we'll both enjoy. Shine on |
Pink Floyd – Looking Through the Knotholes in Granny's Wooden Leg Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I swear man, as soon as my band gets a real gig, I'm going to introduce a song by this name. |
Spock's Beard – The Light Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I read on iTunes that there in the section "One Man" there was a reference to King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man"... If anyone knows Crimson and foudn the allusion please let me know... |
Porcupine Tree – Men of Wood Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I don't like this song much. It's reminiscent of Syd Barrett, but just way too pretentious and forced. Actually most early Porcupine Tree music is, yet usually it's justified by the quality. |
King Crimson – Exiles Lyrics | 17 years ago |
These lyrics seem a little off. Amazing song. |
King Crimson – Inner Garden II Lyrics | 17 years ago |
What does 'sotto voce' mean? (My guess is a musical/vocal tone) |
King Crimson – Inner Garden I Lyrics | 17 years ago |
my bad Autumn has come To rest In her garden Come to paint the trees With emptiness And no pardon So many things Have come undone Like the leaves on the ground And suddenly she Begins to cry But she doesn't know why Heavy are the words That fall through the air To burden her shoulders Caught up in the trees Her soliloquy Don't leave me alone Amazing song |
King Crimson – Inner Garden I Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Autumn has come |
30 Seconds to Mars – End of the Beginning Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"You know the day destroys the night Night divides the day Tried to run, Tried to hide Break on through to the other Side" Inspiration by the Doors? |
30 Seconds to Mars – End of the Beginning Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Their debut album is a concept album centrered around the idea that space travel/ escaping earth represents separating from what humanity has become (which Leto doesn't consider very human); which is dominated by war and religeon, and ultimately, religeous wars ("This is what's right and we go to fight for freedom and justice and innocence so get out their and do your part while I sit back in washington- oh wait, you're already dead. Somebody bring me another 100k soldiers...) Shine On |
30 Seconds to Mars – The Mission Lyrics | 17 years ago |
FrooziE- I have the booklet, I'll check sometime. |
30 Seconds to Mars – Edge Of The Earth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
And I think it's "Look into this new future's face" every time. |
30 Seconds to Mars – Edge Of The Earth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Could it be "Dive into the centre of Fame"? Cool song. |
30 Seconds to Mars – Welcome to the Universe Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Pantheon: Temple dedicated to all gods of a certain religeon. Cool song, I wish it was longer. BTW, did anyone notice that the phrase "welcome to the universe" is at the very end of Year Zero... which is at the very end of the album... |
30 Seconds to Mars – Year Zero Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Does anyone have the lyrics/text to the distorted voice around 5 minutes into the song? |
Pink Floyd – The Return of the Son of Nothing Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Anybody? |
Porcupine Tree – Stars Die Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I have the remaster CD of The Sky Moves Sideways (And the Moonloop EP), and on this track near the end there seems to be a recording of the then-current president addressing the first American astro-nauts who landed on the moon. |
Tegan and Sara – Back in Your Head Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Wow, deep song. *Borat voice* NOT! |
Porcupine Tree – Anesthetize Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Wow. I love the line "So don't breathe here..." Haunting. Moving. In my opinion, the best song on the album. One of their best songs since the Delerium years. Shine On |
Porcupine Tree – Sever Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Very good song. I'm still trying to find out what ESP means... |
Porcupine Tree – Anesthetize Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Wow. I love the line "So don't breathe here..." Haunting. Moving. In my opinion, the best song on the album. One of their best songs since the Delerium years. Shine On |
Porcupine Tree – Radioactive Toy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Decent, I think he could have adapted the lyrics to vocals a little better, but still good. I like the falsetto background when he says "give me..." It reminds me of a band called TV On The Radio, which so far is pretty good. Shine On |
Porcupine Tree – Anesthetize Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Actually, I think the last verse is the protagonist talking to his old self... just memories now... |
Porcupine Tree – My Ashes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
'Course mommy's gonna help build the wall... I cannot explain, you would not understand; This is not how I am... I have become comfortably numb... Goodbye, all you people, there's nothing you can say... To make me change my mind, goodbye... ! |
Porcupine Tree – Sleep Together Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Ed981 has it. Also Wilson may have stated the original meaning of this song, I think in this context it is about sex to pass time. Shine On |
Porcupine Tree – Way Out of Here Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Porcupine Tree is undoubtedly one of the few good bands of the nineties, and one of the even fewer of the 2000s. Persoanlly, I love their older stuff; and while the music is good (excluding the programmed drums on their first albums), Wilson's lyrics are too staightforward and simple. Not that they don't get the point across, but he lacks a certain style. This album, Fear Of A Blank Planet, tells a very similiar (if slightly modernised) version of Pink Floyd's The Wall, and when contrasting the two you can see that Wilson's lyrics are rather immature. In my opinion, I think he's too eagre to get his points across that he doesn't take the time that he used to. Anyway, I love the band and their music is excellant for recent bands. Shine On |
Porcupine Tree – Waiting (Phase One) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"Waiting... To be born again" Wanting... The saddest kind of pain" Being "born again" is a term common to religion, specifically Christianity, which seems to lie beneath the surface of this album, and a few others. I think in this context Wilson is waiting for some kind of initiation of acceptance into some kind of organisation (not necessarily the church). "Waiting... For the day when I will crawl away" Waiting for yourself to crawl away. To me, it's the same feeling of hopelessness as when you know you have to get out of bed, but you're just waiting for some kind of strength to do it for you. "Nothing... Is what I feel Waiting... For the drugs to make it real" Moving, but I don't think this is really anything unique. "Waiting... To be disciplined Aching... For your nails across my skin" Someone above said that this song was about a break-up, drugs for comfort, and the nine yards. I don't think so, not at all. To me nails across the skin means some kind of conflict; Hate. (Listening to the song now, it doesn't sound like they're saying "nails", but I could be wrong.) Looking at it from another perspective, the drugs may actually be medical drugs, and he is in the hospital.... Which makes me think; What if he was lying in a hospital bed dying (~cancer)? The entire meaning of this song would be changed... "Waiting to be born again" The only thing now he has to look forward to is the chaplain to come and help him make his peace with god... "Waiting for the day when I can crawl away" Waiting for death, release from... I guess his state of intermediate... indecision... Just waiting to stop waiting. Shine on |
Yes – Close to the Edge Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Hey guys, I listened to this album last night for the first time. Amazing. I think I was more impressed with CTTE than with Echoes on my first listen. Anyway, when I have the money I'm planning on buying a few Yes albums... Any recommendations? Shine on |
Porcupine Tree – Dark Matter Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Wow. Another amazing song by PT. These guys are currently my second-favourite band, right after The Floyd. Their music is incredible, my personal favourite the 34-minute version of The Sky Moves Sideways. I have their albums Voyage 34, Sideways, Stars Die, and Up The Downstair; but I've only heard a few of their more recent songs, which I think are decent but not quite as amazing as their earlier style. Can anyone recommend a good album to start off with for their later stuff? Shine On |
Pink Floyd – Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun Lyrics | 17 years ago |
My favourite song. Period. If you want to hear a very good cover of this song, look on iTunes (or LimeWire, I asume) for an album called The World's Greatest Pink Floyd Tribute (it's certainly not, but there are some decent songs); The song is by Psychic TV. I also found an extremely creepy version of this song fused with Empty Spaces, by a band called Beyond Salem. The lyrics for Set The Controls are changed a bit, which I thought made thiis cover extremely interesting. Very dark song. Again, your best bet is iTunes. Shine On |
