Simon and Garfunkel – Scarborough Fair/Canticle Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The song is most comonly aranged as a duet. These are some of the original lyrics: Are you going to Scarborough Fair? Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, Remember me to one who lives there, For she/he once was a true love of mine. MAN Tell her to make me a cambric shirt, Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, Without any seam nor needlework, And then she'll be a true love of mine. Tell her to wash it in yonder dry well, Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, Which never sprung water nor rain ever fell, And then she'll be a true love of mine. Tell her to dry it on yonder thorn, Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, Which never bore blossom since Adam was born, And then she'll be a true love of mine. Ask her to do me this courtesy, Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, And ask for a like favour from me, And then she'll be a true love of mine. BOTH Have you been to Scarborough Fair? Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, Remember me from one who lives there, For she/he once was a true love of mine. WOMAN Ask him to find me an acre of land, Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, Between the salt water and the sea-strand, For then he'll be a true love of mine. Ask him to plough it with a lamb's horn, Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, And sow it all over with one peppercorn, For then he'll be a true love of mine. Ask him to reap it with a sickle of leather, Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, And gather it up with a rope made of heather, For then he'll be a true love of mine. When he has done and finished his work, Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, Ask him to come for his cambric shirt, For then he'll be a true love of mine. BOTH If you say that you can't, then I shall reply, Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, Oh, Let me know that at least you will try, Or you'll never be a true love of mine. Love imposes impossible tasks, Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme, But none more than any heart would ask, I must know you're a true love of mine. |
Sufjan Stevens – For the Widows in Paradise, for the Fatherless in Ypsilanti Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song refers to a lot of things, but I think a lot of it revolves around Christ. And Sound-of-Setteling, I agree. That's the wonderful thing about music. It means something different to whoever interperates it. To me, this is about Jesus and needing a Father. "Christianity is not just fire and brimstone" I agree with that too. While as Christians, we are not all "sugar coated" we are not fire and brimstone either. I'm not a big fan of Christian music becuase a lot of it does seem very "fluffed up". But Sufjan's defenitly an exception. His music makes me think of King David because it's so honest to God. I love it. |
Sufjan Stevens – Wolverine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
People in Michigan call themselves "Wolverines", and I'm guessing that's where the name comes from. Anyway, the wistling is so nice and refreshing. I love it. |

Sufjan Stevens – The Tallest Man, the Broadest Shoulders (Part 1: The Great Frontier; Part 2: Come to Me Only with Playthings Now) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The Spirit, the Carpenter Invites us to be with her I get the Spirt, the Carpenter, but why does he say invites us to be with her? Do you think they're not refering to Jesus when they say that. The first thing that struck me for that was that he was refering to Jesus. |
Sufjan Stevens – To Be Alone with You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
to what zachharrisment said "Praise God in all his strange diversities and eccentricities that I will never know or understand.". It's funny becuase I was reading Job earlier and I was thinking that Job repented even though he didn't understand why God was doing what He was to him. I just find that really amazing and wish I could have the strenght to do that. Anyway, I love this song becuase as a Babe in Christ, I'm trying to understand what it's like to build a personal relationship with Him. And just this weekend I was on a retreat, and for one of the first times ever, I felt truely alone with God, and just hearing this song makes me so happy. God bless Sufjan Stevens =) |
Sufjan Stevens – Seven Swans Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Sufjan Stevens – Pittsfield Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Wow. It's funny becuase I'm writing a story, and I didn't even pay attention to these lyircs until I puased to think about what I was writing and what to say next. And when I finnaly stopped to listen, I realised this was exactly what my charecter thought their whole life about their family. It's funny how those things happen...Sufjan Stevens is amazing though. |

No, but I think the name is a play on Asthmatic Kitty Records. |
Sufjan Stevens – He Woke Me Up Again Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this is about God's redemption and waking us up for a new life in Christ. And Donnarella, I agree. He puts it in subtly enough to be enjyed by people who are or are not Christian. And Miss Misery, I agree. I couldn't stop smiling when I heard this that I prayed and thanked God for literally fifteen minutes. I think that's what I like about Sufjan. He can make his music real to the listeners. |
Five for Fighting – The Riddle Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Elton John – Tiny Dancer Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song means so much to me. When I was a baby, my dad would put me on top of the piano, and then play this song for me. We even have it on tape, and I'd fall asleep to it imeaditly. Elton John's amzing. |
The Beatles – Blackbird Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Don McLean – Vincent (Starry Starry Night) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Van Gogh was a troubled man whom many didn't undeerstand. His biggest trouble was that though his art work was beautiful, it wasn't understood at the time. It was almost abtract to them. He only sold one painting in his life time I believe and even strugled to understand himself. He took four or fie jobs before finally choosing to become an artist. He'd even spend weeks on end not eating just so he could buy paint. |

Josh Groban – You're Still You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Makes me cry whenever I hear it. |
Peter Gabriel – Solsbury Hill Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think that it's about being caught between two places, the place and people he called home and wanting to go to his own start. "Which connection I should cut" meaning which he should leave, his dreams of a new career, or Genisis. Also Solsbury Hill is suposed to be where King Arthur fought the Saxtons. Not that it has anything to really do with the song, but still cool. |
Jamie Cullum – TwentySomething Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love hjow he can put hummor into a song, and yet let the meaning run very deeply. It's about someone in their twenties wondering what the hell do with their life. There are so many options, yet which to choose? |
Jamie Cullum – Blame It On My Youth Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think it means that he put too much time into a girl that didn't really care for him. Then when she left, he was crushed. Just my thought on it. |
Jamie Cullum – All At Sea Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I listen to this song when I need to get away from everyone. It's like for a few minutes, I can be away from all the troubles of the world. |
Jamie Cullum – I Want to be a Popstar Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The lyrics say it all. How come all these people who really aren't that talented making so much money when those with reall amazing talent are sitting there struggling to make a carer of themselves? I love this song. It's got a lot of truth to it. |
Jamie Cullum – High & Dry Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Sufjan Stevens – The Seer's Tower Lyrics | 17 years ago |
the line "He comes dividing man from brothers" reminds me of the rapture. As the believers are seperated form the non-believers. |
