Tiffany – All This Time Lyrics 2 years ago
By chance I had a listen to this again out of the blue, and I still love how touching this song is. I've got a lump in my throat.

Easily, it's correlate this ballad as a 'break-up' song, telling of time spent but in vain, paths as the often do diverging, and the hopes of a later reconing or reunion to come (a bond we'll make another time) but what to do now, as life takes a different path. All this time.

And life goes on.

Personally, It hits home with me about the woman I wanted to marry back in the 80's, right about when this song was hitting the charts, we were breaking up (a mutual decision), although we've carried the love for one another 4 decades into the future. We realized long ago that the love between us never died, although the relationship at the time did. As 60-somethings now, we still find time to be with one another when we can.

And the sun still shines. And the sun still sets.

The Alan Parsons Project – Days Are Numbers (The Traveller) Lyrics 2 years ago
How amazing music like this is, how it can invoke a memory.

It took 2 seconds when I heard the phone ringing in the intro, and (although I haven't heard this song in over a decade) I immediately felt my throat tighten up, and got a bit teary-eyed.

It's a beautiful song, for all the reasons that people have stated, but for me - it invoked a memory long forgotten of a lonely, confused 20-something that woke up one morning and decided he'd had enough...

"The traveller awaits the morning tide
He doesn't know what's on the other side
But something deep inside of him
Keeps telling him to go
He hasn't found a reason to say no"

Thank God for divine interaction, or whatever it was that day. I'm lucky I now get to reflect as a 60-something year old man on all the wonderment that the world had to offer. #ItGetsBetter.

I still love this song, and Alan Parsons Project. This was an excellent album, and it's still timeless.

Hall and Oates – Did It In A Minute Lyrics 2 years ago
I always smile when I’m dining along to this now, it’s been almost 40 years since it’s release.

I think the song is about the trials and tribulations and the pitfalls of love, the way some of us may find ourselves unsure or jaded with the notion of relationships :
“somethings stay the same and some things need a change” - and how we think we have it all figured out. and then one person comes along in an instant and you suddenly find yourself in love again.

Dream Academy – not for second prize Lyrics 3 years ago
I completely agree, some 14 years later with ctlizyrd's above interpretation on the message within the lyrics of Not For Second Prize. One last genius stroke of the pen and the strings from Dream Academy, and Nick Laird Clowes.
Most love affairs have a beginning and an end, whether all parties involved want it ot not. Such is the case with our love affair with the D.A. - and without knowing exactly how to say goodbye, i think this melody did the deed quite brilliantly, and in N.L.C's typical mysterious, melodic and cryptic way. I'm ever sad that the ride is over. I'm forever grateful for the memories.

Nanci Griffith – These Days in an Open Book Lyrics 10 years ago
This song is clearly an ode to the memory of Nanci's high school boyfriend, John, who died in a motorcycle accident after dropping her off at home following their senior prom.

IMO, It is one of the most beautifully constructed and performed songs about a lost love, you can almost feel the artists emotion as she ruminates about part of her life cut way too short, too soon.

The Psychedelic Furs – The Ghost In You Lyrics 11 years ago
They lyrics as they're stated today are wrong. I've submitted a correction.

Plain and simple, as many of you have stated, this song is about having been in love with someone who never leaves your memory.. "She's living in you" -

This song was so prophetic on a personal level in my personal life that part of the lyrics were incorporated into a tattoo i created, about the love of my life .. from 30 years ago. She still remains my angel that is 'all of heaven away'.

Thompson Twins – If You Were Here Lyrics 12 years ago
I look at the lyrics totally different, taking them in context with the movie. (I don't know if that's what was intended, but here goes:)

I look at it from Jake Ryan's perspective: yeah, you want to be here with me. "If you were here, I could deceive you" - but I don't want a part of those games anymore. (he was looking for something that 'mattered') Real love. "Would you suspect my emotions wandering?" (or simply see me as someone who's not as perfect as you think)...

Yes, he's not as perfect as he seems on the outside: "rainwater seeps through a crack in the ceiling - and I'll have to spend time on repair"... signifies to me that while he's imperfect, he'll always be falling and starting over. He's human. And he so wants to love her - only on a real level of some sorts, without all the games people play with one another's hearts.

At least, that's how I like to think of it.

Sorry, i'm with NunoInfo on this one. I'm gay, and I don't get the reference you speak of. Clearly, the Ecclisiates reference of the Sea makes much more sense.

The Bangles – I'll Set You Free Lyrics 15 years ago
I too completely agree with Xsnowxwhitex as portrayed above - and too, I can (could) totally relate to this song when it came out. (pun intended).

Often missed, or misinterpreted though in this song is one of it's crowning moments.. the crescendo of emotion that only Susanna Hoffs could portray with such reality that you can feel it: when the girls in the background are singing behind her " .. all I want is you-u, all I want is you " .. followed with the questioning, searching for one last desparate shred of some reason to hold onto one another : "Did you want what I want? Do you want what I wanted?? ..

The verse so completely hits the mark on the powerful feeling of want, desire, and desperation in this song. It's almost palpable. I almost always shed tears when I close my eyes and listen to this ending. it hits so close to home. And even if it didn't - THIS is what it feels like.

Clearly, it's about a love in it's dying days.. and how desperate and sad the realization of that moment when it comes can be. Susanna Hoffs at her very very best.

The Bangles – September Girls Lyrics 15 years ago
As the Bangles sang it: It's about an affair with an older man... I could read more into it - but I'll leave that up to everyone else to savor. A typical Bangles spin on the May-December kind of romance..only they're September girls!

The Psychedelic Furs – Love My Way Lyrics 17 years ago
you kids are so cute!

Yes, the Furs are and WHERE the absolute BOMB when they were in the new wave spotlight in the early -mid 80's... No one before, or since could rasp a tune like Richard Butler.. it's just his voice - and that added some of the mystery to his songs, I think..

From an 80's kid, who lived part of his life 'underground' as we gay kids did in the early 80's, when being "out" wasn't as prevalent and easy as it might be today - this song struck a chord in us BIG time.. it was like a call to duty.. to "come out" .. to "Put on our new faces", so to speak.

I can't attest to the absolute meaning of this song, but trust that since Richard Butler is a gay brother, too - it's definately about the "new way" of love that was coming into the fore-front in the 80's and making headlines as the AIDS crisis started dominating the headlines ...

I always feel 22 when I hear this song again.. The Furs are by far my fave group of all time!

Gin Blossoms – Hey Jealousy Lyrics 17 years ago
Actually, I think some of you are close to the mark..
But I've always interpreted this song, as tho he (singer) was singing to "Jealousy" - his trait - and the one thing he has left in his life after he/it ended a relationship...

Maybe he and his jealousy can ride around this town, and let the cops chase them around.. ie: He's got all these other traits.. doesn't think too much.. won't sleep around.. but he never could overcome his raging jealousy.. which he's left with.

My personal fave phrase in this song are those lyrics: "the past is gone, but something might be found to take it's place...

I loved this song (and still do!) while I was on the receiving end of someone's incessant rages, and jealousy.. Needless to say - they're history too.
