The Decemberists – Sixteen Military Wives Lyrics 16 years ago
It's clearly anti-war, Colin Meloy called it a fucking protest song for fuck's sake. And yes, obviously very anti-imperialistic, as the video makes clear.

I think the digs at "pristine liberal minds" are in fact a dig at liberalism, and the fact that liberals talk a bunch of smack but seldom do anything positive(See Phil Ochs' "Love Me I'm a Liberal"), in fact they perform a service to the system by distracting people from actually ending the war, and channeling real anger and despair into more acceptable(by the powers that be) pursuits, like watching tv. It is both possible and desirable to be both anti-war and despise liberals.

This song is brilliant, musically and lyrically.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Stagger Lee Lyrics 17 years ago
Stagger Lee songs are rumored to have come to America on slave ships- I've read that he's been killing poor Billy for centuries and centuries.
I've also read, and agree with, that the overblown violence and profanity in Nick's take on Stag is a commentary/parody on gangster rap.
Anyway, this is my second favorite Stagger Lee song, the best imo is The Clash's Wrong "Em Boyo.

heaven 17 is a British 80's band. Political dance music like, deeply left wing. See "We Don't Need This Fascist Groove Thing". That song was banned on BBC. Bill Gates spearheading their revival seems rather unlikely.

The Mountain Goats – If You See Light Lyrics 17 years ago
Conjures up being so scared, knowing I'm going to get caught, just waiting, and trying to enjoy the time that's there but how can you when it's so fucking scary and you know what's coming?
