This song just fucking rocks. That riff is undeniable and the "woo hoo" i go crazy to this song. And i love the theory that people have posted that Blur made this song to make fun of American rock music at that time and how you can just put out a catchy riff and say anything and your lyrics and get a hit on American radio. I hope that's true! Because I would like to believe that was what this song was about and if that's true Blur are all the more cooler for that. |

this is why I hate Nirvana fans. We can't go to a single Hole page without seeing this "OMG Courtney killed Kurt! SHe had to go to this website!!!." Obsessed much? The only thing you little shitheads can tell me is what Tom Grant told you and that is not a legtimate source for me. And obviously when a rock legend dies there is going to be some hack making money off him and why not blame Courtney, she's an easy target isn't she? You people are so naive that you would believe anything. The majority of that stuff is made up not confirmed so I don't know why you believe what some website says and that other stuff he's just assigning meaning where there isn't any.
The whole "Courtney killed Kurt" thing is a witch hunt. Plain and simple. People who are actually qualified to speak out on this have said many times Kurt had built up a tolerance to heroin and could have very easily pulled the trigger, yet you Nirvana dorks don't ever seem to bring THAT up. And anyway think about it, getting away with murder is not such an easy thing. You've seen way too many movies to think that it is easy. Just think about it. I suppose someone forced the needle in Kurt's arm? THat's impossible to do without leaving some sort of mark or sign or forced entry. You know who are they to speak out on some woman's grief? It's not their place to because they aren't in her shoes. I get sick of people turning Courtney Love into a punching bag just because she's a very open woman who carried on after her husband's suicide. Would they have been happier if she just stayed in her home? No she had a band and went out on the road, if it were a man who had lost his wife and he went out on the road and expressed his grief in his performances no one would say anything. This song is obviously about Courtney Love Just like Heart Shaped Box it's another twisted love song. It's about their codependent relationship. There are letters of Kurt writing to Courtney with these lyrics in it. It's about how everyone was out to get Courtney (and you still are) and make her out to be a controlling villain and him the miserable whiny wimp . Doll Steak is Courtney Love. And "lost eyesight I'm on your side" is about even though everyone is trying to crucify his wife he's still on her side. Kurt said "I'm so blinded by love" and it talks about how close their relationship was and how troubled it was and how misunderstood it was because people just blame Courtney for everything and Kurt hated that. And the "your scent is still here in my place of my recovery" is about how If you look In Utero is basically songs about his codependent relationship with Courtney, and being a family man, and feeling raped by the media. Kurt liked to throw in pieces of poetry as well randomly. He wanted to confuse everybody and he'd often give many different meaning of his songs but they all go back to his love for Courtney and him feeling depressed and suicidal and plagued with drugs, and about the way people perceive him. And a lot of songs are attacking sexist people too because he was a feminist. |

This is about Billy Corgan. And the song was written before Courtney even got together with Kurt so it wasn't written about or by him. She was playing this on the tour live before she hooked up with Kurt. So there you go.
It's about her relationship with Billy Corgan and how it really wasn't going anywhere and he just wanted to sleep with her. Anyway it's Hole's greatest song and Courtney had gotten an advance copy of Nevermind and listened to it over and over again and decided to write a song like that, so Nirvana did play a hand in this song somehow. But I personally like it better than any Nirvana song.
I think it's a topic that's not discussed enough in music and Courtney does it in such a brilliant, powerful way. And her screams of "go on take everything" are so primal and raw and just great. I love Courtney's voice. It's not technically great but it's great at evoking emotion and pain and it's very rock & roll. Hole were such a genius band. |
