Buffalo Springfield – Broken Arrow Lyrics 17 years ago
**Not saying the song is about that, just thought that this is an interesting fact** At the time, Vietnam was a big deal, and Neil Young did a lot with respect to protest music in the era. (Chicago, Ohio, Don't let it bring you down, etc)

Buffalo Springfield – Broken Arrow Lyrics 17 years ago
Interestingly enough the term Broken arrow was used in Vietnam as well.

It was used to signify when American lines had been overrun, and was a term that called in all available air support to the area as soon as possible in a last ditch effort to restore the lines and hopefully save some American troops lives.

Iron Maiden – These Colours Don't Run Lyrics 17 years ago
I've heard about a certain event at Ozfest that had Sharon Osbourn throwing things at Iron Maiden while they were on stage... in the end Sharon showed off her true colors, while Maiden showed theirs. At one point, Bruce had the British flag and was waving it on stage during this tantrum by Sharon, and said "These colors don't run".

Neil Young – Ohio Lyrics 18 years ago
PUNKED, it was more like 60 rounds in 12 seconds... not 18 shots as you stated.

There was no shooting at the National Guard, as it was a peaceful protest.

The whole incident sparked the need for effective crowd control methods, such as rubber bullets and other non-lethal ballistic weapons.

When Neil wrote this song, it was done at a time when anyone speaking out against Nixon ended up in trouble, or dead (great example is the four students killed... and I say students because one was just walking to another class when she was shot.. she wasn't even protesting).

Neil Young – Roger and Out Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song, placed at the end of the "Living with war" album is a way to tie Iraq and Vietnam together. The song talks about not knowing what happened to the "good buddy", that he made a sacrifice for his country (probably was KIA, "I feel you in the air today")

Over all the song is beautiful, definatly my favorite on the latest album and right up there with "After the gold rush". As for the meaning of the song, I think it is at the same level of "Ohio", as it sparks emotions of two conflicts, both of which were against popular desire, and where the reasons behind the war are not as clear cut as they perhaps should be...
