Casiotone for the Painfully Alone – Toby Take a Bow Lyrics 15 years ago
I like to think the singer is really talking to himself, saying in a sarcastic tone, "Way to go. You're miserable and it's your own fault." I think they avoid things like friends, etc. because they think that they're doing themselves a favour. Like they can't get hurt if no one is around to hurt them, but in the end, without anyone around they feel miserable. The only thing they have is music, but after listening to that one song over and over again even that becomes empty and incomparable to human company.

Or at least that's my own, very personalized, take on it.

I think Ladybug could be right. But to me, I see it as more about a person just going through a period of depression. I can't back that up with lyrics. I just feel it in the music. The way he sings it. It reminds me greatly of the way I felt going through a depressed time in my own life.

Metric – Calculation (Theme) Lyrics 18 years ago
I took it in a more literal way with the "I'm sick, you're tired." line. I saw it as a woman who is terminally ill and her husband, always having to take care of her is just tired of it because he can't live a proper life. She's too dependant on him. I think he's leaving her, and he feels guilty about it. I also think because there life is so listless due to her illness they've become cold and calculated. Their love making is just to take up space it has nothing to do with lust. Also, she's asking him to dance with her as a one last chance to make him see it can be good. She doesn't want him to leave her, but she's passive about it. "Half the horizon's for a skyline of numbers" their future just looks bleak and calculated and mechanical. "I wish we were farmers" she wants a simpler life. "I wish we were lovers, but its for the best" she doesn't want to ruin his life by making him stay, but she still loves him. "Where is the love?" she's asking him, "I thought you loved me" so to speak. "Tonight my ghost will ask your ghost, who put these bodies between us" she wants to rid them of their physical beings, that way she wouldn't be sick and he wouldn't be exhausted and they could just be together.
BTW sorry my post is so unorganized. I'm in a bit of a rush. I needed to put my ideas down before I forgot.

Metric – Succexy Lyrics 18 years ago
Is it just me or does this song remind anyone else of 1984? I just finished reading it last week and I was listening to this song and so much of it reminded me of the society from the book.

For example:

"Nothing could beat complete denial"

Everyone is in denial about how controlling their government is. When people are 'vaporized' people ignore it.

"All we do is talk, sit, switch screens
as the homeland plans enemies"

The screens are an obvious reference to the telescreens. Also, Oceania is always changing the enemies from Eurasia to Eastasia and vice versa.

"passive attraction, programmed reaction
passive attraction, programmed reaction
action distraction, more information"

Since everyone is in denial, they need to fake their reactions and filter out their mind. Double think. thats what programmed reaction means.

"where does the time go?
we’re waking up so slowly"

The government is always erasing history, hence "where does the time go?"

Is this only making sense to me? Feedback would be appreciated.
