Bob Dylan – Mama, You Been on My Mind Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"Perhaps it's the color of the sun cut flat and coverin' the crossroads I'm standin' at Or maybe it's the weather or somethin' like that. But, mama, you been on my mind..." Shiveringly good. What a song. The 'sun cut flat' image followed by the bathos of 'or maybe it's the weather...' sums up his lyrical genius. And soo sad... |
Bob Dylan – She's Your Lover Now Lyrics | 18 years ago |
He's sitting in a room at a party with his ex and her new man... this has some of Dylan's most acidic lines.. As elephant Range noted above and it's folow up "I see you give her a kiss every time she makes a speech.." And these lines crack me up: "I already assumed That we're in the felony room But I ain't a judge, you don't have to be nice to me But please tell that To your friend in the cowboy hat You know he keeps on sayin' ev'rythin' twice to me..." Perfect. " |
Bob Dylan – It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Definitely one of his best. Still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. This is about a young man finding his own unique path among the clamour and pointlessness of the modern world. "advertising signs that con you into thinking you're the one... while outside life goes on all around y ou" Meanwhile the wage slaves, "bent out of shape by society's pliers", "do what they do to be nothing more than something they invest in." Reminds me of that Robert Frost poem - 'Two roads diverged in a wood...' And the killer line - "I got nothin', ma, to live up to" -says that expectations are bullshit. This is a song to live your life by. |
Bob Dylan – Ballad of a Thin Man Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Anal-y-sis has it spot on. "You try so hard but you don't understand.." Watch the Scorsese documentary if you haven't already - there's a great scene where Dylan is giving a press conference where he is obviously pissed off at the inanity and lack of comprehension behind the questions directed at him. Mr Jones is the square media, the establishment figures trying to pick apart the 'counterculture'... What. A. Great. Fucking. Song. |
Paul Simon – Kodachrome Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Although Paul Simon does use gorgeous metaphors elsewhere, you don't need to look too hard here! Kodachrome is about his love of photography, of how it preserves memories better than he can, and about how it is a way to connect to the world around us. That's all! |
