Van Morrison – Madame George Lyrics 11 years ago
If you listen to the song you will realise
"And you know you gotta go
On that train from Dublin up to Sandy Row" and not the other way. I think your other suggestions are equally wide of the mark and "iffy" to quote yourself - you are not the song!

Bob Dylan – With God on Our Side Lyrics 11 years ago
Nice one - the NRA might not like this song on the day of massacre in Denver

Guns N' Roses – November Rain Lyrics 15 years ago
Kinda like a pop opera on MTV - cool

Van Morrison – Brown Eyed Girl Lyrics 15 years ago
If you ever wonder why Americans are so susceptible to conspiracy theories, and so many believe
Elvis is still alive just read some of these postings and you will have your answer. Inane and ignorant.

Van Morrison – These Dreams Of You Lyrics 15 years ago
As always Van paints a vivid picture of separation and regret - great imagery.

submissions
Van Morrison – Into The Mystic Lyrics 15 years ago
Van in superb voice on this song - he really held the notes back then and went right "Into the mystic" - good fog horn backing too!

Van Morrison – Madame George Lyrics 15 years ago
I think Bocca's suggestions are on the money - listen up you tranny obsessed pinkos.

submissions
Van Morrison – Saint Dominic's Preview Lyrics 15 years ago
There is a St. Dominic's Church in San Fran, where Van lived at the time - attended by people from all wlaks of life. As ever with Van, the allusion is subtle and mysterious.

Van Morrison – Madame George Lyrics 15 years ago
I guess it means whatever is important to you at the time but I assure you Van the Man did not write the song about a cross-dressing drug user. Have you considered taking a Rorschach inkblot test?

Eurythmics – Angel Lyrics 15 years ago
I think suicide may be correct but that of an older person, where 57 winters took their toll.

Bruce Springsteen – Born in the U.S.A. Lyrics 16 years ago
Subtlety isn't Americans' strong point - only Bush-ite Republicans could find this a patriotic celebration - quite the opposite, as indcated above.

submissions
Morrissey – Irish Blood, English Heart Lyrics 16 years ago
Oliver Cromwell brought ethnic cleansing to Ireland about 350 years ago - in the name of God.

Does that sound familiar?

submissions
Randy Newman – Political Science Lyrics 16 years ago
Tommyq - it's so true that if Randy played this song down South, he'd get cheers for all the wrong reasons. Same reasons Springsteen's Born in the USA was considered a war anthem - everything is grist to the rednecks' mill.

Yes too brilliantly satirical for Middle America - excuse me while I despair.

submissions
Van Morrison – Caravan Lyrics 16 years ago
Van's live performances often better than recorded vs - Warm Love (youtube Musikladen) is awesome, likewise Caravan in Last Waltz and Bring it on Home to Me (live album - absolutely manic and grat sax solo) - Van the Man!

submissions
Van Morrison – Saint Dominic's Preview Lyrics 16 years ago
Yes, indeed "Non, je ne regrette rien' as in Piaf.
Van was quiet a poet - not so much lately I regrette!

The Chicks – Travelin' Soldier Lyrics 17 years ago
As usual Americans don't get it - maybe if they were a bit more evolved there might be fewer of their soldiers dead in foreign wars that don't concern them (apart from getting oil for Haliburton).

War is hell and Cheney doesn't fight them.

submissions
Van Morrison – Brown Eyed Girl Lyrics 17 years ago
So many anally retentive damaged people - probably stupid Americans who voted for Cheney.

This is a beautiful love song - sorry if you were over potty trained.

submissions
The Chicks – Not Ready To Make Nice Lyrics 17 years ago
Cheney is the true evil doer - if Saddam got hanged why not him - he's killed far more people.

Van Morrison – Brown Eyed Girl Lyrics 17 years ago
The three most sustained attack on the realist tradition in 20th century.
James Joyce in literature, Samuel Beckett in theatre and Van Morrison in popular music.
All Irish, and the 3 chef d'oeuvre, Ulysses, Waiting for Godot and Astral Weeks, rejected and neglected on first appearance.

James Joyce in literature, Samuel Beckett in theatre and Van Morrison in popular music.
All Irish, and the 3 chef d'oeuvre, Ulysses, Waiting for Godot and Astral Weeks, rejected and neglected on first appearance, especially in their native land.

Cassandra Wilson has great cover of this too

submissions
Van Morrison – Madame George Lyrics 17 years ago
The first 2 interpretations are utter rubbish. This is stream of consciousness, based in Dublin and Belfast, where Van associates his older, drug taking ladyfrined with an interesting aunt he had called Madame Joy - they were both "into the mystic". The ending describes the pain and longin of leaving and in musical terms better than any other medium.
A classic

Van Morrison – Santa Fe Lyrics 17 years ago
Great groove to this - Van reflecting on what the US of A had done for him at that time.

Well done blue_meanie and Paega - I think Stipe wrote this before he came out and this is trying to tell his fans about his inner life, couched in dark imagery and metaphor.

Van Morrison – Saint Dominic's Preview Lyrics 17 years ago
A theme of dissolusionment also with the political situation in Northern-Ireland, which was terrible at the time - “chains, badges, flags and emblems” – refers to - Flags And Emblems Act of 1954 in Northern-Ireland forbade nationalists from outward display of Irish symbols e.g flag of Southern-Ireland.

It was most couragous of van to write/sing this, as it would be viewed as treachery by his peers in Northern-Ireland - a man before his time, as always.

submissions
Emmylou Harris – Boulder To Birmingham Lyrics 17 years ago
This is E. Harris 1st composed song - tremendously sad (when u know topic) but wondrously cataclysmic desert imagery and singing - reflecting on Parsons' death in the desert and caught between trajic memories and need to move on - "And I know there's life below, But all that it can show me
Is the prairie and the sky = emptiness.
Phenomenal backing, both vocally and musically - a classic.

Wonderful singing - apparently the Here Comes The Night chorus took about 40 takes but Van hits it like no one else.
Very primitive but effective backing.

Don McLean – American Pie Lyrics 18 years ago
Just observed/heard endured 3 American ladies of a certain age, in a pharmacy beside Gare de Lyon, Paris, who typified many of the ugly American features. The rule of 5 applied, they talked 5 times more loudly (why do Americans have to scream all the time? - believe it or not we are not in the least bit interested in what hemorrhoidal preparation they find most relieving), they seemed to be at least 5 times fatter (but more realistically perhaps 0.5) and at least 5 times morte stupid. Reminded me of the crass American foreign policy - barge in, ignore the natives and try to impose their will - then when a dart lands in their ass they wonder why and where from - why dont these people love us as much as we love ourselves? - believe me there are many good reasons!

Don McLean – Mountains O'Mourne Lyrics 18 years ago
When McLean did this song on an Irish TV talk show in the 1970s he had the whole country talking - a much loved folk song that was actually given mew life.

BTW - it is Mary "Mochree" - Gaelic Mo Chroi - meaning my heart (love).

Openminded soul and Mr. Taylor are just 2 more conspiracy theory paranoids. OK you had 9/11 - no need to lose your mind - look in the mirror and change things instead of retiring to the hills and forming vigilante groups.

Better still - get a passport and ticket to Europe and find out how civilised people live.
