In light of the music video I think it might just be about Dubya and his tenure as President. I think its as if he's speaking to America herself. He's faced a lot in office and had to tell lies or doctor the truth or whatever else for better or worse in war, recession, disaster, politics etc. He loves her, but he feels his time is up and hes praying to be let go. Authority and responsibility is a heavy load I think I take away. |

This song is about drugs but I dunno, i interpreted it rather differently to my context. When I was at Basic I had the girl I really liked, I thought about her incessantly and I suppose those same thoughts got me through the ordeal. It was our last 72 hours at Ft. Knox and we hadnt slept for two days, We had showered in nothing but sweat. we had made hallways scenes for regret in corrective PT, drama etc. My friends they come and in lines they go by. In marching, in lines we move. We had formed bonds in the barracks hallways and we had been ordered to sterilize the entire place. Leave no mark. So we poured gallons of bleach on the linoleum floors. We rested this chemistry on the hallways. As I did I began to realize I didnt need her, I needed only a few things anymore. So as I bleached the linoleum to porcelain, As we rested this chemistry on the floor, I wiped my mind of her, of what I thought I needed. We lived our lives with no pain, no weakness, just Yes Drill Sergeant, no Drill Sergeant, no excuse Drill Sergeant; three kinds of yes. they all meant that we would be affirming the Drill Sergeant's assumption that we were pukes. And then theres the rage, the want to engage in combat. Yet for all this, thoughts of the past broke through from time to time. Days in the sun. But that night we bleached the floor. This seems very Dr. Strangelove, or Cold War-esque. Silver Jets? Flying Rockets? Surfing Bombs? Surfing bombs just recalls that scene from "How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb" Where Major Guano releases the Bomb and rides it on to the Soviet missile site effectively dooming the world. I think though that this song portrays a bomber pilot who has been called to duty in nuclear war. He's saying goodbye to his love. He asks her not to be sad, dont make this worse than it is, just appreciate me while Im here, as...this is it. He tries to reassure her that he'll be back. He asks for her prayers and leaves to his plane. The rockets are flying, cities burning in thermonuclear heat as he throttles up and gets airborne. The mission is in full swing, unstoppable, and yet he thinks of his love who he will never see again.echnician and the ICBM its self |

I think its a great song and It brings up a lot yet... I dont think the song, or precisely, Metric understands when we live. Were not erasing history, people are inherently stupid as a collective, like goldfish...misdirection is increasingly effective. People are getting flooded with media...post a new numa numa video and dead soldiers are a thing of the past...pitiful I know and the use of such tactics is shameful. The point being that I think that they fail to realize that the world is a far more fast paced, dynamic area. There are wheels turning under the hood that people dont know of...The government does plan enemies, frankly afghanistan was impromptu, this was not the Arab country we thought we would invade. It was a small fish, or so we thought. The Wolfowitz doctrine mandated a bigger target, something to keep jihadist resources in the middle east rather than here. Afghanistan would have been enough in retrospect... Point being they are planned, but its not in misdirection or mal-intent, just idiocy in this case. |

I think its a convoy or somthing like that. Think of it in an abstract sense....sortof... HMMWVs and M1s in a line could be a sort of train.
