I'm pretty sure it's about how most guys will happily have relationships with girls who have nothing going for them but their looks. |

"Pulsing
With a familiar pain"
All the lyrics seem to point to E, except for that quote. Unless it's because he turns to E when he's in pain, to forget about it.
I like indiediane's comment lol |

The Mountain Goats – Dinu Lipatti's Bones Lyrics
| 15 years ago

pumkinhed...sounds like clean guitar+chorus effect. could be wrong, maybe it's very light flange.
i think the most effective part of the guitar is how it has the sound of the volume being high, but being strummed lightly. you can really hear the pick on the strings.
i actually didn't notice how great the guitar is in this song until i saw your comment and started listening to it... |

Porcupine Tree – Fear of a Blank Planet Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
Superdude - I find this to be an interesting comparison. I'm not sure I see quite as many parallels as you (not that I don't agree with you). Perhaps what's so interesting is how the parallels that they do share are so strong and yet they are such different people.
They're both numb and wondering why they can't feel anything. AP thinks that by striving to perfect his body that he will somehow become more human and that by killing others he will stimulate some sort of feeling. FOAB feels that he has tried to connect with people in the standard ways and that it has all been in vain. He really just gives up and accepts his numbness (convinced that there is no person inside) and eventually gives up entirely on life.
I think the biggest difference is that AP is born without emotion...he is truly a psychopath and has no compassion for other humans whatsoever. FOAB is a product of a broken home and a broken society (the whole album is such an interesting comment on growing up today in the computer age).
I'm glad you posted this...I wouldn't have thought of this otherwise... |

Porcupine Tree – The Creator Has A Mastertape Lyrics
| 17 years ago
|
i just noticed that nobody analyzed the 2nd verse...i think i might have an idea of what it means.
"The creator had a mastertape
But he left it in a cab"
I think this is referring to god, being the creator, and how he is supposed to be the one who creates and ends life (his mastertape). but god has lost the power to end life ("he left it in a cab") because the killer has taken that power into his own hands.
"I stared into the void tonight"
I think this line is meant to add imagery to the song. also staring into space for long periods of time is associated with schizophrenia.
"The best dream I ever had"
i think the dream he is referring to is killing his family. its as if he wasnt conscious while he was committing the act
this could be stretching it, but its all i could come up with |

Radiohead – 4 Minute Warning Lyrics

idunno about the london bombings thing...i just don't see thom singing about hiding from things like terrorsts. it sounds more like him wanting to hide from life in general. i know this doesn't sound like thom at all...so i think of it as being from the perspecive of somebody else. the whole "just like everybody" thing sounds like him attempting to conform to the culture around him, and not feeling right. also the whole nightmare thing hints to society being asleep...not aware of whats going on in reality. this is about thom wanting to wake up from the nightmare of the modern world.
i just pieced this together as typing...i'm probably completely wrong lol |

PJ Harvey – Pocket Knife Lyrics

i think its about more than just staying single...its about the shock of suddenly having responsibility, but still having people telling you what you should be doing. Shes freaking out about the people telling her what to do and saying that if shes going to fuck up, it should be from her own mistake. Or maybe its just about her wanting to be single...and im just describing my own situation... |

does anybody else think it sounds like thom is saying something in this? there is certainly a vocal part...and to me at least it sounds like he's saying something...unless its all just humming

Muse – Starlight Lyrics

actually, its not unlike muse to sing about love. endlessly, bliss, falling away with you (about the end of a relationship), and even hysteria (about him becoming obsessed over a hooker) are all songs about love in one way or another |

Radiohead – Videotape Lyrics

you can tell that thom has put his heart and soul into this song. i have a feeling that this might be the new street spirit to thom. if you havent heard what thom has to say about street spirit, its difficult for him to perform because its so powerful to him that he feels physically worn out after playing it.
im wondering who the "you" is. his wife/son or is it the fans? also what is the goodbye about? |

Radiohead – Ed's Scary Song Lyrics
|
this song is amazing...is it just a random experimental song or is it an actual b-side? actually, ed has some amazing vocal roles, but you can only experience them live because thom can double himself in the studio. my favorite is the "rain down" part in paranoid android where thom starts singing "that's it sir you're leaving" i also love ed's la la la's in street spirit |

Muse – Supermassive Black Hole Lyrics

this is muse doing whatever it takes to break away from being compared to radiohead. i cringed the first time i heard it...sounds like 'i turn my camera on' by spoon...if you hate it and are afraid the whole album is going to sound like it, go to muse's purevolume...youll find knights of cydonia, exo-politics, and city of delusion on there. surprisingly, they dont have supermassive black hole on there. |

then she realized that applied to more things in her life than just her lovelife |

Radiohead – Bishop's Robes Lyrics
|
i read that Thom wasnt the happiest kid at abingdon and was often bullied (his lazy eye probably didnt help). i would have been surprised if he hadnt written a song about his dislike for the traditional boarding school. perhapse bishop's robes was made a b-side because the song doesnt have any profound ideas and it is simply about his bad experiences at abingdon.
i spent a year at st. edwards school which is another boarding school right down the road from abingdon in oxford. i can completely relate to thom |

kid A is an intense, abstract, experimental album, treefingers is a "breather". its a relaxing track which makes listening to the cd from start to finish easier. this track is certainly not a "filler" is serves an important roll in kid A. hah i liked the shrooms story above^^^ |

Belle & Sebastian – Sukie in the Graveyard Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
this song is about living fast, but never getting anywhere as a result. the upbeat sound sounds like its from sukie's perspective. shes having fun and enjoying her young years, but its obvious in the story that she's not going to end up anywhere but the street
"She did brass rubbings, she learned you never had to press hard" -shes an underachiever, learning how to get what she wants with the least work possible
dave tells her that he can make her rich, but only gets used and never gets much from him.
the last verse concludes that her life is invested in her body, and when thats gone, she will be on the street...its a really sad song |

Muse – Hate This and I'll Love You Lyrics
| 18 years ago
|
isnt it a bit immature to start saying that your meaning is waaay better than the "bullshit" everybody else agrees on, then not give yourself any backing? i seriously doubt matt is saying he is the antichrist or whatever.
since many songs by muse are about relationships, especially ones which aren't going well or are just odd in one way or another, it is much more believable that this is about a relationship where he feels smothered and insulted by the way he has been mistreated and therefore wants revenge.
if what everybody else said is really bullshit, please, explain your reasoning...i really wanna hear it |

on wikipedia's list of songs about drugs, this song is listed under both heroin and coke.
What the hell, gotta rest
Aching pain in my chest
coke makes it impossible to sleep, and chest pains are common. ive noticed that a lot of their songs are mostly about heroin with a couple references to coke |
