this is one of the most heartwrenching, tearjerking songs I have ever heard.
the haunting bassoon parts are so perfect, too. but just everything about it feels so hopeless, exhausted, yet passive... I don't know, but it captures the emotion perfectly.
the story is so sad, and classic... man is at war, knows he's going to die, and is reminiscing about everything that he's going to have to leave, including his love for the militia's water(tea)girl, and he ponders the life that they COULD have had. |

This song makes me think of a man and his girl, saying it's time to end it, but he still wants to be there for her. He's giving her advice and he wants to help her get over him and move on. He's not trying to grow flowers in the desert of their relationship... but he can at least see the sun in the wintertime of struggle that they're going through. He's trying to get her to see it too and remember the good times; Feed off of those good times to stay alive. No matter where she goes, he'll still be with her, reminding her of that.
He does regret all of the strife that this is causing, though, acknowledging that getting out the pain by telling the truth maybe didn't matter as much as much as her feelings. But she can't stay there with all of her hopes shattered... she needs to move on. It's a big country. |

I'm pretty sure it's definitely not about self-mutilation in any way. It seems like a pretty direct reference of bloodletting to cool the body of a fever, like they did in medieval times... |

I think by serpent satellite he means, a satellite that is moving in a serpentine fashion, orbiting on a circuit back and forth and round and round. A lady going to every guy in every direction she can.
This song is about his frustration with his lady's promiscuous nature and/or cheating. |

He's from PA, she's from HI. She's gimmicky and follows all the fads and trends, but he sticks to his roots and does what's true to himself. They're complete opposites. He can't take her anymore; she doesn't understand him and his ways, and doesn't make any effort to try to. She doesn't even know what a fucking Wawa is. He can't take it anymore, and this is him contemplating/explaining why they'll never last. |
