The Chariot – Forgive Me Nashville Lyrics | 14 years ago |
He's also summing up the whole album in simple terms: "Basically, everything is going wrong And your only heart is gone It is out of reach and it's grown But you didn't break down You pressed on and you found out That everyone preaching God Had turned off all their lights Or they've buried their teeth inside A contradicting life" Simply, everything's not as it should be. Christians are living with a half-hearted faith. And everyone that should be doing the work of God is just as screwed up as the people they're preaching to. Just like the titles of the songs, our lives are a contradiction. People claiming to belong to God, refusing to let go of this world. |
Coldplay – Death Will Never Conquer Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It does sound very gospely to me, also very reminiscent of Ray Charles or Van Morrison. Perhaps a tribute to one of the them, like Til Kingdom Come was for Johnny Cash? |
Spoon – The Underdog Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song was in Cloverfield in the party scene. And now that I hear the lyrics, it makes it kinda chilling and foretelling.... "You got no time for the messenger, got no regard for the thing that you don't understand, you got no fear of the underdog, that's why you will not survive!" |
Five Iron Frenzy – On Distant Shores Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is one of those songs when I'm feeling like a worthless piece of crap, I just lift my eyes up and sing it out loud to God. This is one of the songs my friend wants me to play at his funeral =] |
The Mountain Goats – How to Embrace a Swamp Creature Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I see this one as similar to So Desperate. Knowing that there's something you need to say, something you need to get off your chest, but getting caught up in your emotions, which in turn just end up making the situation worse. You feel like crap, but you just can't seem to get out what you needed to say. Stupid female charm haha |
Lifehouse – Breathing Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"I can't believe people here are saying this song is about God simply because they are CHRISTIAN ROCK. Like..what the fuck, people? Just because they are christian rock doesn't mean every song they fucking sing is about god." True, but this song IS about God. And a few of the lyrics are wrong. "I'm finding my way back to sanity again Though I don't really know what I'm gonna do when I get there Take a breath and hold on tight Spin around one more time And gracefully fall back in the arms of grace" why would he refer to a girl that doesn't love him as the arms of grace? However, in 2 Corinthians 12: 8-10 it says "Three times I prayed to the Lord about this and asked him to take it away. But his answer was: 'My grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.' I am most happy, then, to be proud of my weaknesses, in order to feel the protection of Christ's power over me. I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and difficulties for Christ's sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong." "Cause I am hanging on every word you say And even if you don't wanna speak tonight That's alright, alright with me 'Cause I want nothing more than to sit Outside heaven's door and listen to you breathing Is where I wanna be Where I wanna be" 1 Samuel 3:1-4 "Now the young Samuel was the servant of the Lord before Eli. In those days the Lord kept his word secret from men; there was no open vision. And at that time, when Eli was resting in his place, now his eyes were becoming clouded so that he was not able to see, And the light of God was still burning, while Samuel was sleeping in the Temple of the Lord where the ark of God was, The voice of the Lord said Samuel's name; and he said, Here am I." Samuel had God's approval, and slept in the Temple, right next to the ark of God because that is where he loved to be. Right next to God. Even though he'd never heard his voice. Kind applies to what the singer is saying eh? "I'm looking past the shadows Of my mind into the truth and I'm trying to identify The voices in my head God, which one's you Let me feel one more time What if feels like to feel And break these callouses off me One more time" With all the voices and distractions around us, it becomes hard to tell what God wants us to do. He's asking God to break all the calloused pieces off of him, all the walls he's built up. So that he can feel who God really is one more time. Heb 12:1-2 "As for us, we have this large crowd of witnesses around us. So then, let us rid ourselves of everything that gets in the way, and of the sin which holds on to us so tightly, and let us run with determination the race that lies before us. Let us keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, on whom our faith depends from beginning to end. He did not give up because of the cross! On the contrary, because of the joy that was waiting for him, he thought nothing of the disgrace of dying on the cross, and he is now seated at the right side of God's throne." "Oh I don't want a thing from you Bet you're tired of me waiting for The SCRAPS to fall off of your table to the ground La da da da... Cause I just wanna be here now " Matthew 15:25-28 At this the woman came and fell at his feet. "Help me, sir!" she said. Jesus answered, "It isn't right to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs." "That's true, sir," she answered, "but even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from their masters' table." So Jesus answered her, "You are a woman of great faith! What you want will be done for you." And at that very moment her daughter was healed. Even though she wasn't one of God's chosen people, this woman had faith that Jesus would heal her daughter. The singer loves even to just wait for God to move, he loves the even the little things that God does for him. Hope that made sense. I was surprised no one saw the scriptural reference. God bless you =] |
Flyleaf – Something I Can Never Have (NIN cover) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"he can never be happy, and he felt happy with this person it's written out to. They took his pain away. And that person is always happy, but they're not the main focus in his life anymore, and he was happy until he grew depressed." And so it can't be interpreted with a Christian view point? When I read these lines I see total worship: "You make this all go away You make this all go away I'm down to just one thing And I'm starting to scare myself You make this all go away You make this all go away I just want something I just want something I can never have" Trent may have intended it to be about someone who made him happy, but it can mean something completely different for those with Christ in their lives. God takes away all our pain, when we're completely hopeless and have nothing left to live for. And I think you might be confused... most Jews completely deny Jesus Christ. They are still waiting for their Messiah to come and build his kingdom on earth. |
As I Lay Dying – Undefined Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think everyone else pretty much hit the nail on the head. I love this line though... "we once held undying devotion now dead to our thoughts, undefined like our love" We once had an idea of what real love looked like, and now all we have left is a twisted version of what we call "love" |
P.O.D. – Roots in Stereo (feat. Matisyahu) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"wow you guys are crazy christian ppl who listen to pod. i hate christians who think its the only "right" religion. this song is more than your jesus crap. i like it because its mixed with rock, rap and reggae and ppl cant appreciate that i guess" haha there's a difference between faith and religion. I'm a follower of Christ. A Jesus Freak. A "Little Christ". My identity is not in my religion, but in my risen Lord and Savior. |
As I Lay Dying – Behind Me Lies Another Fallen Soldier Lyrics | 16 years ago |
ShadowGhozt, notice the capital You's. This is obviously a worship song to God. Just because the title has the word soldier in it, doesn't make it a song about a soldier. Now about the title... I think that the "fallen soldiers" are the ones going through this life hopeless, dying for truth. "i am so ashamed of what i ever called my own take what i have, take these broken remains" The singer thanks God for the undeserved grace and love that has been given to him, when all he has to give is a broken trash heap of a man. |
My Chemical Romance – Welcome To The Black Parade Lyrics | 16 years ago |
*World, sorry. |
My Chemical Romance – Welcome To The Black Parade Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is about enduring through suffering, and remembering the lessons our loved ones taught us. About not conforming to what the word thinks is right, but sticking to what we believe in. Plain and simple. |
U2 – Love Rescue Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I don't think it's him turning from Christianity, but rather a faith that is stale and dead. He's turning to something real, something that changes lives. The scriptural reference is a verse that is often quoted by those going through trials, somewhat of a trite, empty comforter. When in trials all someone is really looking for is love. I found an interesting verse... Philippians 2:1 - "Your life in Christ makes you strong, and his love comforts you. You have fellowship with the Spirit, and you have kindness and compassion for one another." |

Casting Crowns – In Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |
All I can say is... amen. |
Casting Crowns – Lifesong Lyrics | 16 years ago |
To sheer, if what you say is true, then eventually all of humanity will fall to pieces, the sun will die, all life as we know it in our solar system will come to an end, and maybe eventually, the hopeless cycle will begin again. But even then, every word that has ever been spoken, every idea ever brought to light, and every moral thread ever followed will cease to hold any significance. But if what we believe is true, then just as Romans 14:11 says, "'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'Every knee will bow before me, every tongue will confess to God.'" None of your logic could remove me from the faith I have in my God, and I will stand with him leading me until the end. |
P.O.D. – Roots in Stereo (feat. Matisyahu) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Original Roots In Stereo So rep the streets you ride on. Chant them down with that rude boy sound, and watch the whole world lie down." We as Christians are not of this word, therefore, we "rep the streets we ride on" by telling people about Jesus Christ! And no one will ever be able to stop us =] |
Sixpence None the Richer – Melody Of You Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Her call is to sing of who God is and everything He's done, and she can see it in every song she writes, every note she sings =] |
Sixpence None the Richer – Still Burning Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Sound's like it's about having someone to help you stand when you can't do it yourself, someone to help stand when they can't do it themself =] |
Red – Let Go Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Why does it say "You love me, you..." then? The devil cannot love." i think it's more of the way he does his thing. Alot of times Satan makes it seem like what he's trying to get us to do is good for us. That's why the lyrics go: You love me You hate me You always want to take me It may seem like the little compromise we make won't have any effect on us, maybe even be good for us. But in the end, it just tears us down. Awesome song yo =] |

Flyleaf – Something I Can Never Have (NIN cover) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"it's a NIN song....I don't think it's about God.." Doesn't mean they can't make it about God. The band Showbread did a cover of "Head Like a Hole", and that was about God. Johnny Cash also did "Hurt", in which he sang about how everything he does will do nothing more than destroy all those around him, but God takes it all. Trent Reznor is an amazing song writer, he just hasn't found the true answer to his questions yet =] |
As I Lay Dying – Elegy Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"Josiah2097 you're on the right track! It's about Jesus and how he died. Also it really was about a friend who had died. Tim (the singer) Lost a dear friend, and wrote about them. But, it really seems it is about Jesus. He did and still has unrestrictive love and cares about everyone. You know that old thing." But ForeverAbandoned, Jesus didn't stay dead, and this song makes references about the person dying being at rest. =] I believe this song is about a friend dying, possibly a child? |
As I Lay Dying – The Pain Of Separation Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"I'm a 'nonchristian' and I'm well aware of what kind of band As I Lay Dying is. It is possible to have interests that lie in something that is different that you." But if people like ENi are "sick of hearing about jezus", then they're listening to the wrong band... And to Naive Amoeba, Romans 14:11 says "'As surely as I live,' says the Lord, 'EVERY knee will bow before me, EVERY tongue will confess that I am God.'" An awesome song of praise and desperation to Jesus Christ, wanting nothing more than to be home with him =] |

Skillet – Cycle Down Lyrics | 16 years ago |
We are covered in filth, always falling, never going to be good enough... and yet we are stuck here until the day we die. But with Jesus Christ, everything is washed away. We are not of this world, "on a higher ground", and He is what makes us different from everyone else on this earth, "my cure from the cycle down" |
Skillet – My Obsession Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This is by far my favorite Skillet song =] Hardcore worship yo... Laurim pretty much hit the nail on the head |
Skillet – Savior Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"What exactly does deophobic mean? I tried finding it on dictionary.com but I couldn't." I'm pretty sure it's "deitiphobic mind". It usually means a fear of God, but I think here it means fear of giving your life over to God. |
Skillet – Forsaken Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I just noticed something... "Why do I have to beg? When all that's left is a memory, Forsaken." Notice the comma. Is it us that feels forsaken, or is it that the memory of what we've done is forsaken? Either way, this song is about dwelling on the things you've done when you're already been forgiven by Jesus Christ. That is if you've given it over to him of course =] |
U2 – All I Want Is You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I'm gonna play this song for my wife on our wedding night =] |
Arcade Fire – Winter for a Year Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It does have a few references to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe... the whole year-long winter and jackets turning into branches. But I love the meaning he gives them: "Oh my god a winter for a year Oh my god a winter for a year And I cleaned out the back of my wardrobe for a year Jackets never turn into branches Not while you're not here" He's stuck in the neverending winter until his love returns, it's impossible to visit their magic place while she's gone. |
Arcade Fire – Intervention Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Going along the lines of it being a protest song, it also kinda reminds of the song "Hurricane" by Bob Dylan... the whole feel of the song reminds me of it for some reason. |
Arcade Fire – Wake Up Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Most of Arcade Fire's songs give me a sense of... tragic innocence. And this one is no different "Somethin' filled up my heart with nothin', someone told me not to cry. But now that I'm older, my heart's colder, and I can see that it's a lie." All his life, people have told him that he needs to be tough and not show his feelings, but now he sees that it's okay to show that emotion "Children wake up, hold your mistake up, before they turn the summer into dust. If the children don't grow up, our bodies get bigger but our hearts get torn up. We're just a million little god's causin rain storms turnin' every good thing to rust. I guess we'll just have to adjust." But with growing up, there's also the responsibility for the mistakes we make. If the children just grow up without knowing what they're doing, it's going to end up destroying them and everything they work towards, just like a god randomly throwing thunderbolts down to earth. "With my lighnin' bolts a glowin' I can see where I am goin' to be when the reaper he reaches and touches my hand. With my lighnin' bolts a glowin' I can see where I am goin’ With my lighnin' bolts a glowin' I can see where I am go-goin’ You better look out below!" But if they do take responsibility for the mistakes we make, and learn from them, we'll be able to see where our life is headed. We're still going to make mistakes, but they'll just give us more of the experience we need. |
Flyleaf – All Around Me Lyrics | 17 years ago |

P.O.D. – Bullet the Blue Sky (U2 cover) (feat. Lisa Papineau) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Holy poo! I didn't know POD did a cover of this song... |
P.O.D. – Find My Way Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think of just a conversation between God and someone searching for him... but the prodigal son parable works really well too. The first verse is directed at the person from God, the chorus is from the person to God, and the second verse is from the person to God. One of my favorite POD songs.... |
12 Stones – Broken Lyrics | 17 years ago |
** "christians are brainwashed wimps" BOX and live! Whoops XD |
12 Stones – Broken Lyrics | 17 years ago |
anyone who thinks POD is christian, sorry but u can't say you're a christian when you tour w/ ozzfest and make appearances on howard stern... -------- Does the word "evangelism" mean anything to you? Skillet, Norma Jean, Zao, and Demon Hunter all go on tours with secular bands too. Jesus hung out with some truely dispicable people... and even he was condemned by some for it. As for the cussing... like others have said, christians are not perfect. Just forgive them and go on. And as for you: "get a life you lousy wastes of fucking space, stop living your life like god damn androids and get out of the house and LIVE!!" I've found more life living for Jesus Christ than I could find anywhere else. The "life" you've found is going to lead you into nothing but destruction. Get out of YOUR "christians are brainwashed wimps" and live! |
Delirious? – History Maker Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Hum.... isn't it a prejudice to call all christians elitistic racist homophobes? I wonder if you've actually read what's written in God's word, or if you base your conclusions on the "christians" you see around you.... I'm gonna pray for you too, maybe you'll end up seeing what God can really do ^_^ |
Delirious? – My Glorious Lyrics | 17 years ago |
^_^ plain and simple, God is huge and amazing and nothing else comes close. |
Delirious? – All I Want is You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I LOOOOOOOVE All I Want Is You by U2.... delirious did a cover of it actually. BUT this is a different song! I think it's about how "religion" has kept us from the real point of the faith: to know and love Jesus Christ. We believe everything those who call themselves preachers tell us, without figuring it out for ourselves and becoming closer to God. I love these lines: Can I be free, from the chains of my religion? They wrap around my head and they blind my eyes of faith And I feel dangerous cause I hunger for the truth This tightrope's swinging high No turning back, teach me to fly We can get caught up walking the tightrope of religious doctrine, or we can jump off and work to what christianity really is. That's kinda what I think it means.... |
Relient K – Trademark Lyrics | 17 years ago |
that's actually a passage from the bible, i forget which one. one of the apostles said he never wanted to disobey the lord, and he'd cut off one of his arms if it did anything bad... ---------- Not quite... the verse is Matthew 5:30 and it says if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away because it is better to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. One of the Apostles never threatened to cut off his arm if it did anything bad... =P |
