I was also confused about "pale as a light bulb hanging on a wire sucking up to someone just to stoke the fire" - This is how I translate this line if you combine the two metaphors. " I'm kinda bored or lonely and I am just shooting the breeze with people just to make things more exciting." I can't forsake the dixie dead shake, so we danced the sidewalk clean - This means... Well... It's Mardi Gras and I might aswell be cordial and have a good time and dance in the same lame ass dance that people do here... What the hell? |

Well, whatewver it is about, one things can be certain. Canadian Bands know how to sing it. I think that because Canadians are often not required to sing about Love as part of their contracts it generates such an odd tpye of music. Most of it humourous, but some, if not most, are downright political or estranged. The Canadian who should be noted for sheer poetic genius is Leonard Cohen. Though, the Hip, and Gord, reach deep into me and define a sense of who I am as a Canadian. We know we are American jokes. We seem cowardly or whiney. But we are honourable, honest and resolute. We know that to act out of fear is to make mistakes. I could go on forever. Sufficed to say this song hits deep inside you. |

Actually it sounds very much like they are talking about John F Kennedy. Peter Pumpkinhead, refering obviously to being shot in the head and it exploding like a pumpkin. Plus he did have conflicts with the Vatican and other such people. And he was killed for trying to make the world a better place. Or so the 'conspiracies' say. |
