The Decemberists – Of Angels and Angles Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this is what i see...i had to interpret a song for an english class and i chose to look at this one... sunday bright bare room big bed white sheets down duvet all tangled there are angels in your angles lovers maybe not even of eachother just not fighters underwear there's a low moon caught in your tangles messy hair strawberries and cream or nothing at all (it's strawberries or nothing for all-day breakfast in bed) there's a tough word on your crossword she on her back his head on her stomach she holds the sunday puzzle laughter pencil 4-letter word for i want this there's a bedbug nipping a finger he's the bedbug her finger there's a swallow there's a calm open window songbird sudden natural silence there's a swallow there's a calm breeze drinking in beauty *swallow* satisfaction bodies at rest here's a hand to lay on your open palm today counting fingers and toes praying on digits finger rosaries and darling we go a-drowning down we go away awa-a-a-a-ay |

Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i agree casie. not asking you to embrace any particular faith-just those that have some. but, obviously this is just a suggestion. the guy on the cover is (i think) al capone. john wayne gacy jr is on the inside cover holding some eerie balloons. |
Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
casie, why shouldn't a piece of art have meaning? does that not sound ridiculous to you at all? what makes art art? its meaning. just because someone has some twisted aversion to a spiritual interpretation of a song doesn't mean it is not there. culture is the compliment of humanity and religion is the dress of culture, even if you don't believe in something--try to embrace those that do. |
Sufjan Stevens – Vito's Ordination Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
the title of the song gives it away, this is not a difficult song to interpret unless you are afraid of 'another Christian song by a Christian' i'm sorry but there are only so many ways to hide deep deep meanings in things that are obviously scriptural and the titlE: ORDINATION? come on kids, 'i called you' thats called vocation. 'i have called your name i have an idea placed in your mind to be a better man ive made a crown for you' no lover, save the Divine Lover, places ideas in their beloved's mind and creates a life for them! with, maybe. for, never. gorgeous song. |
Sufjan Stevens – To Be Alone with You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
windmills, what exactly is the problem with christians writing songs about Jesus? don't lovers write songs about love? music is about your heart so why not allow it to be? sufjan has a gift that allows him to sing as a christian and at the same time relate to non-christians...i don't see the issue here. |
Sufjan Stevens – The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! Lyrics | 18 years ago |
OKAY KIDS. when i saw sufjan in concert he explained this song so your prayers are answered :D it's about sufjan and his best friend at camp when he was younger. not necessarily a homosexual relationship-it's just the love between these two boys who are best friends! the predatory wasp of the palisades is an exaggeration; sufjan saw the shadow of a moth or something in his cabin and they exaggerated it, it turned into a game for them (you know, like little boys do!) BUT his friend DOES get stung by something and that is why he kisses him, where he's stung...i love the lines 'oh how i meant to tease him, oh how i meant no harm' which illustrates the perfect friendship between these kids and 'i am not quite sleeping, i am fast in bed' which to me is just a perfect line...he's not fast asleep but he is fast in bed...i love it. |

Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
whether you like it or not, it's impossible to hide your faith when you are passionate. whether you like the fact that sufjan IS or if you try to ignore it, you can't deny that it comes through in his songs, and it's entirely plausible and it makes total sense to me that what sufjan means when he says he is really just like JWG, is that he's a sinner too. airport and jady, i'm not saying im right but it's not unrealistic. faith is a chunk of your heart and so is music...just because he's not singing praise and worship songs doesn't mean there is no Christian influence. that's something even the artist can't really control. don't be so closed-minded. sufjan is everyone's. |
Sufjan Stevens – Casimir Pulaski Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |
the lines 'i remember at michael's house in the living room when you kissed my neck and i almost touched your blouse' are the height of innocence, and i think are far more beautiful than the deepest of passions...woodwell, i think i agree with what you;re saying about taking different things...there's definitely grief AND hope coming from sufjan in this song sometimes simultaneously...and insomnia, that's what i thought of the first time i heard this song...hm. i saw sufjan sing live in toronto in september and he almost choked-perfectly-during this song and i wept...this is my favourite of sufjan's songs and it's definitely an intimate song-i feel it in my heart when this song comes on. |
The Mountain Goats – Dance Music Lyrics | 18 years ago |
