I totally thought she was saying, "I'm a nice guy". It's comforting to know that I misheard that lyric.

I wonder if it's about a father's love for his daughter. At some point in time, he has to let her go...

I don't know. Just speculating.

Donnie Darko anyone? I think maybe so...

Spartan Fidelity – Pinpoint Lyrics 17 years ago
The part "pinned to the earth like the scars in my hand aren't you son" makes me think of Christ's crucifixion. It's probably not about this (the rest of the song doesn't go with that theme), but I like that line anyway....

I've never heard the Christ perspective on this song before...interesting...is Radiohead Christian or something? Or do they just like to incorporate spirituality into their lyrics?

Duude, Colderthanyou, alkaline is a metal. That doesn't even make sense. That's not what he's saying. So what I'm doing is trying to interpret other possible things Jesse could be saying. Maybe he is saying alkaline. I can hear that as a possibility, but logically, I can't say that it fits.

Brand New – Handcuffs Lyrics 17 years ago
Powersuit duude, don't take sarcasm for reality. OK? That's not even how I actually interpret the song (although I do believe the song is on a somewhat personal basis).

Hey, I wonder. Maybe after the demos leaked, Brand New read the blogs and saw everyone fighting over the lyrics and found it entertaining enough to purposely hold back the lyrics this time around, eh?

I love when he brings up Thomas (the doubter in the Bible who asked to see Jesus' hands before he'd believe that He rose again). Now in this song he's asking if Thomas doubts that Jesse was let into heaven - he's like, "No way! Prove it!"

Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics 17 years ago
Definitely the greatest Brand New song ever! I got it last Tuesday, and I've been listening to it nonstop since. I've learned the guitar parts, memorized the words, and I've been playing it/singing it/listening to it like.............a billion....if that makes sense.

Brand New – The Archers Bows Have Broken Lyrics 17 years ago
Okay, I have to admit that musically, I liked Untitled a lot more, but as far as the lyrics go, they're pretty equally awesome. The only reason that this album isn't blowing anyone away is because some of their best work got leaked onto the internet before it was finished. For most of those songs, that meant going back to the drawing board. Yeah, a couple of 'em made it, but those ones were vastly refirnished. Knowing that, I would have to say that this is an amazing album. Best ever? No, but it's really good, and considering the circumstances, it's much more than I expected from them. Props to you, Brand New!

Live – Mystery Lyrics 18 years ago
I love the lyric "Somehow this dime store ring still shines like a diamond to you." It reminds me of how worthless we are, but God still thinks the world of us...yeah. This whole song seems to be about God's mystery. Ed still doesn't understand, and he is amazed the more he analyzes God's character and such. So that's my take.

Live – The River Lyrics 18 years ago
Okay, so entertain this:

We are all sinners and have been torn apart by this world. So God says, "Child, come here and I will restore you. I will cleanse you."

Eh? Whatcha think? I'm thinking that THAT is the deeper meaning.

Live – Night of Nights Lyrics 18 years ago
I disagree. It's more than a love song. It's deeper than that. Throughout the new album, Ed uses the female to make analogies. He even said so in one of their podcasts. When he says that he gives "her" his love, he is (I believe) offering the world a solution: love.

"Tonight, the answer is clear; we are so far and so near"

He believes (like Bono) that mankind has finally gotten to a point where we can solve all of the worlds problems and show some love. I've caught this theme throughout the album AND I've noticed that Ed has sewn this theme throughout songs in the past as well. Ed wants to see change. He wants to see world peace. He wants to see the world united as brothers.

To me, this is one of the top four...no, top two songs on the new CD. The River of course takes the spotlight, but this song is awesome. The future is now - we're the only ones who can make a change, and we can only make that change now......awesome.

Definitely my favorite song on the album. I can't wait 'til the new one arrives. And for all you Aussies and Brits who think that America knows not of Silverchair, let me inform you: people are finally picking up. Their last album got a lot of attention and Daniel's work with The Dissociatives got them noticed too. So yes, America will soon give Silverchair the attention they deserve.

Coldplay – A Rush of Blood to the Head Lyrics 18 years ago
I only read the first page of comments, so I'm not sure if this has been said or not, but I think -- and this is only a thought that I entertained today while I was cleaning toilets -- that this song could be about post-modernism. He states a lot of ironies that in the end have no point. Kind of like the idea that nothing matters at all because there is no truth. Maybe he's saying that all this might just be a rush of blood to the head...yeah. I have no idea if I made that clear...and I don't know if it fits too well, but that's one I entertained today.

Ooops. Was I sounding pushy or snobby in that last comment. Shoot, I did. I didn't mean to come off that way, but I obviously did. I'm sorry Boa.

No, I haven't talked to Bono, but I just can't see how this isn't an metaphor for life. Yes, it beautifully captures New York City, but it's deeper than that. I guess you can look at it however, but hey, for me: I'm not going to back down from my thesis. Sorry for rubbing your face in the dirt though....

Brand New – Seventy Times 7 Lyrics 18 years ago
70 x 7 is a reference to forgiveness. Peter asked Jesus, "How many times should I forgive my brother? Seven?" (something like that, I'm trying to call it off the top of my head here...) and Jesus responded, "Not seven, Peter, but seventy times seven." He's basically saying that there should be no limit as to how many times you forgive. So Jesse is saying one of three things:

1. I know I should forgive you, but I won't

2. I've counted and you're past 490

3. I forgive you

Well....I don't know what he is anymore, but I think he leans towards Buddhism. He ditched the church in high school. Then he went on to Buddhism, but in recent interviews I've heard him talking about love, God, Christ, and Buddha......so, yeah....Ed's weird....but cool.

Live – The River Lyrics 18 years ago
But does this song end with just a "sex-meaning"? I mean, Dolphin's Cry was deeper than just "sex on a beach". Couldn't this song maybe also be about coming to God and giving up your burning skin for healing? I hear how it could be. I'm not saying that it is, but I do think that Ed tries to present double-meanings in a lot of his songs. You know, on the outside, there's something everyone can relate to. But deeper in the lyrics, he's talking about something that's very important to him...I don't know, just a thought...
