Gorillaz – El Mañana Lyrics | 18 years ago |
The song already had a sad feel to it. And then the video came out. I agree with hatrickpatrick and Kai on their thoughts, for the mostpart. Watching the video is rather shocking - even if you're not a huge follower of the band or a big fan of the characters. Just when you thought there at the end it couldn't get any worse, you get to watch what feels like major overkill. Yikes. |
Neil Young – Rockin' in the Free World Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Puerto Rico has zombies? Ahem. Anyway, I'd guess this song is about the contrast and irony present in the 'free world'. It doesn't say the US is Satan (even if some people claim this is the case), it doesn't say US is the Perfect Shining Beacon of Light among countries. In truth, the 'free world' has its good points and bad points as any country or group of people do, things that can be improved and fixed, and there is some irony there because in a lot of respects, the 'free world' is blind to itself and refuses to see its own problems. The US (red, white, and blue) is symbolic of the 'free world', but not the ONLY responsible party for this mentality. The 'anthem', 'keep on rockin' in the free world' is sort a repetative indicator of things continuing on as they have been. For good or for bad. |
VNV Nation – Homeward Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Another thought to add to the above, the title is 'Homeward' - as if the journey is back to where you belong. |
VNV Nation – Homeward Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I really like this song - it has a very 'visual' quality to the lyrics, like so many of VNV Nation's lyrics do. It can well be interpreted as being at sea - I can't help but think it's also about life in general. We have no 'stars' to guide us through life, no chart to indicate where we are to go.. and for many of us, we're far from parts of life that we may have left behind, but far from our destinations as well. Be strong and with your will you'll get there some day. |
VNV Nation – Chrome Lyrics | 18 years ago |
One reason I like VNV nation so much is that their song lyrics are very 'visual' in a sense, but also broad enough in meaning that you have to interpret what they're saying. They don't just spell everything out for you. To me this song feels like 'the consensus' as it were, the masses very possibly following a path of very physical greed and ambition, lies and deception, and nothing 'you' can say or do is going to change their mind or their path. |
Queensrÿche – Anybody Listening? Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is one of my favorites. It could be about the government, but it could be interpreted in a deeper sense - don't assume life and reality are what other people tell you, don't buy into the assumed reality, the masks that many people wear, what everyone else claims as 'truth' - find out yourself what's 'real'. |
Queensrÿche – Suite Sister Mary Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Very cool song. As Exodus5 says, Nicky is supposed to kill the priest and Mary. He doesn't kill her though - I don't know that Dr. X kills her; to be honest, I always got the impression she killed herself. Not sure about that - anyone know? |
Queensrÿche – Walk In The Shadows Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I agree with NightRider - this one makes me think of vampires -- along with London. I read somewhere that the song (either this or London, don't recall which) was influenced by Interview with the Vampire, but that may not be true. |
