Radiohead – All I Need Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song is clearly about the "dark" side of love. It is said, that when we experience love very intensively, we depreciate ourselves, putting the other first over ourselves. It's so wrong, yet it's love, so it also feels kinda right. I guess I have to agree with this song. Which sums up this feeling very nicely. |
Arcade Fire – Rococo Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Guys, I was born in 1981, when I look on the people that were born after 1986, It's exacly what I see: "rococo", too much style, and decor, not much more besides that. It's like everyone now is about not art but looks and esthetics. Sometimes I'm angry, but most of the time it makes me sad. It's like something has been lost, maybe some humility? That's what I feel when I listen to this song. |
Little Dragon – Feather Lyrics | 13 years ago |
is this a song about devotion? |
Yoko Kanno – Monochrome Lyrics | 15 years ago |
hey, I propose an interpretation that's closer to the show's content. Since it's GITS we're talking about, I feel that this song is more about a relationship between a man and a machine. It'a about an union between two worlds, one is an ocean of human soul, and the other is a cyber ocean of a machine. The part about emotions isn't that clear to me, I'm shuffling between two interpretations: One is that the relationship is disintegrating, and the person in this song is sad because of that, her emotions are hurt. As to what the cyber-ocean feels, we can't be sure. "The line : I hope you will make more lasting connections" Clearly signifies this. Somehow I feel that those words mean that the object of feelings of the person who sings the song doesn't have feelings in the end. So the entire union is just an illusion of the person, and machine doesn't feel anything. She's begginning to see that it's all inside her mind, and she treats a lifeless thing like an another person. Thus the monochrome of sadness. Second interpretation would mean that that althought the relationship is over, the machine gained something from it, emotions ("Who taught you emotions"). Also dreams, and an awerness of one's end (totality). So it become self aware, and left. The person is hurt but still hoping that maybe the new entity will find something better out there. The way we sometimes feel about someone we once loved but somewhow it wouldn't work out. Now the most important of both of those interpretations is the idea that we humans, longing for the machines to be alive, by showing them affection, and love, we can wake them up, somehow breathing the life into them. That idea, as crazy as it seems, is very visible in all of Masamune Shirrows work, and is prevailent in many episodes of GITS (it's most visible in the episode with diplomats son and his doll, and of course with Batou's treatment of non living things aka "the love to the machine" which in return wakes up Tachikomas with help of the mineral oil. I would put this song in this context, but of course the schizopfemia interpretation will work as well. Because the idea of the song is: is the person who's hurt crazy? or maybe it really had a relationship with a machine? I leave the answer to you. ps. I would kiss the ground that the Youko Kanno threads on, some songs on GITS OST's are just that great. :) |
Kings of Leon – Closer Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I still think it's: two thousand not two hundred. The number is important, because it clearly points towards religion. But it's not about religion, it's more about love, about the loss of it. I love the first part of the song oozes with anxiety. Words paint you a view, of when the hurricane is about to hit, the lines about the storm bubbling up on the sea kinda hint this out, and those swaying stop signs, plus phone lines being down. So with all that unrest, you feel that something bad is about to happen, lonliness possibly? It's coming. So what do you do in that sytuation? you doubt. You doubt in love, the worst part of it that you'll feel like that many times, because that's life: "driven by the strangle of veins". So you loose your will to live, yet biologically you still go on. That means you gotta go forward and look for something new. The idea of looking for ideal love, looks familliar to christianity doesn't it? where you struggle for faith for your entire life. That's why the two thousand might be the key to the song. |
The Verve – Judas Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I have to agree, so far it's my favorite song on the new album. Which somehow does't live to my expectations. I guess this song is fairly simple, just let go of your emotions let them ride you to someplace. Seems easy at the first glance, but in fact it's something really hard to do. I just can't understand what judas has to do with all of this. Any teories on that? |
Sufjan Stevens – Chicago Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I actually think that this song is about awe, the person in this song looses all his possesions, possibly because of those mistakes in his mind (sins maybe?). But he's not angry, because he's awed by the fact that everything moves forward and grows, then so can he. All those mistakes can be used to recreate himself, and move forward. And of course all this growth and movement in the world that causes it and people to continually change is an act of God. Thus the You in the beginning of the horus. p.s I was totally surprised when I heard the instrumental version of this song in the begining of "Little miss sunshine". When you think what this song is about, that is about the change that accurs while travelling, it's indeed a great idea to put this play this song. |
The Verve – Already There Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I personally think it's about the way you feel when you're listening to the music, how it touches your soul and makes you feel disconnected from the reality... you go to the world of your dreams and memories, and then when the music stops you return to the reality in an instant. At the same time it's so incredibly easy, you don't need drugs or meditation to reach this state. |
The Knife – We Share Our Mother's Health Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is clearly about the conflict between the enviromentalism and consumptionism, the female voice represents the first while the male voice represents the second. We came down from the north Blue hands and a torch Red wine and food for free A possibility We share our mothers' health It is what we've been dealt What's in it for me? Fine Then I'll agree Trees there will be Apples, fruits maybe You know what I fear The end is always near The utopia here is man couping with the nature, a simple life our ancestors led thousands of years ago. When food had to be grown, and the life was short, and unsure. This passage is song by a woman's voice because women are more intune with the nature than men can ever be (figure yourselves why is that). Say you like it Say you need it When you don't Looking better Shining brighter Than you do The part that is being sung by a man, cuts in suddenly, and is louder than the woman's voice. It clearly represents the ideas that are almost fundamental in our western culture: consumption ("say you need and want it when you don't") the constant improvement that makes our science, and the strife to become the best (being famous is a clear symbol of that, shining better than others, even when in fact, you're not better than an ordinary joe). Now the mens voice overpowers the female voice, that can be read as the dominance of men in the western culture, which pushed the woman back, at the same time pushed nature away. We made it submit to human needs, we produce more than we need, we have doctors and medicine so our lifes have greatly improved. But is everthing ok? the title of this song seems to hint that there is a price we pay for all of this. And that we have hurt the planet and ourselves in the process, thus "We share our Mothers Health" |
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – 666 Conducer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The general thought of this song to me is that you can also cause great deal of evil, when you're helping someone, and that's a really devious way of creating evil, exacly the kind the Devil would use. Sometimes we only think we're helping by making somebody's life easier, but that's just what we think and our help may cause this person a great deal of pain in the future. |
Kings of Leon – Ragoo Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I see this song differently. doesn't the author of this song accuse himself in the third person that what he says in his songs may not be true? Either way you caught me with your lyin You caught me with your lyin You caught me with my pants down In the two first verses I thinks he's saying: I'd like to change the world, so it would be more my way (kicking the door). But does he see all the facts, is his way really right? He's just a guy who parties all the time. And he is even glad that he doesn't know everything. He'd like to show the kids that even through they think now what are they doing, they might not seen the full picture. The lyrics in the songs they listen to, don't show the truth, but the world seen by the person who writes them. But if he said it straight like I do, he'll just appear as a square to the "kids" and they would not listen to him, that's why he encourages to listen his song. I guess that thought suggests the next line about his father, that he had a totally different life it seems, full of hardships, but in the end the author of the song doesn't like to listen to him as well, because he's old. And his life was totally different because he wasn't an artist. But the ironically the words of the father are worth more, because they come from someone who knows more about life then the author. In his songs, in this one to be exact, his saying that he may sound like he knows about life, but in the end he does not, it might be just an illusion. The last lines are a metaphor of this: We ain't even been to the ocean We been runnin barefoot through the street This song is clearly an irony towards the the band and what they do. And shows that the guys are modest, and still walk with their two legs firmly stuck to the ground. |
Broken Social Scene – Looks Just Like The Sun Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think it's about someone sleeping, daydreaming, the sun is a memory of someone, very strong, almost real, maybe painful when u look at it for too long? In short it's like the sun. Looks just like the sun, looks just like you Looks just like the sun, looks just like it Well, he looks just like the sun, looks just like you suddenly he wakes up, possibly afraid, at least he's nervous, I think that's why there's the gun in this sentence, it's more like a metaphor of his state of mind. Next lines are clearly about what does he see when he's up. The reality is catching up with him. But still he remembers his dream... But I'm breathing, thinking one.... Heart is pounding in his chest reaches suddenly for his gun ship is sailing in the west Flower that could be his fun.... Tree of families on his head weary red split open eyes I'm on the corner thinking about my bed bla bla something signifies(?)..... Turning back, you know I thought I knew, thought I knew someone He can't forget about this person, and the memory returns to him just like the sun does when it comes up gold and goes down red every day. He cannot forget it, it's just so important, like the sun is when it shines on us every day. Gold and red the colours change as you can't forget Turning back, you know I thought I knew, thought I knew someone You better check your words, I think it's time you left. The memory leaves him, but he feels empty, dark inside. It's obvious that his in suffering to everyone else, even to him, and it's like that... until the memory returns, just like the sun after the night. I think it's safe to assume that the memory keeps him alive, just like sun gives life to earth. To he, darkness still it's obvious to everyone darkness still, its obvious to everyone still it's obvious to every, well it looks just like the sun looks just like it So I think it's about about someone who still loves someone whom he had lost. The memory pains him, but at the same time sustains him. |
Arcade Fire – Cold Wind Lyrics | 18 years ago |
nice, I think you may be on to something :), I like it |
Yoko Kanno – Whats it for Lyrics | 18 years ago |
hey, just wanted to add that this song comes from GITS: SAC second gig ost .... |
Gorillaz – Dirty Harry Lyrics | 18 years ago |
well I kinda see this song in two parts, the first one is about people who take all the things for granted who dance in our rich safe world, and only feel scared of death and dying... so thats why they wanna keep a gun (I guess it's quite obvious that those verses are written as a protest for materialistic way of life, that's popular in US but in EU as well.) Who cares about those dying africans, or north koreans? they don't have a chance, because the were born in a worng place.... the other part of the song is about a soldier, that part everyone understands right, he sees all that we neglect to see, he's suffering, but why is he in the desert? to help others? no, just to secure our way of life. Anyways he's fed up with what he sees and wants to leave to his old way of life so he can dance again. The poor people are burning in the sun But they ain't got a chance.... That's the world we live in, I wouldn't blame only Bush for it because we're all equally guilty. |
Gorillaz – White Light Lyrics | 18 years ago |
when I hear this song I imagine a drunken guy, who's probably on something as well, just dancing in a club somwhere... he's completly concentrated on the music and drugs.... (alkohol being one of them as well) |
Arcade Fire – Cold Wind Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I like it no6655321, he's going somewhere, as a state of mind, cold wind is definitely a fear of dying, maybe he just wants to live his life to the full, try to find himself, bacause it seems the cold wind presses him onward, to... San Francisco, which could mean that he wants to attain freedom, because he wants to rest there (that's why the gravestone metaphore). (S.F was the hippie capital a while back) And if they ever find me Tell the papers And if someone finds him, that is truly understands him, let them spread the word about his motivation... the fear of dying? (cold wind) |
Sia – Breathe Me Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this is a song about loneliness, she's singing she hurt herself because she's alone again, she has been this way many times before, bacause she's all alone that's why she can't blame anyone else...: Help, I have done it again I have been here many times before Hurt myself again today And, the worst part is there's no-one else to blame Being alone is one of the biggest pains we endure in our life, she's suffering so much that now her needs are as basic as a small childs, she wants someone, anyone! just to hold her so she can feel closeness with another being. "Breathe me" ... like a ballon she breaths in, at the beggining, so she can be full, and strong again. Be my friend Hold me, wrap me up Unfold me I am small I'm needy Warm me up And breathe me that's for the song, now the show: The reason this song is being played when we see all the characters in six feet under age and die is because we always die alone, even if someone holds us by the hand when we go, we're still alone in our bodies. That's what you feel when you hear this song. But there's a birght side to all of this see, all the characters die alone, but they surrounded by great memories of people they love, so in the end they die happy. I myself would like to go like this.... I lack words to describe how smart and nice the ending of this show was, great summing up for a show about life and death. |
Yoko Kanno – Ask DNA Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I kinda think differently, for me this song is a kind of a joke, as it blames DNA for the all the flaws of our character, and how we transfer them on to our family, just like genes. |
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Weight of the World Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this song is about the taste of the life? and it is bitter, especially when we're alone |
The Beta Band – Space Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This song is so sweet!, when you get hurt by other people don't worry, there are so many of us that is a really insignificant thing. So move on! "The Milky Way results from the crowding of extremely faint stars" That's what is this song about. Plus I really love to hear the moment at the end when the piano kicks up to the synthethiser :). The only thing I don't like in this song that those guys try to be a bit pink floydish in the middle, not that it's a bad thing, but it doesn't work well for me in this song. |
Depeche Mode – Personal Jesus Lyrics | 18 years ago |
well I personally think that the line: you're own personal jesus suggests that the song is about being true to yourself. Each of us can be forgiving and good to yourself as Jesus was. Just reach and touch that place in yourself. The verse about the telephone suggests to me that the person who's singing is already there and wants you to know it. And he's showing you the way at the same time. |
Autolux – Here Comes Everybody Lyrics | 18 years ago |
my thoughts on this song, it's kind of hard to tell what this song is about. on the surface it seems like the 'you' in the song is a rebel or misfit in his/her peer group or school. they are acting like someone they are not to keep up a normal appearance. this stanza makes it obvious. yup I think so as well, but for me second verse has a totally different meaning: soft soft silver bang like a banks hydraulics the air it hangs its head and your cat has passed out you polished off your thoughts in the banks hydraulics soft soft silver bang when the vaults are all shut for me the banks hydraulics are a metaphor for the weight of thoughts that you feel when you're depressed. So for me the song is about a misfit, that may be just the person who has totally different view of the world from others that surround him. He has to be alone in his thoughts, because he's misunderstood. So he shuts off from his thoughts and puts on a fake smile, just to be with others. The rephraise just means that he likes to be down I guess. And maybe that's what others don't understand, so he has to be alone with it. |
Interpol – Next Exit Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this song is about moving to a different level of the ralationship? they leave the town, something small, cute and innocent and move into the big town with all it's complications, dangers, traffic :) (basically all that big cities have to offer). Great lyrics that. |
Interpol – Take You on a Cruise Lyrics | 18 years ago |
TenFour and Camarogirl both summed this song pretty nicely, I'd just like to drop few bits from myself. The song is about a rich, depressed guy. He's alone, he buys sex, but dreams of love and family. To fill the void in his life he tries to tell some girl that he's a great lover. He's luring her with those lines: along the way to star in the wake of delight there's nothing like this built today you'll never see a finer ship in your life But she sees thorugh him, she seems to notice who he really is: I see that you've come to resist me and the pit bull in time He knows who he is as well and he seems to suffer because of it: I am the scavenger it's me that dreams of union lately I can't tell for sure if the machines turn anyone He's person who can't feel anything but the void in his life. A machine with pointless existence. He dreams of love but in reality he isn't capable of feeling this feeling. That is his tragedy. baby don't you try to find me baby don't you try to fight baby don't you try to find me baby it will be alright And that's basically his reason, he refuses everyone to touch him inside. |
Living Colour – Cult of Personality Lyrics | 18 years ago |
you know, not every cult of personality is bad, let's take Jesus for example. But what is scary about it is how some people sacrifice their free will to follow it. Even now there are some mexicans who crusify themselves... why? |
Living Colour – Nothingness Lyrics | 18 years ago |
It's the one of the best song about loneliness that I know of. |
Living Colour – This Little Pig Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I like the humurous view on human beings striving in this song it's so funny, and true at the same time everyone is doing something... those who don't do anything.. better beware ! |
Richard Ashcroft – Science of Silence Lyrics | 18 years ago |
whoa... I'm really surprised by this song, It's somehow not the Richard Ashcroft I knew of before. He sings about happiness, and it seems he has found it in his family. It seems so simple... this song makes me somehow happier as well. |
Ian Brown – Getting High Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this song was played by stone roses ... so what is it doing here? (and I do KNOW that Ian Brown was in this band) |
The Verve – Lord, I Guess I'll Never Know Lyrics | 18 years ago |
it's not the deepest or the best song in the verve's "arsanal", but still I'm attracted to it, it's about the times when you feel uncertain of things that "should" be certain like when somebody loves you... does he/she really, really do ? |
The Verve – The Rolling People Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I'd say it's about a certain kind of people, who know where they're going and live their lives to the full. |
The Verve – Bittersweet Symphony Lyrics | 18 years ago |
xArcanum I guess your right, because that's what's shown in their video basically :). And I do love that video allright :). As for me this song means that humans have limits, and some things you just can't change or escape from. "Try to make ends meet , you're a slave to the money then you die." Trying to make ends meet, try to find somebody then you die. He wants to somehow do something different but..... he sees that in his mold his like milion others trying to do the same. "No change, I can change, I can change, I can change, but I'm here in my mould , I am here in my mould. And I'm a million different people from one day to the next I can't change my mould, no,no,no,no,no,no,no" Were all human and that's what being human is like. So trying to do something different is futile, this is the bitter part of life. On the other hand trying somehow to create something different makes you feel better because at least it gives you some uniquness in the crowd. So you should at least try. This may sound like an absurd but hey, life is bitter... On the other hand the sweet part is realising all those facts I have mentioned before. It makes you feel... "Well I've never prayed, But tonight I'm on my knees, yeah. I need to hear some sounds that recognise the pain in me, yeah. I let the melody shine, let it cleanse my mind , I feel free now. But the airwaves are clean and there's nobody singing to me now." Knowing all this makes you feel free. Because you're somehow above all this, yet inside as well. But moments like that are sweet because then you really feel human and being alive at the same time. |
The Verve – Never Wanna See You Cry Lyrics | 18 years ago |
This is the most beautiflul song I know. I love to listen to it when I'm really down and when I'm thinking that everything is senseless. I love how this song gives you hope, because it tells you that you're not alone, and you CAN win with yourself, you just gotta try. There's just so many things in life you can miss if you give up. Especially when there's someone who loves you. |
The Verve – Life's An Ocean Lyrics | 18 years ago |
What I love about Richard Ashcroft is his lyrics about being depressed. This song and especially the first verse is just IT. Life is an ocean filled with so many emotions that you sometimes cannot stand it. So you get overwealmed by your feelings and you start to sink. Life without feelings would be awful, but at the same time living with them is sometimes even worse. |
Willy Mason – All You Can Do Lyrics | 18 years ago |
another nice song from Willy, it's so great he sings about how our times feel. We're all so alone, we don't know what is right or wrong, everybody is searching for some meaning but there doesn't seem to be one. So most of us escape form reality by any means possible. All we can do is to hope that times will someday change, and the order will appear once again. |
Willy Mason – Hard Hand to Hold Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think this song is more about how hard it is to hold on other people. Relations with others are so very hard to keep. Nobody feels safe, and we're so alone thorugh our lives. Really, really good song. |
