ok runninggrace. the song is most definately about his frug problem but if u think that it's about that alone u're very naive. the song is written in a metaphor. if he wanted it to be exclusively about drugs he would've left the metaphor out. making the song about a moth means that the song can be applied to every addiction and leaving aniyrthing that caused you grief but you still couldnt get enough. i.e. a bad relationship, drugs, politics. the song's ambiguity is its strength. i think the song is about drugs a but about a lot more too |

i thought the song was about a failing relationship i.e. late in the hour and a few more grains of sand references that things are coming to an end, but there is still some time. He still wants to fix things and that is what the crack in the clouds bit means. the flowers are his memories of when times were good he looks to his family for support in the end he has tried and it aint his fault that things no longer work i.e. "i lay no blame myself". he's saying that he isnt gonna blame her himself but it's obvious tht it's her fault. in the end he finds it's his responsibility to move on "like a soldier" into the future or "the shape of things to come" |

OMFG. DONT YOU IDIOTS GET IT. IT'S ABOUT THE APOCOLYPSE! any real m use fan knows that Matt Belamy has an apocalypse theory. Notice that the title of the song is knights of cydonia and notice the sound of horses in the intro. NOW IF YOU CANT MAKE THE LNK TO THE FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCOLYPSE, THEN YOUR THE BIGGEST JACKASS I HAVE EVER MET. Muse dont give two shits about Bush and Blair coz the aint a political band. The song comes at the end of the album because the album is a story. The story of how the apocolypse will begin. Knights of Cydonia is the last song because logically THE END OF A STORY CANNOT BE AT THE BEGINNING BECAUSE THERE WOULD BE NO STORY. Muse are not a political band and i'm sick of explaining this to people. Matt Belamy has 4 interests: Mushroom, Guitar, Atheism and The Apocolypse. Notice that there is no reference to Bush or Blair. Muse have never played at a protest gig, they have never spoken about Bush or Blair even though they get asked regularly. Matt Said and i quote "It's not my business". It's a double entoundre. everything we say is about war but it is also about love MAP OF THE PROBLEMATIQUE = soldier doesnt feel right being in the war. all people are the same and he feels so alone SOLDIER'S POEM = soldier writes to his politicians about how wrong they are that when you truly look at everything, it makes no sense and that it is the politician's fault (reflects take a bow) INVINCIBLE = The same soldier from the previous song get's encouraged to fight to his death. He knows he will doe but he'll be remembered, he'll be loved and he will metaphorically "live on" i.e. "the soul is unbreakable" ASSASIN = A new generation of people are born, people who think differently, who realise they are told lies. they are called Assasins. people who tear down government EXOPOLITICS = Poltics begins to spread. the general public start thinking about what is happening CITY OF DELUSIONS = Everyone realises that there have been many lies and that the country is involved in sonething they shouldnt be HOODOO = another soldier(a commanding officer, someone who commands troops) is about to fight and he knows he will die. he is sorry for everything he has done and he is telling his troops that they can only hope that this doesnt happen again. that they were lied to and blinded by "a city of delusion" it's too late now, that they can only fight and pray KNIGHTS OF CYDONIA = the final battle has broken out, the apocolypse is upon us. Knights is a reference of the four horsemen of the apocolypse. Cydonia is a region on mars. The reference is because the Apocolypse is in the future and so some sort of futuristic reference is needed. Basicaly, The war has begun. The final apocolypse that the soldiers have prepared for through-out this album and was predicted on "absolution" has finally happened. The song means the Apocolypse is here. |

Absolution predicted an apocolypse and Black Holes is set right before the apocolypse. Basically the apocolypse is comming and it's the fault of the FICTIONAL politicians. And because everyone wiol die, so will they. so they will be punished for all they did wrong. nothing o do with Blair, nothing to do with Bush, Nothing to do with Iraq of Afghanistan. No contemporary references because Muse are real musicians and they never mix politics with music. So of course it doesnt stand up to the rest of their work coz it's not meant to be like their work, it's meant to be like queen. Personally i love the song because when you assess it for its own merits you realise that it's a very hard and complex song and Muse have done amazingly well. P.S. ok, let me break it down for all of you. The album is a continuation from Absolution. Matt has an apocolypse theory, the album absolution was an album that predicted the apocolypse and this album is set just before the apocoplypse. a war has broken out and ths is a poem from a soldier. (hence the title). this war is not the final war but one of the minor scurmishes. there is no contemprary parrallel coz Matt doesnt mix politics with his music coz he aint an idiot like green day. Basically he is saying he is God, hence the title "Megalomania" which is a disorder that entails believing yourself to be greater than any other person alive. Logically God is above all those alive and thus he is God in this song. The Chorus "take off your mask, i know that underneath it's me" is him saying exactly that.
