Marilyn Manson – Spade Lyrics 17 years ago
Okay I've looked at this song again and here is a breakdown analysis of what I think it means:

"The beauty spot was borrowed/now my sweet knife rusts tomorrow"

I think the beauty spot refers to the genitals of a woman as well as other parts, and if they were "borrowed", they were taken by someone else, meaning that she this woman cheated. The other man she was dating found out, so he kills her and his knife rusts with blood.

"I'm a confession that is waiting to be heard."
Self explanatory, nobody knows that he did this crime. so he is waiting to be heard.

"Run your empty rain down on me/whisper your deathbeat so softly."
I think the murderer was having troubes with his girlfriend and she would make empty threats like saying "I'll dump you, I'll cheat on you, I'll commit suicide" and he would get angry and sometimes think about using his knife.

"We bend our knees to the alter of my ego"

As if the murderer is saying to his girlfriend, knife in hand "You sahll succumb to me and do what I say or else......."

"You drained my heart and made a spade./There's still traces of you in my veins"

This means many things. as I said before, spades in the tarot were swords, so it's like she broke his heart when he found she was cheating. As someone else pointes out, a spade is a herat upside down, so he reversed his feelings on her.

Also, in the tarot, hearts were cups, and he says "You drained my heart" which would really mean "You drained my cup" like if he had a cup of wine for her on a date or smething which he drains because she doesn't show or something, idk.

Then there's the garden idea, involving bleeding hearts. The plant is ruined, but there are still traces of this person in the plant's veins, which is a methaphor for my other two theories.

"All my lillies mouthes are open/Like they're begging for dope
And hoping Their bitter petal chant,
"We can kick, you won't be back." "

The Lillies are the other girls who are in love with this man and know hope to start dating him now that he has no girlfriend, but at the same time threaten him with their knoledge that he killed the girl, they could "kick" him, as in have him executed because he murdered and he won't come back.

"I'm a diamond that is tired
Of all the faces I've acquired
We must secure the shadow
Ere the substance fades "

I think this is like years after he's commited his crime, and he's thinking about how nobody really knows at all, and he doesn;t want any one to find, so he must "secure the shadow ere the substance fades" in other words secure the former situation so none will EVER find out what he did and so everyone will forget, or fade.

"And we said, til we die"

I think he is thinking back and thinking how they said to eachother that they would be together till they died, which in a way, they were.

10 Years – Wasteland Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this so is about war, in particular, this war we're in right now or the Vietnam war. i think it's about how on the TV, news, and internet we see pictures and articles of the horrib things going on, detah, war, destruction. Everyone tries to censor it, but the person singing is saying if you censor it how will they know what it's like out there? They won't take it seriously, and one day they'll find otu anyway, so what's the point in censoring it? So this guy is changing his mind about censorship for probably his child. hence the chorus "Change my attemt, good intentions, Should/could I?"

Marilyn Manson – Obsequey (The Death Of Art) Lyrics 18 years ago
I thought about it more. it is kinda like Agustin said, about censorship. In an interview with marilyn manson he said something about not wanting to make "clean" edited versions of his music because it ruined it. Something like that.

In most cases, parents of children don't like they're children listening to "objectionable" music, especially Marilyn Manson. The children don't care, it doesn't poison their minds or anything, but the parents are paranoid. It's saying in the song that since parents are the ones who don't like it, that children should be the ones who should be permitted listen to it/watch it because they don't care.

As for the song's title Obsequy (The Death of Art), it's syaing when people try to censor works of art, like his, they "kill" it, they ruin it, they take away the message, and this is what Hitler had done during WWII, take away works of art, mainly by jews, that he didn't like, thus killing it. Marilyn Manson is saying how censorship is bad, and children should be permitted to view/listen to it if they want to.

I think "throwing your shapes" actually has to do with Picaso and the way his pictures had facial parts and other things randomly thrown across his paintings in places they don't belong. So if you interpreted this line, GO! GO! GO! Throw your shapes doppelgangers, your one of us!, It means:

Rebel! Rebel! Rebel! Don't do what your government tell you to do (how to dress, act, etc) be yourself and don't be like everyone else!!

Because if the government made you act in weird ways and were uniforms and esentially be like everyone else, everyone would have/be a doppelganger in a way. So if you're supposed to "throw your shapes" it mean be original, in short.

It's so obvious what this song is about, I can't belive you guys haven't gotten it, some have come close though:

Babble Babble means just talking random crap so yeah.

Bitch Bitch means complain about stuff like a Bitch in this case.

Rebel Rebel means when people go against something.

Sex Sex Sex doesn't need explaining.

Don't you see it? Where do you find all this stuff? IN MAINSTREAM MUSIC!!!

The verses talk about all the stupid crap that mainstream artists and rappers "sing" about. And the intro? "Everything has been said before There's nothing left to say anymore When it's all the same You can ask for it by name"? That's the point of view form a mainstream artist. They're syaing "Well everyone's done everything before, so let's just sing about shit".

And the chorus is the most obvious, it's Manson just telling everyone "Don't you guys see it!!! This is just the new shit!!! YOu don't get it, it's horibble, but you love it anyway!!!!"

In short it's about how mainstream sux and everyone likes it and stuff even though it's total shit we don't realise that and like it anyway.

Most of what other people are saying, but really, You have to see the music video. It explains alot. Like when she sings "You thought the mask..." she's in an elevator and there are these two preps and they say "Are you who we think you are?" and she smiles and shakes her head "no". But they're say "Yeah, she totally is!! Oh my god! She's so much older now!". It's about herself. She's created a false ego. Many people do this. They tell a little lie, then to cover that one up they tell another. Eventually people have them ALL wrong, and then they get exposed and feel horrible and want to die. At this point in the mmusic video she's trying to "kill" "herself" by smashing the mirror, screaming at the billboard, etc.

You drained my heart,
and made a spade.
But there's still traces of me
in your veins

I think this is just a referance to a garden. A bleeding heart is a plant, so it's like someone killied the plant. My second reason for thinking it's about a garden is of "and made a spade." A spade is a gardening tool, a pointy shovel. Also spades in a card deck originate from tarot when theywere originally swords. Swords stad hearts, or cut bleeding ones. And "there's still traces of me in your veins". I think this is his strongest metaphore in the song. From the outside it looks like love and then having it broken, but I thought of it as veins of a plant. The blood (BLEEDING hearts) is contained in the veins. And the lines remind me of poet Fredrich Holderlin, who opened his own veins one day to 'water a rose tree.'

Marilyn Manson – Sweet Dreams (Eurythmics cover) Lyrics 19 years ago
everyone says this is just a eurythmics cover, but if you listen closely, it's not.
"I wanna use you, and abuse you! I wanna know what's inside, you..."
Those lines were never in the eurythmics version. i dunno what he means, but i think it means something

Marilyn Manson – Doll-Dagga Buzz-Buzz Ziggety-Zag Lyrics 19 years ago
Sorry to all u ppl out there who's meanings r sooooooooooo wrong, but i did find the subliminal meaning on some perimitive site. It's just about, well, sex, drugs and rock & roll as the sayin does. Dagga is a plant that can be smoked, and Buzz-Buz is a hippie term meaning to get buzz from a substance, or getting high. And as for the Ziggety=Zag, Zig Zag were "rolling papers" that featured a bearded smoker on the label. Most of the earliy stuff is just about rock, and "bizzop" is a sexual slang term.

Marilyn Manson – Obsequey (The Death Of Art) Lyrics 19 years ago
Actually, I went 2 this one site and it said that The Death of Art is a decoding device for This Is the New S**t. It referes to Hitler and how he tried to kill the art of the Jews. He wanted ppl to be aware of the attribue they carried with them if they wanted art to "die"...
