wonderful song. i am not a big lil wayne fan either but i really like his flow on this song. dre sums the song up in the voiceover and he's dead on. Hollywood divorce. All the fresh styles always start off as a good little hood thing. Look at blues, rock, jazz, rap... Not even talking about music... Everything else too. By the time it reach Hollywood it's over. But it's cool. We just keep it goin and make new shit. its unfortunate that this song is too true |

i think it is obviously about proving people wrong. "You'll never walk alone" Liverpool FC. Great ending. And being that the song is about proving people wrong and overcoming etc etc. I think it is appropriate for the year liverpool had this year. |

azreal is right the girl used to go to this club that they played at all, the time and she was too young to be there (i think 17 or so) and she would try to fit in and be like everyone but she was still green to it all. "eemily tries, but misunderstands." also, the song was originally called 'free games for may' after a concert that was held in may in london for free. they ended up getting in trouble because the song was too trippy or whatever the hell margaret thatcher or whoever said (i cant remember exactly who.) |

| up the khyber means up the arse (as i saw it written since it was a brit that wrote it) but this song is not about that. it accompanies the movie that this is from where the charecters are going through the khyber pass which is a passage through the hindu kuch mountains leading from pakistan to afghanistan. tahts what he is talking about. | |

roger did all of the sounds with his voice (all of the little animal sounds) and the guy at the end is not known. The band has never said who it was though it is rumored to be a roadie or possibly storm thorgerson who did alot of the cover work for their albums. |

this is far and away my favorite song ever. im not going to begin to attempt to take a stab at trying to figure out what the lyrics are about though. As for the 2001 space odysey thing, i think i remember hearing something about stanley kubrick actually asking floyd to write the closing for the movie and when they wrote echoes and gave it to him he turned it down because it was too overpowering for the movie. it would take all of the emphasis off the film and put it on the soundtrack. I could be wrong on this but the song is def too overpowering for that movie and that sounds like kubrick. Also, the pings were made using a piano. I think it was richard wright that was messing around and came up with it. They de-tuned a piano string and plucked it to get the sound and then ran it through a rotating speaker in front of a mic. The sound was too hard to mimic when they recorded the song so they cleaned up the original sound and put it on the album. im not positive about if it was wright or not, but i remember reading about the piano thing somewhere. |
