Badly Drawn Boy – You Were Right Lyrics 18 years ago
I heard this song about 4 years ago on Conan. It was so inspirational, just the type of song that made you feel good the rest of the day. The version I heard was solo piano, and I've yet to find that version again.

Belle & Sebastian – If She Wants Me Lyrics 18 years ago
"I climbed the hill, I wanted to look down on you
But all I saw was twenty miles of wilderness so I went home"

He wanted to say I'm over you, but it backfired, since she didn't care.

John Prine – Sam Stone Lyrics 18 years ago
John Prine is definitely underrated. He has a talent to put obvious meanings in such poetic form. My favorite line is "Sweet Songs never last too long on broken radios." Does anyone know what "little pitchers have big ears" would mean?

Ben Folds – Rock Star Lyrics 18 years ago
I actually read that this song IS about a waiter/waitress. (I thought I remember seeing waiter). Anyway, if it is, it's really cool how being a waiter is similar to being a rockstar. You have to give the people what they want. The money's a little different I guess, but hey...

Bob Dylan – Tangled Up in Blue Lyrics 19 years ago
When she was working in a topless place, and she says "I thought you'd never say hello," she said
"You look like the silent type.", does anybody think Dylan means that she wants a fresh start, as if they had never met? Although from that verse, I get the sense that she had been expecting him. I like the part "Working for awhile on a fishing boat right outside of Delacroix." being I grew up across the river from there.

Iron & Wine – Jesus the Mexican Boy Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this means that we are supposed to be completely selfless, as Jesus was, and that we don't always appreciate the gifts we are given.
"Kissing my head like a brother and never asking why." After being betrayed "Naked the Judas in me." Sam Beam uses metaphor unlike anyone I've ever heard.
