Gorillaz – Pirate Jet Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is basically what all the album's about. Damon Alburn gave this telling remark: "I've always felt, I'm trying to get across on this new record, the idea that plastic, we see it as being against nature but it's come out of nature. We didn't create plastic, nature created plastic. And just seeing the snakes like living in the warmth of decomposing plastic bags. They like it. It was a strange kind of optimism that I felt... but trying to get that into pop music is a challenge, anyway. But important." Whether you disagree or not, apply this to Pirate Jet and it makes sense. The sound is dark, but yet optimistic. The image of the taps left on for a hundred years is a terrifying concept in our enviromentally concerned media fuelled, lets all fly to Copenhagen to save the world and fail miserably. The fact that 2-D sings that this is 'good news' is not ironic, but reflects Alburn's own strange optimism. I also think the lyric is the 'plastic creating people', which again portrays plastic as a creative force rather than a destructive one. For this to be the last song on the album, short and odd, totally turns everything we've heard on the album upside down; we've heard all kinds of awfulness about the Plastic Beach, and the concluding note is that, despite what we might think, it's actually a good thing. |
Coldplay – A Message Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Grungy Beatle, I'm a christian and very familiar with the bible and this isn't like the Song of Songs. However michikade you are dead right. The song does have a very poweful Christian interpretation. I know Coldplay aren't professing Christians but they have dabbled with such ideas in their songs before (i.e God Put a Smile Upon Your Face, Politik) so I don't feel bad about this interpretation. This song is about Jesus calling the race of mankind to himl My song is love Love to the loveless shown And it goes on You don't have to be alone Jesus is love. "Greater love has no man than this, that he lays down his life for his friend" Jesus laid down his life out of love for the whole humankind. The bible makes this quite clear and Jesus is stressing at the start of this song that love is what he offers. He is singing in the second verse any person in the human race: Your heavy heart Is made of stone And it's so hard to see you clearly You don't have to be on your own You don't have to be on your own The bible often talks about God 'hardening peoples hearts'. For example when Moses demanded of the Pharoh of Egypt 'LET MY PEOPLE GO' God hardened his heart so that he said 'NO'. God did this deliberately so that Pharoh would be overcome and dumbstruct in the end. However its not just God who hardens hearts. The Devil does, not wanting humans to receive God, we do ourselves as a human race not wanting to hear about things like love and grace because we have experienced their bitter side through loss of relatives and break downs of marriages etc. Yet through all these hard hearts, Jesus continues to call 'you don't have to be on your own' Then the chorus comes. Jesus said a lot of radical things in his time. He talked about how people would go to hell, how we have to love our enemies, humble ourselves, give up our lives in the service of him. Such things are incredibly difficult to do. So Jesus is affirming he meant what he said when he sings the line: And I'm not gonna take it back Oh I'm not gonna say I don't mean that But even so, he loves us, and wants us to come back to him. This is his message, or the 'good news' which is often talked about: You're the target that im aiming at Got to get that message home The next verse then repeats itself, but includes this line: But I'm on fire for you, clearly The fire is a reference to the Spirit of God/Holy Spirit/Holy Ghost. Just like the Holy Spirit makes him burn for us, he yearns for us to burn for him with the help of his spirit. Then there's this verse at the songs climax: And I'm not gonna stand and wait Not gonna leave it until its much too late On a platform I'm gonna stand and say That I'm nothing on my own And I love you, please come home Jesus is talkimg about his crucifixtion. The platform is Calvary, where he was crucified and it was there that he demonstrated how much he loved us. The cry 'please come home' is so powerful, he just wants us to reconcile and make up. Humankind has gone its own way and Jesus just wants to make up. |
Pink Floyd – Echoes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is one of Floyds most ambitious and progressive. It is an acquired taste, but if you can stomach the 23 minutes or so comfortably, its pretty sweet. For me, it makes for fantastic night time listening, and certain sections of it are pure genius. |
Electric Light Orchestra – Mr. Blue Sky Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Hillsong – Shout Unto God Lyrics | 18 years ago |
He does indeed. Amen. |
Arctic Monkeys – When the Sun Goes Down Lyrics | 18 years ago |
not just the video though. the lyrics make it quite clear: 'I wonder what went wrong So that she had to roam the streets She don't do major credit cards I doubt she does reciepts It's all not quite legitimite' 'She makes a subtle proposition Sorry love I'll have to turn you down' 'Because she must be fucking freezing Scantily clad beneath the clear night sky She don't stop in the winter winter ' A street prostitute obviously. 'And I've seen him with girls of the night He told Roxanne to put on her red light They're all infected but he'll be alright' The pimp. I think this song is trying to sympathise with the girl and criticise the pimp. 'Scummy man' says it all really... |
Arctic Monkeys – When the Sun Goes Down Lyrics | 18 years ago |
pimp and his prozzie. thats what its all about. some cool guitar in this song mind. |
Pink Floyd – Echoes Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Pink Floyd – Don't Leave Me Now Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I always thought this was to do with his mother, hence the 'oh babe' and the song is sung in the style of his mother. However it would make more sense if it were his wife singing it...interesting. |
U2 – I Will Follow Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Gorillaz – Last Living Souls Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Gorillaz – Last Living Souls Lyrics | 18 years ago |
brilliant song. possibly the best on the album |
Gorillaz – DARE Lyrics | 18 years ago |
ah yes. well spotted interesting fact. 'Dare' is the latin word meaning 'to give' |
Gorillaz – White Light Lyrics | 18 years ago |
On the album sleeve - the depiction for this song has a drunk holding a can which says: TOTAL FACE FUCK WHITE LIGHT CRACK BOOZE 500ml 100% Vol |
Gorillaz – DARE Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Having now listened to the entire album...I think its an ode to all the shit in the world. All the sex and all the drugs and all the drink etc. The whole album has a dirty feel to it. Apart from the last, perhaps last two songs which are about Demons and Heaven - bringing in the idea of a social conscience, non? |
Franz Ferdinand – Do You Want To Lyrics | 18 years ago |
What the heck is this song about? Apart from the 'I'm gonna make somebody love me' stuff. What the heck is with the arty friends and transmisson party? |
Evanescence – My Immortal Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Is an incredibly sad song |
Paul Young – Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
My first lyric post. I'm surprised that hardly anyones comment on Paul Young. WILMH(TMH) is one of his best |
Gorillaz – DARE Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Hang on - sorry Proto Cloud. You were right about the video I was wrong (woops!). Though I still think it's Murdoc's room (look at the door) |
Gorillaz – DARE Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Proto Cloud , it was in Murdoc's room not Noodle's and I think its Noodles who makes an appearence at the end. Anyway I reckon this song is about masturbation. Hence the porno-esque music. 'it's coming up it's coming up it's coming up it's coming up it's coming up it's coming up it's dare' Now, this can be intrpeted in two ways. First it could mean a penis becoming erect 'its coming up' or it could be the rush before an orgasm 'its coming up...(and then it happens) 'its dare' 'you've got to press it on you you just think it thats what you do baby' This is about thinking dirty thoughts that accompany masturbation - you don't actually have sex, you 'just think it...' 'jump with them all and move it jump back and forth' This is describing the fantasies; in the fantasies the person is moving about with allsorts of people doing sex. 'and feel like you were there yourself work it out' This is commenting on how the fantasies make it seem real. 'Work it out' is a way of phrasing ejaculation. And finally... 'never did no harm never did no harm' This is telling us that it doesn't do us any harm to masturbate. Whether you agree or not is of course up tp you |
Gorillaz – Feel Good Inc. Lyrics | 18 years ago |
O.K stop having a go at the rap. If it weren't for the rap it wouldn't make the chorus so brilliant. It's what creates the 'dirty' impression about the song and makes the windmill part so beautiful and dreamy and desirable. |
Coldplay – Politik Lyrics | 18 years ago |
''The "give me love over" part, near the end of the song is amazing it hits you like a wave. '' Damn right. That part makes me cry and I can't help thinking of African children |
Coldplay – Twisted Logic Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This is clearly a political song, as Martin said: 'It's all about the lyrics, and I'm proud of that song because it's angry and very dark and there's certain songs that I don't care what anyone says to us, we're going to do them anyway' I think it could be about MAKE TRADE FAIR, that would explain why the group wanted the song on the album so much as they are for MAKE TRADE FAIR (see the last page of the cover sleeve; the code reads MAKE TRADE FAIR) 'And tonight, rivers will run dry and not for the first time rivers will run' This is a reference to the poverty that the developing world is forced to live in (i.e inadequate water supplies) 'Hundreds, of years in the future it could be computers looking for life on Earth' Here, he is imagining a future where the third world has been killed by poverty and eventually due to no one to trade with the developed world has starved too. However, the developed world has become so advanced that the computers still live on, and spend their time 'looking for life on Earth' 'Don't fight for the wrong side Say what you feel like Say how you feel' Here, we are being challenged to DO something about it (i.e don't just go with the system, we shud 'say how (we) feel' 'You'll go backwards, but then you'll go forwards again You'll go backwards, but then you'll go...' This is about how the developing world currently have no hope at all. They go 'backwards' because they are being screwed out of decent trade but then now and again they'll 'go forwards' when they've been given a rare break. But in the grand scheme of things they can fare no better than this and they keep going 'backwards' and then 'forwards' until '(they) go' (i.e they die) 'Created, then drilled and invaded If somebody made it some will mess it up' This verse is about their civilisation. It was founded ('created') but then the richer world took advantage of it and they were powerless to do anything about it 'drilled and invaded....some will mess it up' 'And you are not wrong to ask who does this belong to It belongs to all of us' A message - if you feel any sense of injustice about this trade then you are right to think that. DO something about it. So thats my theory. Brilliant song anyway |
Coldplay – The Hardest Part Lyrics | 19 years ago |
X&Y is a brilliant album, but some songs are below par. This is the order from best to worst: Talk Speed of Sound Fix You Sqaure One White Shadows X&Y Low Twisted Logic Til Kingdom Come What If A Message Swallowed in the Sea The Hardest Part The last 3 are below par. Thats not to say they arent good - but Coldplay can do better than this. Thought Id write this here as this is the worst song on the album |
Gerry Rafferty – Baker Street Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Most songs have lyrical sections, with instrumentals to break it up. This song is the opposite - the awesome instrumental sections are broken up by verbal interludes. Awesome sax! |
Blur – Song 2 Lyrics | 19 years ago |
meetioeblack that is very intriguing. Class song though if you're one who is willing to overlook the lyrical content in favour of a good rhythm! LIVE ON GUITAR RIFFS! |
U2 – With or Without You Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I'm sure this song is about drugs. I read someone that it was second to The Police's 'Every Step You Take' in being the most misinterpreted love song of the 80's. |
Simple Minds – Don't You (Forget About Me) Lyrics | 19 years ago |
I first heard this song on the LIVE AID DVD. Simple Minds followed Queen and so had to work hard and they performed this song awesomely. I was greatly pleased to discover this song on a love album my parents have as I can now listen to it both live and as a recording. Brilliant. |
Queen – Liar Lyrics | 19 years ago |
Absolutely brilliant song with some class guitar. One of Queen's best. freddieismyqueen's right but I'm not fussed about the meaning - its a class song! |
Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This song probably has no meaning whatsoever. It probably did to start off with and then dear Freddie though it would be funny to add some 'Galileo(s)' in. Being that as it may, this is an absolutely beautiful song, from that wonderful piano medley backing up the 'Mama just killed a man' to the huge rocking anger of 'Oh baby can't do this to me baby'. Freddie's vocals are awesome (as are Roger and Brian's in the operatic section) and if you are not captivated by this song at any point then you seriously need to see a doctor. |
Queen – The Prophet's Song Lyrics | 19 years ago |
This isn't a nonsensical song. Brian May and Freddie Mercury always put lots of thought into their lyrics. Brian May who wrote the song studied astronomy was it? So thats what probably got him interested in the idea of prophesy - the stars. I haven't a clue what it's about, except I think May lavished at the oppurtunity to go OTT with vocal harmonies...something Queen are very good at doing (listen to Night at the Opera if you don't believe me!) This and Bohemian Rhapsody are Night of the Opera's two epics. Whether they were written with an operatic style in mind I don't know... When you get down to it, its simply Queen going OTT and sounding bloody brilliant for it! Ace song. |
