The meaning is obvious... but what a sweet song. 'Blue-eyed boy meets brown-eyed girl'... the sweetest thing.

Eurythmics – Love Is A Stranger Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about what love is. As society progresses and women reach parity in the work force, there is less 'need' for her to remain married. We're no longer concerned about the survival of the human race, that's for sure. So, now we're left with.. just love which, in a romantic sense, is a fairly recent invention. Marriage is no longer about need or survival... they're not arranged. We rely on 'love' to keep us together. The end result, folks move to Splitsville before you know it. You can't own people based on emotion.

Rihanna – SOS Lyrics 18 years ago
CORRECTION: "Common sense is out the door, can't seem to find THE LOCK"

In short, S.O.S. is simply a plead for help. She's sprung on a guy and she knows it/he is not good for her, but she can't control herself and her common sense leaves her when these feelings take over. She's looking for a 'lock' to make sure her common sense doesn't escape her again, so she's calling out for help. The phrase, 'Yes its a lesson and its based on my vanity' suggests that she knows this feeling is fueled by her wanting/needing him to like her. I think every 30-something who has lived and dated can appreciate her sentiments. ...and probably many a whole lot younger.

Michael Jackson – They Don't Care About Us Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is generally about discrimination and racism. He's whining about it, sure... and then sings, "Jew me" and "kike me". Anyone familiar with the history of many Jews in disproportionate power positions in Hollywood, politics, etc, will understand his point of reference. That's 'understand,' not agree with. Folks in power have the ability to shape a culture via the media and money.

Michael Jackson – Scream Lyrics 18 years ago
Not just about tabloids and haters, but about those who control the music and advertising industries. In his song, 'They Don't Care About Us,' he wrote, 'Jew me
Sue me Everybody Do me Kick me Kike me Don't you
Black or white me'. So, this was most likely about the managers, studio heads and controllers of Hollywood entertainment.

Third Eye Blind – Semi-Charmed Life Lyrics 18 years ago
i'm like the rest of the lot, i sang much of the chorus having no idea what crystal meth was back in '97. in my world, they were well before their time... now, i know exactly what they speak of. it was the pre-cursor or things to come in this country. i appreciate that it's not a preachy tone or even one of regret, just the missing and yearning that so many former users and wanna be former users have. even better, is how it's sandwiched in so cleverly and simply. real talented, now that i think about it. who knew that years later they'd be relating to such a broad swath of americana - either directly or via a friend or a date. hmm

Depeche Mode – Policy Of Truth Lyrics 19 years ago
'Truth' makes fun of 'Honesty is the best policy'. Quite simply, it isn't. And no one is completely honest. Excuses and exceptions are irrelevant - 'To spare someone's feeling'. No Mr.& Mrs. Morals-Hypocrite. We are all selfishly dishonest nearly every day and often times it saves OUR asses. We all know this; we all do it.... and then have the gall to ask for a mate who is completely honest. Depeche Mode is simply stating something that's dawned on all of us at numerous points in our lives when we 'bought' the going statement about honest/policy, and that is, "I should've lied". Might not make you feel good to admit, but it can sometimes to tell a lie. Besides, it's not the responsibility of truth to make anyone feel good. I rest.

Incognito – Still A Friend Of Mine Lyrics 19 years ago
Pretty obvious meaning, but the greatest part is that it speaks of love and heart and yet friendship. I dedicated this song to my best friend. We had a falling out of sorts, but then... we did the best we can to turn it around.

Zero 7 – Home Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm sure she has a specific meaning & it's pretty obvious, Because I've moved about the globe, I can really relate to the lyrics and the feeling of, not just being new/out of place, but 'losing on my own'. It's one thing to move to a new place and not know anyone. It's another to feel like you've lost a sense of home and aren't sure you can gain it back. She says 'as they're watching me' and 'we can be alone'. She wants to be saved. She's tired of everyone noticing, critiquing her. Anyone ever feel they can't make it on their own?

Me, too - lovin' it... & it needs to be repetitious. The sentiment is as simple as that; needs no other re-enforcement. WORK!

Zero 7 – Destiny Lyrics 19 years ago
"Watching porn in my hotel..." I love the ability to sing about reality, things that actually happen, and have it fit. Most lyrics are romanticized or 'airbrushed' like Mariah Carey's for example. In 'Destiny' the story simply seems to be of a longing for a loved one. Her relationship w/ some person has come to an end, but it seems to be tentative, if only in her mind. She's clinging to destiny that they'll be together again. Destiny is not knowing, however.

Zero 7 – Distractions Lyrics 19 years ago
This one's a no-brainer. I, too, feel as if she's mocking all the things we say we want in life... and how those very things so clearly aren't producing the happiness they're expected to produce. That divorce rates from the U.S. to Sweden are over 50% speak to this, and yet many still work their way towards this and cull their self-esteem from this ideal.

Zero 7 – In The Waiting Line Lyrics 19 years ago
She seems to be telling a story of working 9-5 - the daily, banal existence and how we all (particularly Americans - the longer-working and fewer-holidayed) all smile and pride themselves on being type-a, hard workers. The statement, "It doesn't seem to be anybody else who agrees with me " reflects this. She doesn't claim there is no one, just that it doesn't 'seem' so.

Sneaker Pimps – 6 Underground Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is about drugs. She's doing drugs w/ someone. They "falling from grace" seems to reference both sex and from being sober. 'Wear me out, scream and shout. Swear my time's never cheap' Seems like she just wants to escape to the underbelly... and drugs are the currency for body. Drugs give the illusion of bonding w/ another. So she says "don't think..." she can because she understands or that because they're talking they're friends 'overground' which is in sober life. As someone who has used drugs, I can attest to that mistake some users make - that a 'bond' while high translates into a bond 'overground'. This is the bigger meaning of the song to me. As for smaller points, 'head full of drought' may be a reference to how drugs like speed tend to dry you out. Obviously, the disturbing, dragging music and lazy voice suggest 'darkness,' but if you've ever used drugs, it's not a 'bad' or 'negative' thing - it's an escape... an escape that allows you to be frank w/o depressed... an escape that allows you to be the person you're not allowed to be - the unhappy. it's a way of going through a naturally occurring human emotion. when i hear it, it makes me long to be in that 'space'. and it has nothing to do w/ how well things are or are not going. to assume that is to not get it.
