The Doors – Five to One Lyrics 18 years ago
what you guys are saying about the war is absolutely correct. at the time that this song came out, there was great opposition to the vietnam war.

"five to one" is a reference to the ratio between the younger more progressive thinking "hippies" (5) compared to the (1) politicians, lawmakers, police, government... what have you. "they've got the guns but, we got the numbers" i think he's trying to say that they might have the power, but there are more of us, we can change things if we really want to.

the last part of the song "Your ballroom days are over, baby.Night is drawing near.Shadows of the eveningCrawl across the years. You walk across the floor With a flower in your hand. Trying to tell me no one understands Trade in your hours for a handful dimes Gonna make it, baby, in our prime." he's talking about the hippies growing up, and becoming complacant, turn in your hours for a handful of dimes... giving up the free spirited ways, and becoming a working consumer class of society. "gonna make it in our prime"

i have to say Jim Morrisson is a brilliant poet.

Nine Inch Nails – Sunspots Lyrics 19 years ago
i have to say this album continually amazes me, day in and day out. i think this is some of Trent Reznor's best work... here's my take on this song...

seeing how this album seems to be geared towards current situations, ie: War in Iraq, Patriot Act; i feel this album has a very Orwellian "1984" feel to it. almost calling on people to stand up and take back their own freedom/rights. (hand that feeds, right where it belongs).

moreso than it being about society, i personally think this song is more about God. the "she" he is refering to, i think is God, creator, mother earth, however you want to see it, i know the word God can have a stigma attached sometimes, so don't get me wrong... and i'm not refering to the Christian GOD.

self-reflection, the destruction of your ego - "Peel off our skin, we're gonna burn what we were to the ground".

it sounds like he's talking about the path that he's taken in life, going against traditional views, defining life for himself, finding all the answers to life in himself - "And nothing can stop me now (stop me now) There is nothing to fear (fear) And everything I'd ever want (ever want) Is inside of here (of here)".

Marilyn Manson – Cryptorchid Lyrics 19 years ago
i have to agree, this is lyrically and amazing song...

i had never heard before that the age of 7 is considered innocent in christianity... thanks {heirophant}, i will look into this more...

i did want to point out, that from my interpretation.... the number 7 is a reference to GOD. when a boy is still a worm, it's hard to learn the number 7... i take as, it's hard to understand what the real meaning of GOD is when you are younger, and innocent, and "brainwashed."

Marilyn Manson – The Reflecting God Lyrics 19 years ago
a lot of good insights... :)

has anyone read "The Four Agreements", or anything about the Totec way of life? i think the first part of this songs has a similar view... (not saying this is where it came from)... but a view that the world is a big mess of people who are poisoned, with scars (pain), who keep hurting one another more and more, creating more scars... some of which, the result of christianity (leeches, virgins). a dream inside a dream.

the part i find interesting... and which i think is the main point of the song, the reflecting god... "I went to god just to see, and I was looking at me, saw heaven and hell were lies". I know personally that MM has looked into a lot of different various religions and philosophies, and this reminds me of "Kashmir Shaivism" which is a sort of offshoot of Hinduism. Anyways... the reflecting god... he went to god, and was looking at himself... if you look into this philosophy, you will understand what he is talking about.

and the part about the scars, and shooting... the more christian groups attack him, the stronger he gets, the more kids will listen to him, so he's saying "shoot away, hurt me as much as you want, you're only making it worse for yourself, and helping me aceive my goal."

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Road Trippin' Lyrics 19 years ago
soundoffury1031..... you're absolutely right.....

while many of the RHCP songs are about drugs... this one isn't necessarily so... For those of you who don't live in the city of angeles or California for that matter... please note that he's is mostly talking about his love for the ocean. "Blue" is the Pacific Ocean, which sits west of Highway 1 "one". The waves of the ocean sparkle with light, and the reflection of the sun... yellow icing. The "smiling" eyes are the curved ripples in the waves that resemble smiles, which also reflect the sun.

Anthony Kiedis is a bigtime surfer, with much love for the Pacific Ocean.

His "two favorite allies"... are his two best friends... hence the "we three hunky dorks"... and "Big Sur" is a small get away town just south of Santa Cruz and San Francisco.

as far as drug references.... notice he says... "staying high and dry's more trouble than it's worth"... left up to interpretation. "so much has come before those battles lost and won, this life is shining more forever in the sun".

i think for the most part he's just talking about getting away from the chaos of life, and living in the city... going surfing, on a road trip with his two buddies....

it is a beautiful song.
