Tool – Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann) Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is an obvious prequel for Rosetta Stoned. Rosetta Stoned is what the patient is telling the doctor. I've heard some rumors that if you listen to Lost Keys backwards, you can hear some things Maynard is saying. Who knows though...

Panic! at the Disco – Build God, Then We'll Talk Lyrics 18 years ago
From this song, I can kind of get references from three of Palahniuk's books... The title is obviously from Choke, the raindrops on roses is from Fight Club, and I also think it involves Invisible Monsters-- I get reminded of it from this part:
"Well after he had left
As she was fixing her face in a compact,
There was a terrible crash"
Since in that book, that happens... soo yeah, I don't know- I just love that they tie in the books to the songs.

Jack Johnson – Belle Lyrics 19 years ago
The first two lines are Italian, basically asking "Hey beautiful, what's up?" The next lines are Spanish basically saying the same thing. The next language is French and he says he doesn't speak it so she'll have to say it a different way. If you ask me, he's talking about kissing. He's saying that I don't understand what you're saying, so just kiss me, because I can understand that. Kissing: The universal language.

The Union Underground – Revolution Man Lyrics 19 years ago
I definitely think this song has something to do w/ Lennon also-- mainly because of "Lucy's in the sky again, trippin on her diamonds" and also a quote from Imagine: "Imagine all the people". When I first heard this song, I noticed that quote from Imagine and found it curious and now I really do think it has to do w/ Lennon but I think it might be talking about other things too-- like Jesus and stuff.

Nine Inch Nails – The Hand That Feeds Lyrics 19 years ago
I don't really know why everyone is so against this song. I think it's good. Obviously, it's about Bush and America in general. I know people are getting sick of hearing about it, but it can't be avoided. Musical artists know what it feels like to be taken advantage of and used. They don't want it to happen to all of us to by the government, so they are trying to use their voice and influence to wake up the young adults of America. @ the beginning of the song, he's obviously talking about those who join/support the army because it makes them feel good about themselves. It makes them think "Yeah, I'm doing something for my country. I'm not fighting against them." And so he's commenting that you think you're doing such good things, but in reality, you're killing innocent people in Iraq. I think he's saying you have a cold hollow heart if you can feel good about all of this Iraq business. The chorus basically is saying "Yeah, you may say that you disagree w/ the war, but how far would you go to end it?" He's basically speaking to those people who say "I hate the war in Iraq!" but you don't really do anything about it. He's asking if you'll actually do something about it, or if you're just going to bitch and complain while it goes on. To sum it up: Do you have the balls to stand up to the government? That's what he's getting @. The 2nd verse is asking if this whole thing we're diong for Iraq is really as good and holy as they say it is. They say they are doing this to help them because that's the Christian thing to do and it's our responsibility. I doubt the government would spend trillions of dollars just to help a country on the other side of the war. They should try to take care of their own people first. I think this song is good. He just wants people to wake up and see what's going on around them.
...the reason he probably has such simple lyrics is because he didn't want to exclude those who can't understand the meaning of lyrics in songs unless they are spelled out to them.

System of a Down – Radio/Video Lyrics 19 years ago
Ok, I might be completely* wrong on this... but... until I just read these messages posted, I always thought "Sweet Danny and Lisa" stood for "LSD". I thought the song was kinda about drugs and I figured that Sweet Danny and Lisa could be rearranged to spell "LSD". I thought they were doing something like "Lucy in the Sky w/ Diamonds" ya know? Anyway, maybe I'm just being stupid, but that's what I always thought it was about. (To me) The lyrics would fit w/ it being about LSD. ("They take me away from the stranges places...") Maybe I'm wrong though...

System of a Down – B.Y.O.B. Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this is a great song. A lot of people have said that "BYOB" stands for "Bring Your Own Bomb", however, I believe it stands for "Bring Your Own Body". It talks about how the government depends on the poor to fight the war- even though it should be the people in charge who are taking care of us. The government kinda exploits the poor. They say that if you join the army for 2 years, they'll pay for you to go to college. Well how is college going to help you if you die during those 2 years? You don't see very many rich kids doing that. I think it is* good that poor people do have the opportunity to get an education, I just think it does look strange when it seems like everyone that is fighting this war is poor people. They compare the war/government to the people who have "BYOB" parties, being like "You can be here, but we're not going to take care of you or help you out". I think this song has a really good message and people should stop being so blind.

311 – Crack The Code Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is one that a lot of people can relate to. People try to have relationships but either one or both of them can't communicate how they are feeling. You know when you've found that special person when they can understand what you're trying to say w/o you spelling it out for them. I think that's what this song is about.

Jimmy Eat World – Night Drive Lyrics 19 years ago
Ok, after reading all of these different comments, I feel obligated to give my opinion on the song (if anyone even cares)... So I'll try to go step by step and show my thinking of how it all works... (Btw- I will be going through it with the CORRECT* lyrics, unlike the ones that are posted @ the top) So here we go:
"Lay back baby and we’ll do this right
There’s blankets in back we can use
I’ll start the car, but we’ll stay in park
the cold can kill us before fumes"
-Ok, so basically I think it's starting out with a guy and a girl in the car. The guy is trying really hard to make everything right cuz they are in the mood to have sex. The "cold can kill us before fumes" is saying that it is SO cold outside that it is more dangerous to be out in the cold weather rather than breathing in fumes from a car in park... *It's only giving the setting- I dont' think it has to do w/ suicide*
"Now’s the right time for a good song
Got something to say what I can’t
Do you feel bad, like I feel bad?
pour us a road, we’ll both drink and drive"
-I think one of the major themes of this song is that these 2 people are in a relationship but they don't get along and they are constantly fighting. They decide that maybe if they start drinking, they won't start fighting and they'll just be able to have sex. So I think that this part of the song says that they both have done wrong things or things that have bothered one another, but he's going to try to avoid starting another fight and ruining the mood by just not saying what he wants to say. So they decide to drink instead of talk out their problems.
"Kiss me with your cherry lipstick
Never wash you off my face
Hit me I can take your cheap shots
leave you with the love we made"
-At this part, I have trouble deciding what I think. The first two lines can be read into as extremely* sexual (without getting too graphic, I'm thinking oral...) or they can just be thought of as him enjoying her kisses. The 3rd line I believe is talking about how his girlfriend always makes him feel bad about himself. Like for example, maybe he cheated on her so she brings it up all the time (taking "cheap shots") or something like that. I think that he's basically saying that you can go ahead and ruin the mood, cuz he knows she's going to.
"Come alive on the driver’s side
So close I taste your breath
Your lips go dry, but they’re sweet inside
wine must go right to your head"
-At this point, I think he is saying that she is trying to kiss him and be sweet and that he doesn't even recognize the person next to him. Like wine is making her act loving- which she normally never is.
"It’d be easy if you get mad
But three fingers point back to you
We could stay here
Stay out all night
No one will know
Us and the moonlight"
-At this point, I think it's saying that she blames him all the time for everything-- but actually it's her fault too. There is a saying "Everytime you point your finger at someone, three point back @ you" (Go ahead and point your finger and look @ your hand, you'll see what it means) I definitely dont' think it has to do w/ fingering a girl or flipping off a girl. I think it's that she puts the blame on him all the time, when it's her fault too. I also think that he's trying to get her to stay out all nite cuz he thinks if he has her out there long enough, they'll get around to having sex and forgetting their problems for the night.
"I set my watch by a street-side clock
a Needle in echo groove
You pierce my heart like a willing arm
Your ticking makes my blood move
There’s no way out
This fade out
Be Happy to get what you do"
-I think this part is misunderstood a lot. I'm not saying I'm right, but it sounds to me that this whole part is about how he is running out of time. In the previous verse, he was trying to get her to stay out all nite. Although now, he's talking about looking @ his clock and he sounds upset cuz he knows he'll have to take her home soon. Think about it... he talks about "your ticking makes my blood move". Clocks tick, so maybe he's saying "the clock's ticking is making my blood move" ya know? So I think this part is that he knows they are running out of time and his girlfriend doesn't pay attention. She is wasting time by getting mad @ him instead of taking advantage of the time they have together. And he can't just tell her to "shut up", so thereis "no way out" And he's saying "be happy to get what you do" cuz he thinks he may as well appreciate what little he did get from her.
"Make him notice
With both fists
Cause' quiting alone will never get you dry
Never get you dry"
-I don't really understand this part perfectly. I think she is still attacking him w/ blame, but he knows that if she were to give in to temptation, she would have a good time too. So he's saying he knows she's ready to mess around, but she won't let go of blaming. So he's saying that you better just put that on pause cuz he knows she's wanting to mess around.
"Give Me Everything You Got Now
I don’t feel a single thing
Drag me out into the cold rain
Let it hover over me"
-Now I think he's like "Screw it, time is up, I'm giving up" Like I think he's sick of trying to get her in the mood b/c all she is doing is blaming him for everything. So he's like "Just put me out in the cold rain and let EVERYTHING bad be put on me" And so he's like "Give me everything you've got" like "I've heard all of thsi before, but keep going."
It's a really sad song, but definitely a beautiful one. To me, Futures (the CD) seems to talk a lot about relationships going sour. Like "Drugs or Me", it seems to talk about how someone you know is a stranger now. I think that applys to this song too. I could be COMPLETELY wrong on all of this, so sorry if I am... but that's how I see it!
