The Zombies – Hung Up On A Dream Lyrics
|
It's Odessey and Oracle, and this song in particular, that make me lament that the Zombies didn't get their fair crack at music. They could have been as good as the Beatles, the Byrds, or the Beach Boys, but the public didn't give them the chance and they quit. CBS records totally screwed them and pushed them into obscurity, in my opinion. This entire record was genius and pushed the limits of the studio 4 track. A shame it ended the way it did, but they went out on top, or as on top as they could manage, and gave us a great album. |

Talking Heads – Listening Wind Lyrics

Such a terrifying song. Out of all of Remain in Light, which is all pretty awesome, I think it's this or Born Under Punches that's my favorite.
I think most of us might automatically assume Mojique is of Middle Eastern descent but the name seems more African or Native American in nature now that I think about it and read the above comments. Did those two other posters find out for sure it's about a Native American terrorist? I can't find any official info on it. I hear "marketplace" and "free trade zone" and think Africa for some reason.
There is something sacred about the song. The chorus feels like a mantra replaying over and over in Mojique's mind. |

Björk – Cocoon Lyrics

just about sex? sex is a wonderful and beautiful thing. it can be incredibly dirty and naughty, or it can be something that connects you with your partner on a different plane. he shares her core, which i take to be the deepest parts of her sexual organs, and stays with her afterwards, lulling into dreamy post coitus.
those who say the song isn't about sex are party right. Bjork might never make a song that's 'just about sex.' She's going to make it about the beautiful wonders of sex. |

Donovan – Three Kingfishers Lyrics

There appears to be a typo on the record, as the title is indeed Three Kingfishers, but in the song Donovan sings Twelve Kingfishers.
Beautiful lyrics and great use of sitar and hand percussion. Very psychedelic lyrics. |

I'm not big on the stuff, but I would love to smoke a bit with this on my ipod and take a walk. Maybe throw in some Donovan, too. Yeah...
But you don't need drugs to feel it happenin' in this tune, dig it? |

As a Cure fan, I dislike their covers anyways. The reason people think The Cure covered this is because it's often mislabeled on file sharing programs and P2P networks.
Anyways, classic 80's synth pop. |

Yeah, I know it's about the Smiths, but every time I read the title of this song, I always think about Robert and Steven. |

Nope, Radiohead isn't over with. They have done some tours as of late and have been playing all new songs during the shows. New album...eventually...
This song is my favorite on the album. It's frightening. The whole fact that it's a dead man speaking to us, and that he died in such a mysterious and disputed way is unsettling. A haunting song. |

Radiohead – Fitter Happier Lyrics
|
having just read 1984, im not seeing the connection...
to me, this is a contridiction of sorts. you have the "fitter, happier" life the voice is reciting. it is an artifical, fake paradise. in the backround you got those in control who are still "real" (which is the purpose of the Panic Office loop), still waging war and dropping bombs while the citizens they rule over are completely oblivious.
this song really creeped me out when i first heard it. the line "no killing moths or putting boiling water on the ants" really struck a chord with me. it sounds like something an insane person says to themselves after getting treatment for thier mental problems.
that's just me though |

The Cure – Pirate Ships Lyrics

this is actually a cover of a Judy Collins song, which in turn is a cover of a Wendy Waldman song. Robert covered the song solo to contribute to the Elektra Records compliation Rubaiyat, but the band as a whole ended up covering the Doors "Hello, I Love You" instead. I really love the organ and the sea sounds and gull cries on this song. |

I believe i read somewhere that this is about being lost in a cave forever. But i really like Wurby's take on the song, i've never thought about it that way.
This is one of the best Cure songs ever written, and one of my personal favorites. The spinning drums, the smooth bass, and the soft, gloomy keyboards never fail to hypnotize me. |

The Cure – Other Voices Lyrics

I know exactly what you mean tokyo eye. Music has that power to make it seem like a particular song was written for you. Sometimes the sounds and words just go so well with what you're feeling.
This is not my favorite Cure song. But this is my favorite Cure album. It is supposed to be a complete work, and Other Voices was never really meant to be a single (but those record companies, dont'cha know...). Still, It works so well within the confines of Faith that I still love the song. |

Gorillaz – Murdoc Is God Lyrics

yes, its obvious 2-D, Murdoc, Russel, and Noodle arent real, but tons of fans don't care, they still talk about them.
And it isnt only Albarn and dangermouse doing all the music. I believe the bass player is from the Talking Heads (don't remember his name) and I know Simon Tong did alot of guitar work on Demon Days.
My guess is that Muds bullied 2-D into singing it, and got his prison mates from Mexico to play the other parts. |

IfShadosRoteDiaries i really relate to your take on the song.
i've got a thing for this far away girl, so i only ever see her in the pictures shes sent me.
and while i think she likes me too, this distance is killing me. shes so much closer to other guys, and i just can think of the right words to get her.
really, this whole song describes our situation.
And yes, its fun to talk about in a snowy field listening to this song on headphones. |

The Cure – 10:15 Saturday Night Lyrics
|
Yes, the song is pretty self-explanatory. But just for the hell of it, im going to stick this in here-
Robert Smith says of the song "10:15 Saturday Night was written at the table in our kitchen. Watching the tap dripping, feeling utterly morose, drinking my dad's homemade beer...my evening had fallen apart, and i was back at home feeling very sorry for myself!"
This is one of the first Cure songs i ever heard, and the one that clinched my obsession for The Cure. i make it a point to listen to it every saturday night, as close to 10:15 as i can. |

The Cure – So What Lyrics

Its definetly a weird song. I had no idea what he was singing about until i read these lyrics. Who wouldve guessed someone writing a song whose lyrics come from the back of a bag of sugar would go on to write "Pictures of You".
Its weird that part of the song comes from a sack of sugar, while out of nowhere there seem to be personal bits too. weird. |

yes this song was written before they were serious. at least, i think so. Robert and Mary got married in 1988. This song appeared on 17 Seconds in 1980 i believe. I dont think they were dating then, but i could very well be wrong.
Perhaps its about her falling in love with someone, anyone, but Robert. We all know how that feels, eh? |

The Cure – The Lovecats Lyrics
|
According to some very realiabe souces (one of them being Robert himself)-
He wrote the words when he was on LSD.
They filmed the video after having some drinks.
The song is about a suicide pact between two lovers. "into the sea, you and me" means they are going to drown themselves together and "all the years and no one heard" means, obviously, no one will hear from them again since they are dead. "How could we miss someone as dumb as this?" is thier friends talking, wondering why they should even bother missing the two lovers since they were stupid enough to kill themselves. Alright, that last one was a guess, but it seems to fit right??
And yeh, i totally get what you guys mean, its the most danceable song ever |
