Emiliana Torrini – Weird Friendless Kid Lyrics 17 years ago
ever heard a song that seems like someone watched you for about two weeks and then wrote a song about you?
It's really strange to hear this song because it sums up what it is to be a weird friendless kid in a way that is.....erie. Something that can only possibly be written if you know what it's like to walk to your own pace and wonder what other people think of you.

Françoise Hardy – Le Temps De L'Amour Lyrics 17 years ago
Such a romantic song about "the time of love".
I love Francoise Hardy's voice.

The Shangri-las – Remember (Walkin' in the Sand) Lyrics 17 years ago
according to an interview she did recently, this song (along with Train From Kansas City and Out in The Streets) is Mary Weiss' favourite song.
(she was the lead singer of The Shangri La's)

Os Mutantes – Ando Meio Desligado Lyrics 17 years ago
I know what they mean, about having your head in the clouds when you're with someone (or thinking about them) and just loosing all common sense. Not knowing when to say what you rehearsed - I can relate.

My mom used to have this mix cd with this song on it, and I'd dance around to it as a kid and just go nuts, so it's awesome at face value and even better when you understand that "floating" feeling.

The Shangri-las – The Train From Kansas City Lyrics 17 years ago
Along with "Dressed in Black" and "I Can Never Go Home Anymore" its my favourite Shangri-la's song.

Obviously about a girl who is going to meet up with a guy who she was "going with" but does not love him anymore and didn't have the heart to break up with him in a letter, ad she's reassuring her current boyfriend about the meeting.

Great band. And Mary Weiss (the lead singer) is recording a solo!!

The Fiery Furnaces – The Wayward Granddaughter Lyrics 18 years ago
really?
I like that this song is so weird and experimental. I love it, this was actually the song that got me listening to Fiery Furnaces in the first place.

I guess it's all a matter of taste

Sons And Daughters – Red Receiver Lyrics 18 years ago
Love this song so much, one of my favourites by Sons and Daughters. I figure it's about a girl who runs out on her wedding, but I'm not sure why.

Buck 65 – Devil's Eyes Lyrics 18 years ago
^^ Too true. The video is amazing, and it works so well with the song, especially if you know the area where the video was shot. It's kinda sleezy-looking, which fits with the sound of the song.

The Smiths – Pretty Girls Make Graves Lyrics 18 years ago
"Pretty girls make graves" is said in "The Dharma Bums" by Jack Kerouac (p.29), during a chapter that talks about this little orgy that the main character is reluctant to take part of, partly because the girl was someone who persued him a lot the year before.

Oh, and the character is celibate.
It's an awesome book, you should read it. I'm talking about chapter 5.

I *love* the hand gestures they do when performing this. So much fun to see them live

The Raveonettes – Somewhere In Texas Lyrics 18 years ago
New favourite song

I think its about someone who lost a man who was close to them, and then just decides to stay there rather than roam around looking for them.
Or possibly about a person whos "man" likes to go off on little trips and doesn't leave a trace so you cannot really find them for anything, until they come roaring back into your life.

The Raveonettes – Attack of the Ghost Riders Lyrics 18 years ago
Ghost rider is a marvel superhero, he used to be a daredevil rider, but he turns into this big hellblazing bad dude. In the video, they have a character who is kind of like the "ghost rider" (he dies and then comes back as the ghost rider and then he and the girl go off).
Maybe it relates to that? The video might at least.

The Pipettes – Your Kisses Are Wasted on Me Lyrics 18 years ago
I think it's about a girl who is (trying) to break up with a guy, but he doesn't want to so he's trying in vain to get her back.
I love The Pipettes. Best un-guilty pleasure ever.

The Raveonettes – The Heavens Lyrics 18 years ago
I'm fairly sure it's this song that Sune Rose Wagner wrote as kind of a tribute/homage to/in memory of Elvis Presley.
One of those songs that makes you get a lump in your throat.

Buddy Holly – Rave On Lyrics 18 years ago
I love this song. It was the first I heard of him, and I love it to no freakin' end.

Little quip: the band "The Raveonettes" got their name from this song, because the lead singer loves Buddy Holly so much. --they also do a pretty good cover of "Everyday"

LCD Soundsystem – Losing My Edge Lyrics 18 years ago
I think it's about an "ageing hipster" type of person. Someone who was there in the beginning of those underground bands in the 60's and 70's, and now he's "losing his edge" to all of the young kids who know all about these bands, trying to be cool.
And he's kind of defending himself, telling that even though he's older, he's still cool because he was there in the beginning and he still knows all of this.

It's kind of a little message to all those "indie kids" who consider themselves to be super cool because they think they're the only ones who know about all these bands, and who pick stuff up because it's "cool".

The Dears – Lost In The Plot Lyrics 18 years ago
The first time I heard this song, I actually thought Murray was Morrissey, since their voices sound so alike.
I think the person has just gone through something with someone close to him (like a breakup, possibly), and he feels like it happens the same way as every other time. He's difficult, and has just given up or something, because "it's the same old plot to these things". It just keeps happening the same way, and he just doesn't want this to be messed up.

Johnny Cash – A Satisfied Mind Lyrics 19 years ago
I love this song, which is strange 'cause I usually don't really like Johhny Cash. It is totally true. When you have money, you think of all that you can do with it, and you think you'll be satisified. But in the end, when you do have money, you never actually do the things you say you will. Those people with all the money in the world could do so much, but they're worried about other things, and in the end no one is ever satisfied.

Shivaree – Goodnight Moon Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree with wildberry. I could be completely wrong, but it reminds me of and old hitchcock-type film, where the girl is all alone in her apartment, and someone is following her, but she doesn't know who, so she's walking around wide-eyed, and cautious hoping that the light of the moon might protect her.

this song is so long, and usually a song that's more than 4 minutes long annoys me, but I like it. the first song I heard from the Mars Volta.
