"The pause that refreshes" is an old Coke slogan.

I agree that there is a reference to the cocaine in CocaCola, but I don't think that's what the whole song is about. You could hardly call the reformers of the temperance movement "party girls." I think it's just to demonstrate the lengths that corporations wilil go to make a profit.

Modest Mouse – 3rd Planet Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song could be about the miracle of life.
"And that's how the world began/And that's how the world will end"
He has sex with some girl ("outside, naked") and she gets pregnant. Then the child somehow dies before being born. Life begins, and then ends.
He feels guilty for "fucking her over."

Bright Eyes – At the Bottom of Everything Lyrics 19 years ago
I find the line, "I'm happy just because/I found out I am really no one." really comforting. You don't need to be the best, or the greatest. It may seem like a lot is expected of you, but you are really just a drop in the ocean. You're life in unimportant: enjoy it.

I liked jvenrick's point that talking in every telephone could be about getting caught up with stupid goals. That part confused. But I disgree with you that the preacher line is a metaphor. It think it's really just about his dislike of religous figures promising hell.

Something Corporate – Me And The Moon Lyrics 19 years ago
She is so fed up with her suburban life and her husband (17 years nd all that he gave was a daughter) that she goes crazy, and kills him. You know that she's lost it because she's "lucid and departed" and she washes her hands and fixes the dinner like nothing happened.

The Smiths – Ask Lyrics 19 years ago
About "then it's the bomb," my interpretation was that if they don't have love, the only thing bringing them together is violence, and that would be a horrible thing.
