James Taylor – You Can Close Your Eyes Lyrics
| 3 years ago
|
I know it is a lullaby, but for me it has a more specific meaning. About two years ago, it was time for my old dog to move on. She was 17 and lived a full and happy like. Her kidneys quit but she woudn't, couldn't. I think she felt responsible for me.
When it was time, I sat on the floor in our vet's office with Joei on my lap and I sang this song to myself as she slipped away.
The love of an old dog leaves a hole in you that can't be filled. It becomes part of you. Anyway, for me this lullaby is for my Joei |

While this may be solely my personal interpretation, this song speaks to me of aging. My aging. My life, my family. |

@[jkdude:12757] They did. But in leaving couldnt and wouldnt abandon the few people that lived there for generations that wanted to remain a part of their homeland. Only six counties are still part of what THOSE people call their homeland. The entire rest of the island is independent, as they wish to be. |

Cutting Crew – (I Just) Died in Your Arms Lyrics

The problem of being in your 20's during the 80's is that some of your poignant moments are set to some pretty silly songs...no matter how much I enjoy them.
No guilty pleasure, just pleasure~ |

@[epsilon343:5541] All of us over a certain age carry the "Vaccination Scar" on the upper arm. It is a bit bigger than a quarter. It was done in school when we were wee lads and lasses. |

The Tragically Hip – Now For Plan A Lyrics
| 9 years ago
|
A new priority, THE new priority. All bets are off, put the chickens in barn, lock the gate, the only plan from now on is THE plan. All current plans are cancelled immediately.
There is only "Plan A", this plan. Your plan. Getting you through this, no matter how feeble my efforts may be to that end, the only plan is you. Your health, getting you - getting us - through this somehow.
Plan "A". Helping your wife survive cancer. Nothing else matters. |

Sorry Mischa3158, the "Whitehouse" referred to was Mary Whitehouse. She was a constant moral critic in Britain and was constantly calling for the banning of tv shows, movies and music. She was the force behind NVALA, a rating system somewhat similar to the MPAA but much more moralistic and polemic.
She managed to get Alice Cooper banned from TOTP, went after the producers of Dr. Who etc. etc...
Mary Whitehouse. Not THE Whitehouse. |

The Who – A Man in a Purple Dress Lyrics

The Cassock of the Anglican and Catholic (Orthodox as well?) could easily be described as a "purple dress".
The hypocrisy of the Anglican Church that Pete grew up under is palpable in England. Not that the Catholics or any other politically run religion is any better. |

Paul Gross – 32 Down on the Robert Mackenzie Lyrics
| 9 years ago
|
This was written by Paul Gross for the TV show "Due South". They had originally wanted to use Gordon Lighfoot's classic "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". Lightfoot agreed on the condition that the families of the men lost agreed as well. Paul Gross decided against it "bothering" the families for the sake of a television show and this song was written. |

Tom Waits – Hope I Don't Fall in Love with You Lyrics

Trying to get up the courage to cross the room and introduce yourself to that woman across the room...and never doing it. This is a song about the fantastical love affair that exists in the mind of the "tomcat" prior to - or instead of - strolling across the bar to say "hello" |

I agree with you. Great things are not always meant to last. Besides missing all the new Page/Robertson music that we are missing, I feel for them both. Perhaps there is a future where they can reconcile regardless of whether that means more music from them as a pair. |
