Agree with earlier post, perhaps the most beautiful PT song...So empty sounding, yet full of sadness. Strange how something so sad can be so beautiful, but Steven Wilson makes it so, one of the genius' of our time... |

Actually, h stated at the convention, that he wrote the song as a tribute to the fans, hence the first verse...But overall, the song seems to be mostly about what it is like to be in a traveling band, makes sense... |

I think It's basically a tale of "the grass is always greener..." Wherever the character is, he wished he were somewhere else, a place opposite of where he is now, i.e., when he is stuck in the dessert, he wishes to see rain and clouds, but then when he is at a muddy pitch in Newcastle, where it rains constantly, and Heaven is a place where the sun shines, he wishes he were in the sun and sand, and then is thrown back into the desert, where he stays... |

Such a beautiful song, one of the most of all time I say...plus, it was my mother and father's wedding song, that must've been a tear-jerker, or at least gotten a strange reaction, considering they got married in '83 and Genesis were already well into their "lame" stage... |
